- Since it has not been recorded in any way as of yet, I will record it.
Moon has different dialogue for greetings etc when she has less neurons, but strangely enough she can describe pearls perfectly well! It was a myth for some time that you needed at least 7 to get any lore pearl dialogue, but as it would turn out you only need 1 neuron total. That's it. Moon says exactly the same things as if she had 5 or more.
If you eat all 5 neurons however, you're out of luck. Regular neurons will not revive moon, and she obviously can't read any pearls after they're all gone. Strangely enough though, she still moves her arm to pet you after death. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It really is testament to Moon's gentle nature that even despite consuming a fifth of her brain, she still ultimately sees justification in your actions (seeking food) and doesn't hold it against you as severely as she probably should.
Tbh if I had glowing orbs around me that kept me alive and my cat tried to eat one and hurt me, I would probably forgive it.
I took a neuron from moon to get the achievement

I felt so bad though! Ate one neuron because I didn't know any better and when I saw the achievement I was like 'whut?'. Realised the effect on her, and now I'm determined to give some neurons to her from five pebbles... if i can find him that is.

I got stolen enlightenment every time i tested except for one, where extra neurons somehow appeared in moons room

Eh, she probably just forgot.
It gets worse when she can barely string a sentence together and then as soon as you pass the pearl she become fully articulate in speech.
Yeah, honestly they should have made it so her ability to read pearls wavers when she has less than 4 neuron flies, with it getting worse the less she has, up until where she can't even read them if she only has one.
it’s probably like a system that only requires at least one neuron as, when reading, it might just be playing a prerecorded message based on the pearl.
Dialog construction is not one of the strong points Rain World has. Just compare this dialog to the dialogs you have in Hades. Each game has its own strengths and weaknesses :D

It’s kind of ironic. Moon can easily kill herself yet decides to keep living while 5 pebbles craves death yet can’t. Even the reason for 5 pebbles’ rot is due to both his desire for death and moon’s desire to live.

If I'm correct, iterators actually created that way that they can't kill themself. And there is even a pearl that contains information about how an iterator can reprogram themself to be able to commit sudoku. Moon will read this to you
@@sunofabeach9424 ya 5pebbles tried to do that by manually creating a creature to destroy his tabboos but it required a lot of water and moon made it so he took in a 5th of his water supply so she wouldn’t die from being starved of water. Due to being starved of water so long she went into disrepair leaving herself in a practically dementia ridden state while 5pebbles lost control due to the sudden water shortage and now has a form of rot growing through a large chunk of his body.

A cruel but potentially justifiable decision to shackle what is essentially a bank of enormous and very much sapient artificial intelligences to the confines of the incomprehensibly large bioelectronic computer complexes, bristling with sensors and communication gear, that their entire beings are imprisoned in, while they are fully aware of the nature of seemingly pointless task forced upon them, the extinction of their creators and maintenance staff, and the inevitable and inescapable fact that they, like all constructs, are innately ephemeral and they are forced to wait while the slow but steady rigours of time and the world around them corrode and rot them into non-functionality. Tragic, it reminds me a little of I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream.

When I first met Moon, I grabbed one of her neurons and she seemed to writhe in pain so I let it go... God, I felt horrible.

When I first met moon, I stood around for a bit and realized i could eat the "weird white flies" so I proceeded to eat every single one. I thought she was scripted to die upon meeting here and did the same thing as gourmand.
Its amazing how much detail they put into little things most people will never ever see. Hell, moon herself was optional to begin with
You can go directly from outskirts to drainage to underground and skip the entire rest of the game if you find the way there, even pebbles is optional
Moon is completely optional, but you have to pick either Pebbles or the Echoes unless you're hunter who absolutely must meet the echoes. This is assuming you dont just flash bang the guardians and run because I'm assuming that's not intended.

@@frogmouth2 there's a speedrun technique that prevents the guardian from loading in iirc, but if you wanna do it without any glitches and tricks then yeah

they should make it so at low Neuron levels, instead of reading pearls, she will throw the pearl at the player, like how scavs throw debris at you.

I played rainworld the first time back in 1.0. When I got to pebbles, I made sure to carry 2 neurons with me down the wall, down to the industrial complex, and all the way back to moon. Then I decided I needed to go all the way back to pebbles, grab 2 more neurons, and take them backwards through the leg and the citadel to bring them back to her just to see if she said anything more. That is my single proudest gaming achievement, and I must always bring her at least 3 neurons every new game.

talking about that, I'm quite curious about Pebble's neurons, are those finite like Moon's? or would they just keep spawning? and if those happen to be finite, would he stop working if you take them all?

Not sure if they're infinite or not, but I don't think anything happens if you do eat them all if they aren't.

No neuron flies, no consciousness. Then the slag in her pipelines builds up again and she would need more slag keys after having her flies restored.

Fun fact: if you give her enough colored pearls (like 3-5-ish) she begins to call you "little archeologist" which i kinda find cute. speaking of it, there was one time where she was reading a pearl and she had a line with "little creature" i didint rly pay atyention but i was jumping around before she told me to stop and then when she re-said her dialogue the line changed to "little archeologist", just a fun lil tid bit. after i got The gold pearl (the 7th pearl) well... see it for yourself, i'm trying to get all colored pearls in her shelter and i already got 7 and currently planning to get the 8th in shaded aswell as a neuron

@@ikcikor3670 it's a bug where if you bring pebble's neuron to moon without meeting her first, the game will think you stole that neuron from moon and it will trigger the 'stolen enlightment' achivement.
When I first saw moon, I thought she was injured, and the big pole lookin thing and neuron flies were hurting her/keeping her captive, and after seeing videos of her talking, thought I needed to “save her”(eat her brains) to get her to talk to me

I literally cannot watch any further. Just seeing the extent of what the player could do to Moon should they choose to be cruel is just... horrible.
Don't worry, she is just a blue calculator with a few hardcoded dialogues.
Also, most people take her neurons out of curiosity, hunger, or just straight up confusion. Not cruelty.

@@turtletoad7725 I ate some neurons because my monkey brain somehow failed to comprehend that I was killing her. It's great news to hear that I can make it up to her by repairing the damage I dealt.
@@turtletoad7725 Surprisingly on my first playthrough I saw that she was afraid when I got too close to her, and that when I grabbed a neuron that she was shaking her head. My thoughts were to listen to her like you listen to the scavs when they tell you to stop or pass at their tolls. I later then ate about 50 neurons at 5 pebbles because I was wondering where I could find food.

When I first met moon, I ate all the neurons but then saw what happened to her and only ate one. After, I saw the frame from when you sleep, and immediately went on a quest to get more neurons to apologize because I thought you had to eat a neuron.
I just ate 4 because I the rain was coming and I had no food. Im gonna go steal neurons from 5 pebbles now.

Let it be known that you can get the stolen enlightenment achievement without causing her grief by giving her a neuron fly the first time you meet her in a run.
This is very helpful to me (I’m a switch player so achievements aren’t as big a thing) but I just really don’t want to hurt moon, but at the same time shaded is a wretched place ;-;

Also, not sure if you know this already since this video is 2 years old but, you're able to carry 3 neurons at a time. Neurons can be stored in your stomach.
Yeah, this was something added in the update that came after the video. I've wondered if the dialogue for monk would be different too, but never really got around to testing it.

Thanks for posting this. I never really bothered going to moon myself and no one posted this before.
I juggled the neurons too much so she got mad and didn't speak whit me, i was just trying to drop a lore pearl but the damn neurons just constantly went to my face for whatever reason, then i tried to give her some jellyfish and she just didn't care even tho i kinda zapped myself at the same time lmao. Also spamming jump makes her not speak for some reason and interrupts, so if you keep doing that after giving something like a pearl you'll get a funny progressive response, and maybe she'll get mad with that as well.
She straight up tells you to sit still so she can focus, she's got like 5 neurons it's probably a little hard to process many things at once

A bit late - d'ya think there might be dialogue for giving her neurons before meeting Pebbles? (Would be a pain in the butt to go in and out of Pebbles twice, though...) I don't think it'd have anything special for 7 or more total neurons, but I could potentially see 6 giving some dialogue.
You can't talk to her before meeting Pebbles, since Pebbles gives you the mark of communication

My first play through, and this is the first NPC I find not including scavs... She said nothing and did nothing, still don't know how to get the communication thing to understand her, so I've just been gifting her pearls and she stares blankly at me.
Go to industrial complex, then up to chimney canopy, up the wall into the FP supercomplex to understand her!

the pearl dialogue isn't unique btw, it's just that grey pearls can have varying contents, all of those being normally accessible with any number of neurons (above 0, obviously)

Crazy how Videocult got me so emotionally attached to what is technically a bunch of pixels and code. Like, not just the usual "oh no, I don't want a bad thing to happen to that character" but on a deep, personal level

I gave moon a green pearl on my play through with a friend and I was annoyed over how it didn’t accept my peace offering and so I ate two of those firefly things in front of her and she fell over.

@@redwolves234 when you go into Five Pebbles' chamber, he will give you the mark. Then he will talk to you, and you can go find Big Sister Moon.

For some reason when I first encountered moon, the little yellow thing couldn't give the hexagonal projection like it usually would, because the white neurons kept getting in the way. So I ate 3. The yellow worm flashed an "X" but more neurons kept blocking the message so i just continued to dine until there were only two left. Now they both hate me ☠️

I actually died from hunger in my slightly spoiled first playthrough, i didn't want to eat moon's brain and i didn't know i could eat jelly fish, so i just died and reset my run to do a second run with an actual map and a shortcut this time.

imo if she has less than 4 neurons she should refuse to read any pearls, kinda odd how she goes from a pitiful barely functioning creature to completely fine
