I like Gourmand's even-handedness with Survivor and Monk. Yes, Monk got to the blue fruit first so it's only fair he gets to have it, but Survivor still receives a batfly so he gets food too. True to his nature, Gourmand doesn't like to see the kids go hungry.

I absolutely love the characterization in this! Gourmand is shown to be kind and bighearted, but when he percieves a threat to his family, he does not respond kindly. Notably, it's only after Hunter scratches Monk that he decides to go full BEAST mode. Hunter is aggressive and kinda ruthless, but he's not bloodthirsty, as shown when he has Nightcat (?) at his mercy, but spares him because he's already defeated. The only reason he fights Gourmand to a standstill is because the bigger slugcat made it clear to Hunter that he wouldn't let him leave without a fight. All in all, awesome animation! :3
It's also nice to see how monk was treated more kindly by others around him, while survivor was judged fairly, but kind of harshly, it really represents their campaigns quite well.
this is so accurate in terms of the time each campaign takes place! monk and survivor being pups while hunter's campaign was taking place right before gourmand's. This actually gave me an idea of a headcanon that after gourmand came back, they immediately migrated because the conditions of the area was becoming too dangerous thanks to pebbles. of course, in the process of migrating, survivor and monk were lost.
Right after this sausage colored weirdo with cancer on it’s back passed by, two Nitro boosted lizards show up the next day. With their best combatant recently injured, they all had to cram themselves hidden in the tree waiting for the duo of monstrosities zooming around outside to leave.
i only realized after watching for a second time that at 0:55 the black slugcat is trying to put a spear on its back, and then gets angry when it sees hunter walk by doing it effortlessly. at first i thought it was just scratching its back lol

I love how much this explains. Hunter can place spears on his back because he doesn’t know how else he can rid himself of the cancer. Gourmand caused the scar on hunter’s eye with a piece of shrapnel. I honestly feel like nobody did anything wrong, though, as hunter is so angry because he has his own struggles to go through.
I'd like to imagine it would go like 2 random stray cats that saw each other in the distance: Hunter stumbles across the tribe; a random slugcat stares at him, he stares back. This goes on for a good few seconds before the other slugcat wawas, Hunter stands there for a few seconds before walking around the tribe and they both forget about it in a few seconds.
A lot of factors could have affected the incoming fight: that monk wouldn’t be that curious, that survivor wouldn’t be that glutinous, that he would’ve simply left without scratching monk, etc etc.
This was incredible! I feel kinda bad for Hunter though, I mean theyre just trying to get their job done in the last moments of life they've got left, but I don't fault the Gourmand for protecting the slugcat colony. If anything it's Survivor and Monk's fault for messing with the neuron lol but they're just pups in this so they probably don't know better
I feel like it’s mostly survivor this would t have happened if survivor hadn’t innocently try to eat the neuron . And a little bit of monks fault for being too curious
I get both sides aren’t in the wrong and that hunter is dieing but did he have to injure monk for simply trying to peacefully give back the neutron like that felt rude
In the context of the video, Hunter is a lone stranger "just passing through town" on a life saving mission, and Gourmand is the well meaning sheriff who just wants to protect his town. There's a lower case tragedy in all of it. Two beings at cross purposes who have no reason to fight, but are compelled by pride and duty.
Wow. WOW. That was AMAZING!!!!! I love the realistic implementation of game mechanics. Hunter carrying two spears, the rot, Gormound’s ability to survive spear hits, on and on. Also the sounds of survivor eating the batfly were hysterical. Seeing the day counter tick down at the end was ominous and sad, and the fight was EPIC. The facial expressions were simple yet super expressive, and often hilarious. Your framing, emphasis, timing- the technical details were spot on. Well done. Super well done!!!

I remember showing this to my friends when I just found out about rain world, and my friends knew nothing about it. Now, I have 2 slugcat plushies and entire group chats filled with rain world gifs.
i liked the detail when the hunter scratched the monk he has red blood on his hand, but when the shrapnel wounded the hunter, his blood is already black (the blood darkens and becomes thick if the blood is infected with a serious infection, as it fills with bacteria) this is the best animation in rain world I can't even imagine how much time and effort was spent on it
Same! I think the last time that happened for me was the Lackadaisy pilot, which, considering this was all storyboarded and animated by one person, is insanely impressive.
[i love how Hunter seems to be wanting to pass through only to feel provoked after the cancer bubble is made contact with. they're practically dying, but seemingly engrossed in trying to find the android as fast as they can before the deadline. none of the other slugs seem to know that and simply see them as a threat.]
Oh my god that was amazing! I can't imagine how long this has taken you to animate, so kudos for that alone - but then the storyline of the fight is itself also a masterpiece (not to mention the ending screen with HLL that would explain SO MUCH). The way the stakes were consistently raised and more and more of Gourmand's abilities came into play was outstanding, ditto the way Hunter's neuron shifts to showing the cycle countdown after her injury. The rot cyst being both a sheath for the spear and also having a mind of its own, alarming Hunter of incoming projectiles is also excellent. Just overall a 10/10.

Also I only now noticed the meticulous math re: cycle count and karma level... wonder if Hunter did so good at the fight because they'd died to it several times already, hence Karma 0. (and man, getting the neuron to moon on cycle 0 is pretty damn bitter.)

I always feel kinda bad for hunter, and I feel even more empathy now. Rejected by his own tribe, and left to die with no alternate solutions to the sickness. Tragic..
I love how you portray the slugs different personalities. The way monk is caring but pushable, gourmand it protective, survivor is nonchalant and juvenile. I really like the part at 3:29 where all of the slugs have slightly different reactions to being told to attack, It reminds me of in-game slugpups not liking a certain food so they give it to their sibling. I also love the ultrakill parries that is such a nice touch

i dont know If anyone has said this, but after watching this video three times... there is one very specific Voice line i can imagine at 3:25 one that is rather infamous,i think. *"FETCH ME THEIR SOULS!"*
This is wonderful! Gourmand and Hunter are the closest scugs in the timeline besides Surv and Monk, so this battle could be canon-compliant. It's actually handled great: Hunter's in a hurry and isn't unnecessarily violent, and only throws a spear at Survivor (which was probably a warning shot) and scratches Monk as a warning to 'not get in my way'. However Gourmand as the slugcats' leader interprets all this as a threat (rightfully so). I like how Gourmand can survive multiple spear hits (and all his moves are used too, amazing) and Hunter's rot pustule acting as both spear storage and a danger sensor is a very interesting idea. I like how Hunter's scar is also caused by shrapnel, and his expression of "WHAT THE FU-" when Gourmand did his stompy move as well as Gourmand's realization that Hunter can throw 2 spears one after the other was cool. Oh and baby Survivor and Monk are the cutest.

I kinda wish he was half as capable in-game - 15% chance to block a spear in a game where a spear insta-kills you sucks balls. The only thing worth mentioning from his fat shield is never dying to bites with some exceptions.
This was incredible!!! I love the implication that Gourmand is where Hunter got their eye scar from. The ending with Hunter in the dark, staring at the neuron and seeing, essentially, their personal end-of-life timer count down a cycle, was absolutely chilling. The use of SFX from the game was beautifully done, as well as the music! I loved seeing the tribe of Slugcats worrying over Gourmand as well, you can tell they all respect/care for them very much even with sparse interactions. All around a fantastic animation, and 7min to boot??! I almost feel spoiled, lol

@@JostyleAnimations arty and saint are both similar in that they both suffer more than any other scugs, but I find it interesting how they both deal with they're situations Arty has a fleeting but small chance at redemption but her rage makes her only want revenge Saint has no cure or redemption no being in rain world can help him and yet he stays positive helping anyone he can, offering peace and release to those who can offer him nothing in return It's because of how well they mirror eachother they became my favorites ♥️
Well; permadeath is near impossible in the Rainworld, so the only way to get out of the gene pool would be to get "softlocked". This could mean the creatures of Rainworld have evolved to pause ageing at a certain point, remaining not only useful to the tribe's survival but also fertile at the cost of something not significant enough to out-cost the benefits. If not; then The Ancients likely did some gene-manipulating to ensure they don't age and hence have to be maintained as harshly*, so for all we know Spearmaster is out there tryna be friends with the grass blob. *Albeit ancient technology is less swiss watch and more p2000 Gott; it works, but ~125 Jagdpanzer 38s would work better.
One thing I believe we've neglected to talk about is Nightcat here. Since they were only playable in arena mode it makes sense to make them one of the most aggressive ones here. Not only that it's like their the mom of the group, being the first ready to take action against hunter for threatening their pups.
This shit is canon. Also, i noticed how you used ultrakill parry sound, that's cool. Would be funny hearing minos prime phrase "DIE" during gourmand's ground slam :')

I feel as if this could work canonically since hunters journey happends just right before gourmands (seen by the hunter long legs youll see if you have previously died in the spot as hunter) and gourmands ending is what makes survivor and monk to get separated from their family so survivor and monk definetly met gourmand and hunter could have passed by outer expanse on his way to moon

[i love how Hunter seems to be wanting to pass through only to feel provoked after the cancer bubble is made contact with. they're practically dying, but seemingly engrossed in trying to find the android as fast as they can before the deadline. none of the other slugs seem to know that and simply see them as a threat.]
Oh my god that was amazing! I can't imagine how long this has taken you to animate, so kudos for that alone - but then the storyline of the fight is itself also a masterpiece (not to mention the ending screen with HLL that would explain SO MUCH). The way the stakes were consistently raised and more and more of Gourmand's abilities came into play was outstanding, ditto the way Hunter's neuron shifts to showing the cycle countdown after her injury. The rot cyst being both a sheath for the spear and also having a mind of its own, alarming Hunter of incoming projectiles is also excellent. Just overall a 10/10.

@@JostyleAnimationsalso one more detail that I don't know if it was intentional, but: all the OE slugcats are shown to have red blood (Monk, Gourmand), but then Hunter's blood is black, just another hint at their messed-up health.
Also I only now noticed the meticulous math re: cycle count and karma level... wonder if Hunter did so good at the fight because they'd died to it several times already, hence Karma 0.
(and man, getting the neuron to moon on cycle 0 is pretty damn bitter.)
Omg I love your depiction of the slug cats especially hunter being so serious and well disciplined I really think you could make a series with this (would personally love a interaction between artificer and your hunter too grumpy scugs in one room ) p.s THIS WAS AMAZING WORTH THE WAIT !!!!!! I love how you portray the slugs different personalities. The way monk is caring but pushable, gourmand it protective, survivor is nonchalant and juvenile. I really like the part at 3:29 where all of the slugs have slightly different reactions to being told to attack, It reminds me of in-game slugpups not liking a certain food so they give it to their sibling.
I also love the ultrakill parries that is such a nice touch

i love the idea that the Hunter got outcasted because of his impatient nature, and also that that same out-casting got them their scar.
(This also got me an idea for when the survivor and monk return to their original home, and, through time, eventually the rivulet and saint are born from that same tree, and have some sort of backstory as to how rivulet got their pearl, and how saint... uh, became saint-

This is wonderful! Gourmand and Hunter are the closest scugs in the timeline besides Surv and Monk, so this battle could be canon-compliant. It's actually handled great: Hunter's in a hurry and isn't unnecessarily violent, and only throws a spear at Survivor (which was probably a warning shot) and scratches Monk as a warning to 'not get in my way'. However Gourmand as the slugcats' leader interprets all this as a threat (rightfully so).
I like how Gourmand can survive multiple spear hits (and all his moves are used too, amazing) and Hunter's rot pustule acting as both spear storage and a danger sensor is a very interesting idea. I like how Hunter's scar is also caused by shrapnel, and his expression of "WHAT THE FU-" when Gourmand did his stompy move as well as Gourmand's realization that Hunter can throw 2 spears one after the other was cool. Oh and baby Survivor and Monk are the cutest.
Survivor and Monk used to be extremely far apart in the timeline, before DP. Good thing they were brought a little closer together lol

I kinda wish he was half as capable in-game - 15% chance to block a spear in a game where a spear insta-kills you sucks balls. The only thing worth mentioning from his fat shield is never dying to bites with some exceptions.
This was incredible!!! I love the implication that Gourmand is where Hunter got their eye scar from. The ending with Hunter in the dark, staring at the neuron and seeing, essentially, their personal end-of-life timer count down a cycle, was absolutely chilling.
The use of SFX from the game was beautifully done, as well as the music! I loved seeing the tribe of Slugcats worrying over Gourmand as well, you can tell they all respect/care for them very much even with sparse interactions. All around a fantastic animation, and 7min to boot??! I almost feel spoiled, lol

Saint has no cure or redemption no being in rain world can help him and yet he stays positive helping anyone he can, offering peace and release to those who can offer him nothing in return

Well; permadeath is near impossible in the Rainworld, so the only way to get out of the gene pool would be to get "softlocked". This could mean the creatures of Rainworld have evolved to pause ageing at a certain point, remaining not only useful to the tribe's survival but also fertile at the cost of something not significant enough to out-cost the benefits.
If not; then The Ancients likely did some gene-manipulating to ensure they don't age and hence have to be maintained as harshly*, so for all we know Spearmaster is out there tryna be friends with the grass blob.
*Albeit ancient technology is less swiss watch and more p2000 Gott; it works, but ~125 Jagdpanzer 38s would work better.

One thing I believe we've neglected to talk about is Nightcat here. Since they were only playable in arena mode it makes sense to make them one of the most aggressive ones here. Not only that it's like their the mom of the group, being the first ready to take action against hunter for threatening their pups.

Also, i noticed how you used ultrakill parry sound, that's cool. Would be funny hearing minos prime phrase "DIE" during gourmand's ground slam :')

I feel as if this could work canonically since hunters journey happends just right before gourmands (seen by the hunter long legs youll see if you have previously died in the spot as hunter) and gourmands ending is what makes survivor and monk to get separated from their family so survivor and monk definetly met gourmand and hunter could have passed by outer expanse on his way to moon
