My ultimate dream controller would definitely add the swappable thumbsticks with different hights (btw you can buy these for the regular xbox controller no need there for the expensive one) and the A, B, Y, X buttons with small e-ink displays so you can swap them in the software for the PlayStation shapes or the Nintendo layout. Would be awesome for emulation.
The e-ink part sounds very complicated to implement, but you gave me a new dream to get sad about as it will probably never happen. I would just add great softwware with remapping and deadzone and sensivity for both sticks and dpad, also a pivoted dpad like the genesis/mega drive, triggers that can be set as longer analog or short/instant digital and gyro as some pads omit those, also lastly two extra face buttons along with the four right ones (so you can use it for fighting games).
You may want to disable the deadzone if you are using something like Joystick Gremlin to set custom curves. I turn off deadzones where I can because of this. I am on PC, and I use the XBOX Elite 2 controller, as well as a VKB flight stick and Virpil throttle. All three use custom curve maps for any of the analog axis.
Great video. I ordered one of these today and I'm super excited! I wanted an awesome wired analog controller that also had a good D-pad for retro beatemups and fighters. You covered every one of my concerns.

Bought a year ago. Used sporadically for half a year. Pros: customizable button mapping and additional profiles, two rear buttons, microphone mute and profile buttons, the ability to disable dead zone, which improves responsiveness in games where dead zones cannot be adjusted. Cons: When connected to Xbox, analog sticks often need calibration (it has been this way from the beginning), drift in the right stick has started to appear even after calibration, causing involuntary camera movements in games, such as when aiming, which disqualifies this controller and all of its advantages, poor analog stick quality; someone who plays all day would probably wear it out in a month.
I have an important question i hope u can help me with. Can you map multiple buttons to one button. For example if i wanted the RB shoulder button to represent the A and B button respectively is that possible?
Also with the customization on the sticks it's probably like that so if the game does its own settings for dead zones and stick sensitivity like halo mcc

Does Steam recognise this as a regular or elite controller? Ivr previously owned Power A controllers and whilst the Spectra was recognised as an Elite controller (meaning I could remap the share button through Steams own configuration tool) the older Enhanced models were only refinished as standard controllers leaving me with an uneasable button.

I still wish they'd build a wireless Duke controller... Also Linux compatibility is starting to get important, although I'm pretty sure steam can recognize most controllers
I'm going to buy one in December, this is the perfect controller for me
Any fellow weirdos out there that were brought up by conditioning from playing FPSs and Mech games on Saturn and N64 that grew so accustomed to using the right side of the gamepad for movement that you now use the "Lefty" stick layout (right sick for movement, left for aiming)? I am so grateful for the swap sticks ability in most shooters nowadays, and for those that don't have it inbuilt *coughCyberpunkcough* , I'm grateful for the ability to do it from modern console [and PC] settings.
Deadzone is probably used for steering in racing when you need either a delay or hyper sensitive inputs for different forms of racing
Dear Eta Prime, can you give information about what specs a youtube gaming pc should be (both playing and recording gameplay video at the same time) ? do you record from your pc or do you use an external recording device ?
0:21 "that's definitely a lot of x's" lol
Their making a Bluetooth/2.4ghz ver, but apparently it only works on the switch for Bluetooth and the 2.4 for windows.. what’s the point for $70..
Even if you find a wait to connect the Bluetooth mode to let’s say a phone or he steam deck, the triggers will register as a digital input instead of analog
Funny, in 2022 we are excited about going wired lol, I might pick one of these up and give it a shot, just hope my dog doesn’t walk past and pull the cord out on me while I’m deep in battle!
i wonder if the thumbstick/jostick is the same as the bluetooth version which has a magnetic hall effect (sensor) joystick
All well and good, but what about the d-pad if you want to play retro?
Diagonals on these types of controllers on d-pad are usually a nightmare, but very much needed for certain games, especially stuff like Street Fighter and Zelda.
I'm more concerned with stick drift, I did see an interesting looking controller for the switch/pc using hall effect sticks. I dont know about longevity or if it will get licensed to an xbox 3rd party manufacturer but I still have hope
I've had the 8bitdo sn30 pro+ controller for a few years now and it's still working great.
@@jamiem2494 true mine moves on his own and have to plug and unplug It from my console to fix It,its even worse than Stick drift, don't know if only mine Is faulty or are all like this ...
8Bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller is also available for preorder and it will use hall effect sticks!
It's the same as this, but wireless. It works with Switch and PC, but I'm not sure about other platforms.
I reckon if you plug in their wireless dongle it might work with Xbox and Play Station, maybe someone with older 8bitdo controller might confirm or deny it...
@@zlac it's only for switch and maybe PC...
@@tempestzz5682 Yess and android
Mine arrives today. Bought the off pink one. ☮️
Got this controller. I want to use the back buttons, but everytime i assign the buttons, the app tells me to press the 8bitdo button, i do, but it does nothing, and the assigned back buttons don't stay assigned
A wireless version of this controller would be perfect for playing cod mobile given the regular sn30 pro + controllers don't work with that game
ETA maybe you can test this. I've speculated the 'Disable Deadzone' exists because with certain emulators, such as the dolphin emulator, can have their 'deadzone' settings negated by other third party software. I experienced this when using the program 'Xpadder' with my (now dead) xbox 360 controller. both sticks had terrible drift which i compensated for in the dolphin emulator settings, they returned after I accidently left xpadder running which use when steam presets don't cut it.
Can you explain it to me? Never heard of that!
A long term update would bet great if possible!
I am watching be ause of the community post about the Bluetooth version with Hal Joysticks.
It intruiges me, but I have the GamePass controller from them nd it's giving crazy issues, customer service was less than useful by basically telling me bad luck.
Can you please test the jack/DAC audio quality ? Im tempting getting this controller, but i will use it with pretty sensitive headphones
How noisy are the buttons? The Xbox series dpad nub thing they got going on now is super clicky for instance. Personally not a fan of noisy inputs.
I have the 8BitDo Pro 2 (wireless) and I love it. The 6 axis gyro has been great for Cemu BOTW
Is the triggers sensitive or just clicks?
Mine will be here Saturday..finally a wired controller..no more battery swaps
I cant seem to get mine to work with the pi 4. The led light just keeps blinking and doesn't go solid and no input works. I have Lakka installed running retroarch
I was absolutely waiting for the release of this controller since the very moment they announced it.
I don't know if mine is broken but the sticks move so weirdly and they move on their own,if i unplug and plug It back into the console or the PC they start to work normally again but when i shut down my console and start it back again the sticks go back to being crazy again,i noticed that if i update the firmware they work fine as well but again when i shut down the controller or the console even if i updated the firmware and it worked fine, when i start it back again the sticks go back to being crazy, can you tell me if yours do It too or its just mine that Is defective and needs to be replaced?
@@tempestzz5682 I can't help you with that, since I own no console and use it exclusively on my desktop PC.
I Also only run Linux, and the Xbox generic driver for Linux is community based, so both the analog and the Dpad on the controller works absolutely well.
Funny thing is, I used to use my SN30 from 8bitdo on Windows, and when playing retro fighting games, and pressing up, (to jump) the characters would often jump BACKWARDS. LOL.
(This doesn't happen with Linux)
I think official Microsoft drivers don't like 8bitdo controllers very much.
@@CodexSanoh ok thanks for the response man.
4:20 do you really hold the controller like that ?
Anyone encounters that the LB and RB buttons are super slow and soft, which makes it so tiring to press. Is it just me?
8bitdo is really just gonna make everything but a "Pro 2" style version of the M30, huh.
Yeah that's honestly the pad I have been waiting for, I love the dpad of the M30
@@ThePalerider12 Exactly, that's what I'd call the "Ultimate" controller right there.
whats the diference from the old 8bit do xbox controller?
just the analog stick placements? (wich for me is a downgrade)
Got pastel pink, gorgeous
Is it true thta 8Bitdo use the same magnetic joysticks potentiometers and magnetic triggers that Gulikit make?
Looking at getting this for my XBX, I've sent back my controller that came with my series x 3x till now under warranty. 1st time RB button stopped working. I looked online for a fix found the blow into RB button, that fixed it for 10 secs then it stopped working. Received my 2nd controller, that had loud click when I press RT button. Got my third and now down d pad not working properly. If my fourth has issues I will request a refund from Microsoft. VERY Disappointed with microsofts qc. My old Xbox controller still working perfectly fine after 12 years
Im not saying its bad. But $44 is pretty rough for a wired controller when I could get one from a trusted name like powerA or PDP for half the price.
Exactly my thoughts
These two buttons on the back of the controller can be assigned too on PC? This is additional buttons? I didn't understood.
Bought a year ago. Used sporadically for half a year.
Pros:
customizable button mapping and additional profiles,
two rear buttons, microphone mute and profile buttons,
the ability to disable dead zone, which improves responsiveness in games where dead zones cannot be adjusted.
Cons:
When connected to Xbox, analog sticks often need calibration (it has been this way from the beginning),
drift in the right stick has started to appear even after calibration,
causing involuntary camera movements in games, such as when aiming, which disqualifies this controller and all of its advantages,
poor analog stick quality; someone who plays all day would probably wear it out in a month.
I usually play with keyboard and I only thinking getting it for Emulator games do you think should I get it?
I have an Sn30 Pro+. I like it but wish the analog sticks had more resistance. How are they on this controller?
I ordered the non-Xbox version. What's the difference? I searched a lot but could not find anything
Will it work on windows 7? Lot of ten stuff will. My high end Win10 pute died a horrible death! For now I'm stuck on older 7 puter.
I have an important question i hope u can help me with. Can you map multiple buttons to one button. For example if i wanted the RB shoulder button to represent the A and B button respectively is that possible?
Does customizing the buttons make it work to other consoles like the switch? Thanks.
Also with the customization on the sticks it's probably like that so if the game does its own settings for dead zones and stick sensitivity like halo mcc
Anyone know how to connect this to an xbox360? I have a brook converter but still can’t get it going
I bought a mayflash magic s-pro 2 adapter. You have to use both the wingman and magic-s pro 2 to get it going
My cats are like: Did he say WiReD 73 times? 👁️👁️
i have a question
so is there like 2 version of the ultimate wired for xbox? there is one with the 8bitdo home button and the xbox home button, the 8bitdo one is like 10 USD cheaper than the xbox. is there any real difference between the two of them?
Nice controller overall. Wanted to love it but rumble was all screwed up and unevern on both sides. Sent it back for replacement (Amazon). Same problem. I'll try again in a year after 1st generation are either sold or fixed. Too bad. :(
Can't wait for ETA Prime's new Impulse Trigger EDM track to drop 🤣
does this controller have the turbo buttons feature? I will be using it on PC
We both got FH5 and SSF4: AE on our home screen.
Is it worthed to get this wired version for trigger vibration or get the 2,4 wireless version with no trigger vibration? I usually play racing games
That’s definitely going to be my next controller purchase
Amazing!
Does Steam recognise this as a regular or elite controller? Ivr previously owned Power A controllers and whilst the Spectra was recognised as an Elite controller (meaning I could remap the share button through Steams own configuration tool) the older Enhanced models were only refinished as standard controllers leaving me with an uneasable button.
i've tested it. the share button dosn't work on pc.
Will this be recognized as a Xbox controller on PC?
Like if I get game pass can I use it for Forza?
I got told that game required a Xbox controller as connect a PS4 one did nothing
