Seemed to skim over one of the most unique features of the battery compartment. Not only is the battery pack removable, you can also remove the battery pack and run it off of 2 AA batteries as well, which completely eliminates the worry of "what if they stop making these batteries in the future"
And you can also remove the battery and make it into a wired USB controller if you didn't want to spend money on batteries. Although I think buying rechargeable AA's would be the best choice if the 8bitdo batteries were no longer available.
I picked up the Pro2 as soon as it hit store shelves, and have also been using it's predecessor the SN30Pro+ for a couple years now. Both controllers work and feel great and are so versatile. I love how easy it is to switch them between my Nintendo Switch, PC, and my android phone. I also picked up the USB adapter so I can use these controllers on my PS4, as well, and I would highly recommend it as it will also allow you to use ANY controller with whatever device it's connected to. XBox controller on your PS4, PS4 with your Switch, etc. It's not just for 8BitDo controllers, it's universal and for ~$20, it's well worth the asking price.
I haven't mentioned it yet, but the new intro is amazing! On your way to 1 million subs! Hope to see that happen very soon along with an early morning video! Thank you for your amazing content! Greetings from Costa Rica.
I absolutely love this controller. I have the regular color, but am seriously considering getting one of these. 8bitdo controllers are fantastic. Have two of the snes ones for my analogue supernt, and just bought their fightstick on Prime day.
Bought one wired controller from them for switch & pc, it doesn't work right on switch dropping inputs & holding the latest inputs for like a second or two. Extremely disappointing because I've heard nothing but good stuff from them & don't have as much money to be buying 4 or 5 controllers from them.
@@midnightlycanfox6280 Sorry to hear that, I have several controllers by them and an arcade stick, and I've never had an issue. They're all wireless 3.4 ghz or Bluetooth so I can't speak for their wired controllers. Really sucks you had a bad expierence with them. Is it to late to return it?
@@TheVoidofNothing11 Yeah, way too late unfortunately. It works just fine on the computer for emulating & stuff, so I can still use it at least. I'll keep trying at their products though, I want to get the wireless Genesis controller for my Genesis Mini.
8 bit and Retro Fighters make great controllers . The rubber grips come in handy on the Vita. Especially when the center rubber is gone on the joystick.
Atomic Purple is IMO the best colour Nintendo ever put out. Glacier is my second favourite. I sometimes wish tech would return to that frosted transparent look.
I love that they kept the Super NES layout true to form even when they are adding modern features to the controller. Definitely may pick one up someday.

I just bought my Pro 2 controller a month ago 😆😆 Mind you I bought the SNES looking version so I'm still quite happy but damn that purple one looks bomb. May have to invest in another one 😅
These got good reviews from Lon Seidman as well. I like the purple one too. If the letter buttons could have been used on the semi-transparent controllers that would make it all the more appealing.
I out of the blue added one of these thumbstick protectors to the last order I made from 8bitdo and was really pleasantly surprised. The texture is great and they stay on firmly enough that I don't mind using them on the controllers the kids use. And I was looking for something like this because they tend to control the sticks with their nails digging in and we've lost a couple of analog caps already XD
I use a solid black Pro 2 as my main pad, mostly on PC and Android but occasionally on Switch when friends are over. One thing I've noticed is that the vibration seems super heavy on some games. Battletoads 2020 is a big one, and most Switch games also vibrate harder than they should on account of no HD Rumble, but overall it's the best pad for me.
hi, how was the analog sensitivity on the pro 2? does it feel like ds4 / xbox controller? i mean when we push it a little, does the in game movement moves a little too?
The ultimate software can already update the firmware. But the newer firmwares can be a bit buggy. And you don't need to touch the shoulder buttons when pairing to switch, it's all automatic.
The Pro 2 is such a great control, glad I got one. The only citicism I have is it doesnt have a wake function for Switch, which I dont understand at all.
What I'd like to know with specific controllers like this that have 2 additional mappable buttons underneath the hand grips is how good is this layout for N64 games?? It seems to me having an A,B,C and X,Y,Z configuration like Sega Saturn, Arcade or N64 controllers in a form like this is just... never going to happen. All I want is a PS2 controller with an A and B button, just below and to the left of the pointy square O X. Nice controllers though! If i ever upgrade from wired X-Box 360 controllers, these may be my first choice, thx ETA Prime, always a treat watching your vids. =)
Look at the Brawler64. It's an N64 controller with a similar control scheme to this. I have one, the stick isn't as good as the N64 stick, which bothers me, it's too easy to push around comparatively. But it's a pretty good controller, they're pretty popular.
I have the Gray Edition 8BitDo Pro 2, as well as the officially licensed wired 8BitDo Pro 2 for Xbox and PC. The width across the top makes these controllers so comfortable to hold for people with large hands. The standard Xbox controller is fine, but I don't like the fact that it significantly narrows at the top. As for color... The purple 8BitDo Pro 2 looks very nice no doubt, but there's just something about the Gray Edition that hits right for me.
You should perform the "contra test" for the DPAD. 8BitDo have notoriously bad DPADs as when you play 4-way games it's super easy to hit diagonals. I wonder if they fixed this for this controller? contra test is load up Contra NES. Hold down on the DPAD and roll your thumb left and right. If your character stays crouching the DPAD is excellent and doesn't hit diagonals, meaning when you hold down it doesn't press LEFT or RIGHT at the same time.
I want to see more comparative reviews of controllers. There's so much crap in the market that I have trouble finding relevant and reliable information.
The Pro 2 (black) is currently my go to controller for PC gaming because I hate xbx controllers. Next to an actual PS4 controller it's hands down the best controller I could ask for. I just wish it could be identified as a PS controller for games that recognize the difference in buttons because I still to the day have trouble remembering the layout. (and looking at the controller doesn't help because it has the nintendo layout, if I could see it _at all_ because it's all black)
I'm the same way! I hate the position of xbox buttons. I grew up entirely with nintendo and playstation so I can never get used to xbox buttons. What I do for certain games is find playstation button icon mods. The reason is because having B as a confirm button doesn't sit right with me. Since this feels like a playstation controller, it makes perfect sense when I see playstation button icons on-screen. Some games are nice enough to include in-game playstation or switch button icons (Kingdom hearts 1.5 + 2.5, Spelunky 2, Don't Starve Together).
Thinking of switching over to these controllers. Overall, I feel the value especially as I get into playing some of the older stuff I forgot about. Let's be honest, as a man with man sized hands, the Xbox controller scheme has ALWAYS felt correct to me. Shifting to a Playstation style joystick config is hard. I still find myself wanting that original Xbox controller stick layout and handfill. If that's even a word. BUT I can remember the days when I adored my ps1. Honestly these are the best value for feature set and usability I can find. Especially if you do emulation. And the color schemes are just a great nostalgic finishing touch. 👌
I bought the atomic purple to go with my sons rp3 plus and I got the smoke one for me for my rp3 plus black. I can’t wait to get them. I noticed that Nintendo stopped selling as well as all retailers the pro controller. I bought 4 of those for my kids and the reviews mention that Walmart was selling fake ones. They would work a few times and then die. Btw great review.
I love my black Pro 2, it's better in every way than their previous controllers, although the wireless latency is still around 20 ms (wired is a much better 6 ms). I wish 8bitdo would concentrate on input latency, it would make their controllers the undisputed king
Very cool color, and a pretty good controller! I just wish they made more effort into 2.4ghz. Bluetooth is great for compatibility, but the input delay it creates makes it so I only use my 8BitDo BT controllers for very casual play. A switch to jump between the two modes and include a USB adapter + a “classic” adapter for the controllers that mimic the old school controllers and we’d be solid in all ways of using these without having to buy extra controllers.
hey man - loving your content and really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us! You've inspired me to build an eGPU to go with my minipc (your KingDel linked model isn't available now but I managed to find one from KingNovy with a Ryzen 9 5900HX and 2 PCIe slots so I'm waiting patiently for it to arrive!). I'm going to pair it with a Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti Vision and 2x 32GB DDR3200 modules ... So I've been looking for inline power supplies with a bit more oomph ... I found a 330 watt Dell inline adapter but it's 19.5v so I'm guessing that'll fry the PCIe interface and GPU? Another alternative is a 12v 250 watt adapter. Both options have a 5.5*2.5mm connector so I'll just need to find a barrel-to-PCIe adapter. Are you able to let me know if I'm headed in the right direction? Thanks. (And thanks again for taking the time to load your content - I know it takes hours / days to plan, create, edit, etc., ...).
I finally got one of these! Unfortunately they were out of atomic purple got the black which isnt that bad looks pretty good. Would've matched perfectly with my steamdeck and miyoo mini plus. I love that purple too. 💜
You need to add a segment when controller is being tested for connectivity with PS Remote play app because dualsense is bugged currently and ps4 dualshock is the only option ... or no ? :D
How would you compare it to the GuliKit KingKong 2 Pro Controller? I'm trying to decide on a replacement for my Xbox elite. I've bought and returned four Xbox elite 2 controllers because the face buttons were mushy or I would feel a button press and they weren't registering. I just don't trust Microsoft QC on their controllers anymore? I will be using these on my PC.
I really wish they would incorporate designs across all consoles/companies instead of mashing up SNES and PS1. They really could do a poll for each component of the controller. Example Shape: Dual Shock, Xbox One, Wavebird D-Pad: SNES, Genesis, Playstation Sticks: Dual Shock 1-3, Xbox, Switch Layout: Playstation, Xbox
I know it is not what this video is about, but as someone who grew up in the times of the console wars of the 80's and 90's, there is something terribly wrong about seeing Sonic The Hedgehog running on a Nintendo console...
Honestly I wish they would release a version like the Xbox cloud gaming controller but as one that will work with anything like the Pro 2 with the addtional software to controll everything
Been using Pro 2 for over a year now, it's an _alright_ controller. Great dpad and face buttons, this is (unsurprisingly) best suited for retro emulation and otherwise dpad focused games. Sticks are _just okay_ and with the straight grips and center sticks, they aren't exactly the most ergonomic to use anyway. It's not the most ergonomic controller for adult hands in general, it's quite crammed compared to xbone controller and the triggers are especially awkward to use, feels like gripping into the whole controller rather than a fingering action. It's also a long way from the triggers to the bumpers, but really only xbone has figured out how to make a proper shoulder button setup. Build quality seems very good. Doesn't quite feel like dualsense level dense, but it certainly doesn't feel like a madcatz either, I wouldn't feel bad handing this controller to anyone, or just using it myself. I appreciate the extra back paddles, they should be a standard feature in all controllers. While it's not a _great_ shape, it's a _safe_ shape nobody will probably find straight up unusable. Overall lukewarm opinion of the pro 2, it's not my all time favorite controller, but it has its niche as a dpad controller for me.
@@gimubatulo Sticks definitely aren't xbone good. Build quality is close enough. For me the ergonomics are nowhere near xbone good, but ymmv. I think the price is very reasonable for what you get (including the battery). 49.99€/$ is still cheaper than first party controllers and I don't think these are strictly worse, in some ways the pro 2 is even better. The new transparent colorways are unnecessarily expensive though.
Atomic purple has always been my overall fave ever since the GBC. Something about 8Bit-do's Atomic purple is off maybe on purpose to avoid copy rights or they just didn't really spec much time on that pallette wheel in the shop. 😆 Still loving my AP SN30 pro and plan to cop the Jade Grn one too.
As always, crushing these videos dude!! Got the atomic purple - which is gorgeous- but dpad seems mushy - not easy to get at diagonals. Is that normal for these or did I get a problematic one?
8Bitdo Pro 2 wired to PC works fine, only flaw a scratching sound when you press the DPad, I guess it can be fixed with some grease. I would love a N64 controller!
Man, these looks good. However, my only gripe is that they follow the analog placement of PS controllers. I wish they also release something that is similar to a switch pro con or a xbox one as personally I feel that they are more ergonomic.
This layout puts the dpad as the priority, and rightly so. It's a great dpad, the sticks are just okay. Great controller for, well, dpad games (and old emulators).
@@SaltyMaud Yup! I'm not hating on the dpad and do acknowledge that this is better dpad centric games. I just wish 8bitdo release something akin to a switch procon for other games as I do enjoy the build and aesthetics of their product.
I already have the original pro controller in that Gameboy inspired colorway. It works like a charm and I love it. But that atomic purple...... I might need an upgrade
I may give one of these a shot. Personally though I love my Xbox Elite controller… definitely some issues with them though. My triggers have gotten “sticky” and my lb and rb became increasingly unresponsive. Fortunately easy fixes if you like to tinker with your tech. Stick triggers is just a tiny little foam sticker that falls out of place and the unresponsive lb and rb are caused by some little plastic cover they put over the actual buttons on the inside. Easy to just remove the sticker foam and the plastic pieces to correct these issues. I’ve had no issues with stick drifting as of yet but there are plenty of software correction tool to change the deadzones. If anyone is still readying this. Rewasd is the single best program for any controller. I also use my controller as a full keyboard and mouse if I’m feeling extra lazy.
I am a huge fan of 8bitdo. I have a set of the n30 pro for my retropi and pc, and I got a set of the sn30 for a retropi I built for a coworker. I haven't tried this style yet. I might need to get a set of those smoke controllers. I like my n30's but they are a bit uncomfortable in the hand after a bit of time. I am also not a fan of the side by side shoulder buttons that the n30 uses. So may be time for an upgrade. 😁
I would love to know how you set up your PC and android when you get new ones. i.e. tweaks, settings, preferences prefered applications to install and what to delete.
The gray one is cool but why didn't they should've included B, A, Y, and X on the buttons. I'm good with remembering PS buttons without having to look but never memorized which buttons I'm pushing when playing Xbox..
I love you ETA. But can I just ask, when did we start saying "colorways" instead of style, pattern, design, color scheme? It reminds me of the early 00s when no one "built" anything, they "architected" stuff.
Wished it had connection with usb dongle. I noticed slight input lag with Bluetooth. I bought a 3 meter long flexible cord usb cable and it's a great controller for an Android box.

I finally got one of these! Unfortunately they were out of atomic purple got the black which isnt that bad looks pretty good. Would've matched perfectly with my steamdeck and miyoo mini plus. I love that purple too. 💜
8bitdo makes the best controllers for their price. its basically a dualshock 4 with some paddle buttons and compatability with every system
Love the intro music
They're killing me I'm a sucker for transparent cases... I'm gonna start collecting 8bitdos at this point.
I had an atomic purple Gameboy Color. Nostalgia up the wazoo.
You always do great videos dude 💯
My wife would Love the Purple one and I Love the Black one....
You need to add a segment when controller is being tested for connectivity with PS Remote play app because dualsense is bugged currently and ps4 dualshock is the only option ... or no ? :D
Seems perfect, now I just wish I could get a transparent blue or green
My like was the 1K! Good video!
I love that purple 😍
I loved the purple one, it looks so cool!
Also, are you Professor Messer's alter ego? somehow your voice sounds like his.
Whoa awesome... we're one step closer to a "Funtastic Orange" Pro2.
And when it happens, I'll buy at least three of them.
The black on black looks good.
I really wish they would incorporate designs across all consoles/companies instead of mashing up SNES and PS1. They really could do a poll for each component of the controller.
Example
Shape: Dual Shock, Xbox One, Wavebird
D-Pad: SNES, Genesis, Playstation
Sticks: Dual Shock 1-3, Xbox, Switch
Layout: Playstation, Xbox
I have the first edition (black) and this controller is awesome. I loved. Using on PC.
I know it is not what this video is about, but as someone who grew up in the times of the console wars of the 80's and 90's, there is something terribly wrong about seeing Sonic The Hedgehog running on a Nintendo console...
War has changed.
Remember when Crash Bandicoot was an unofficial mascot of Sony's PlayStation? Now he's owned by Microsoft.
Honestly I wish they would release a version like the Xbox cloud gaming controller but as one that will work with anything like the Pro 2 with the addtional software to controll everything
This new intro hits hard...
Overall lukewarm opinion of the pro 2, it's not my all time favorite controller, but it has its niche as a dpad controller for me.
if you can compare it to the Xbox controller, it's good enough. can't agree with the price though.
These new intros are chefs kiss 🤌
Thanks for testing this, does the gyro work on the steam deck and windows with analogue triggers as well? Wireless?
Definitely the best controller I've bought for my Switch, it works great for my Android games too
Atomic purple has always been my overall fave ever since the GBC. Something about 8Bit-do's Atomic purple is off maybe on purpose to avoid copy rights or they just didn't really spec much time on that pallette wheel in the shop. 😆 Still loving my AP SN30 pro and plan to cop the Jade Grn one too.
Finally some decent joystick placement
Hopefully they come out with a wired version of this transparent finish, glad to see someone doing quality transparent finishes.
As always, crushing these videos dude!! Got the atomic purple - which is gorgeous- but dpad seems mushy - not easy to get at diagonals. Is that normal for these or did I get a problematic one?
I'd love to see this in a neon florescent green .
8Bitdo Pro 2 wired to PC works fine, only flaw a scratching sound when you press the DPad, I guess it can be fixed with some grease.
I would love a N64 controller!
Damn, wish this had light grey buttons similar to the transparent 2ds models
Man, I’ve had my pro2 controller for over a year and never knew you could map and upgrade the firmware 😂
I'd really like them to do an offset joy stick version of these.
Man, these looks good. However, my only gripe is that they follow the analog placement of PS controllers. I wish they also release something that is similar to a switch pro con or a xbox one as personally I feel that they are more ergonomic.
Wrong sadly
This layout puts the dpad as the priority, and rightly so. It's a great dpad, the sticks are just okay. Great controller for, well, dpad games (and old emulators).
@@SaltyMaud Yup! I'm not hating on the dpad and do acknowledge that this is better dpad centric games. I just wish 8bitdo release something akin to a switch procon for other games as I do enjoy the build and aesthetics of their product.
Well they kinda of did it's a there own version the Xbox controller the only thing with is it is wired but has the same functions as the pro 2
i really like the black one. but i won't be going back to 8bitdo until they fix the terrible durability of the rubber pads and analog stick modules.
Same. Cant really use them for fighting games or souls games. Bumpers and face buttons gets unclicky real fast with long hours of use.
ETA PRIME...You are awesome 😎
Gray PS version is still my fav, but pruple is killing.
lol I can't get over how your pronounce "Vibration" as "viberation" haha
thanks for all the vids :)
translucent not transparent. the opacity and texture cause it the distinct difference between the two words.
Another great video ETA! Will the controller be recognized as a Xbox controller in games like CODM? My ps4 controller could use an upgrade lol
I was really hoping you'd say "it pops".
Very cool. While I'm tempted I'll have to pass since I already have a pro 2, and a wired pro 2.
Atomic purple . Always the best color
I already have the original pro controller in that Gameboy inspired colorway. It works like a charm and I love it. But that atomic purple...... I might need an upgrade
I like the atomic purple, ETA!
They have a officaly lisenced xbox style controller too, wired only though unfortunately
Me: I don't need another controller.
8bitdo: Uhh yes you do.
I would love to know how you set up your PC and android when you get new ones. i.e. tweaks, settings, preferences prefered applications to install and what to delete.
I’ve already got two 8bitdo pro2 s. But that purple though. Guess I’ll have three.
I hope they make jungle green
I have the SN30 Pro+ and it's the best controller I have ever used
So, mechanical thumbsticks with physical pots/wipers, or hall-effect sensors? Guessing the former, really want the latter.
Wished it had connection with usb dongle. I noticed slight input lag with Bluetooth. I bought a 3 meter long flexible cord usb cable and it's a great controller for an Android box.
Where do I get the adapter for the Xbox to use the 8bitdo Controller?
Nervous these will drop in quality hard soon now that they're more known and established
Doubt it, so far they've already released like 3 controllers already and all are pretty good for what their made for
