This is a really wonderful and tense British thriller. It showcases what a wonderful actor Peter Cushing was. He had that priceless asset all great actors have: believability.
And with a sprinkle of comedy.
With no sex. Can't find a new thriller film with out sex somewhere in it.
Yes brilliant
you're absolutely right.. people at that time were dumber than monkeys..
they had no idea of colors. they had black a d white clothes, black and white furniture...
Yes brilliant😂😂😂🎉😢
Anyone who has seen and loved, as I have, Peter Cushing and Andre Morell in Hound of the Baskervilles should see this to appreciate how really great these two actors are.
Many years ago when I was an art student in London, one of my fellow studnets had a Saturday job in Harrods, where he regularly served a silent Peter Cushing with a single Mars bar. Apparently he had been doing his Mars bar shopping there for years. One day, it was noted Mr Cushing didn't come in and so the student was sent round to the star's residence in a Harrods van, with a single Mars bar. Mr Cushing hadn't ordered it, but the department manager saw it as an obligation.
What a charming story! Thank you for sharing it.
Agree, Cushing was at his finest. The plot was brilliant. Enjoyed every clever moment. 👌
I'm from Canada but live in Greece. On this dark night with the blinds down, I really started to feel like it's snowing outside! Thank you so much for this movie and that feeling of Christmas!
Thank you for posting this film. What an excellent performance by Peter Cushing! This was a good little British thriller/mystery with a touch of the master storytelling of O.Henry. IMO, British actors are quite accomplished....I think due to their classical theater training. Please show more British movies. Thank you.
Although Peter Cushing was known for playing powerful, intelligent, and even imposing characters he was actually a very gentle man, as well as a gentleman. He was known to be kind to younger and less experienced actors and actresses, sometimes deflecting the criticism of directors. He was married for many years and was truly devastated when his wife passed away, he took some time to come back to acting. Oh and he even featured on a song that chartered. Unlike his friend Christopher Lee, who was on a couple of very heavy metal records, Mr Cushing was sampled for a trance / dance track. It was called something like Snow White Clouds. Not only one of the finest actors of his generation but one of the finest actors full stop.
My, that was a very clever thief. Cushing's tear, sweating, facial expressions were crisp. His superb performance held me captive.
Love this film but then again, I'm partial to anything with Peter Cushing in. ❤
Me too.❤
Talk about a 7 course meal of HUMBLE PIE ...i love the way he had to rely on the very people he looked down on and the entire staff showed him empathy and compassion...great movie!!!
That's what I call acting!!! Wonderful
This is a terrific British noir. Superb acting. Highly recommended!
I really enjoyed this Christmas thriller. There was one small thing that kept putting me off. It was every time they called the bank manager's name. I thought the crook kept calling him four eyes as an insult, and then I realized everyone was calling him that. I must be misinterpreting his name. Aha, his name was Fordyce. Anyway, it was a very intense performance by Peter Cushing and powerful lead by André Morell.
Me too😂😂
Grazie RUclips for showing this brillant well-written and acted old clasic! It was pure 'theatre' and begs comparison any day with the over-priced movies that come out of Hollywood studios---guess it was done on a 'budget'---only a good script and 1st rate acting from two actors in mainly two rooms of a simple set!
@user-pl6wk3wg6d Thomas Conrad
This seems to be a substantially truncated version of the movie.
According to IMDB, this movie is 1 Hour and 29 Minutes long; but here, this video is only 1 Hour and 3 Minutes long.
What gives??
So right you are!
My God I never knew they were making movies this good back then! Outstanding performances and very good script.
I'm amazed NO ONE but me cares a whit when films were released. This one from 1961.
I care.
@@kindGSL I'm glad I'm not alone.
I was just about to post the release date!!! I hate when that's not included in the description!!! Thank you!
@@MK-hh1vo Thank you and others here for restoring my faith in humanity!
@@kindGSL Among other reasons, it's interesting to track how RP pronunciation evolved over the decades.
Great performances all around. Cushing gets a rare opportunity to show his considerable range as an actor.
I appreciate him more with each passing year. YT has his work covered quite nicely.
There's a certain charm in watching properly remastered black n white movie.
These good old black and whites really are good to watch.
Always loved Peter Cushing's acting, interesting film
Cushing has one of my favorite RP accents. No longer exists, I think.Sad.
Wow! That was quite a twist ending...
Fabulous, I have never seen this film before. Thanks for uploading ❤
A fascinating film from 1961 with some good casting: Peter Cushing, André Morell, Richard Vernon and Norman Bird.
Peter Cushing is excellent. They all were.
Great movie! Without violence or obscene language etc.
Yeah, I knew it was missing something!
lol @@GG-jw8pt
I think this is the most sympathetic role I've seen Cushing play. Very well done.
When English was correctly pronounced and spoken .
Deffo. 🇬🇧
Peter Cushing! What an superb actor he was. Can’t wait to watch this.

Ohhh, you're no fun.
Anyone else spot the 1958 Maserati 3500 GT Coupe at 4.00? A very rare & exotic machine for those days - you'd need to be a bank robber to purchase & run one! Excellent movie by the way
I love older movies especially the ones made in England with their awesome actors and storylines.
Absolutely these Brit movies shows are always so entertaining with very little violence.
Same here. Recently watched Vilage of the Damned & City Of the Dead both from 1960. Awesome stuff.
I’ll have to check them out. Thanks!
I don’t know this movie at all but at eight minutes and I’m already hooked. Like, what’s up? Is he actually Security, or and a con man? He gives them a business card and he’s practically in the vault
Peter Cushing is a brilliant actor.
I expect most people have never heard of Andre Morell but what a terrific actor, he goes from charming to threatening and back again extremely well. I really like the film, although the plot doesn't make a lot of sense.
I agree, it would have been more interesting if the thief, Cushing and the police all turned out to be in it together.
His going back and forth from one persona to another is quite effortless.
He was very well known,in the 60’s and 70’,in Britain, and very well respected.
@@maxinejarrett7077 No. Too trite.
i. really love british film's❤
British film's what?
i would rather have plot holes than bloody gun and knife battles, the Britain of old has gone never to return.
well ... that's so. Yet, is it all so gloomy and lacking and violent ...? Pls search for the gems in the muck heap ....
Best film I've seen over Christmas,
Perfect movie for me. Just over an hour long, never a dull moment, plot twists galore, great writing and acting.
Love black and white films 🎥 🇬🇧
Peter Cushing had a breathtaking range of talent. His performance here (all the rest of cast are capital, too) is among his best, l think. Great artist. Thanks for this boffo flick
Well that was an unexpected treat. Stellar performances from Cushing and Morell. Thanks for uploading.
I'm a simple man. I see a Peter Cushing video, I click on it.
Mr. Cushing always seemed to be fighting Dracula. Here he's taken a different angle. Great acting. Thanks for posting.
Thank you. Glad you found the movie interesting too.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the movie too.
Thank you.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the movie too.
Thank you. Glad you enjoy these old movies too.
The old ones are the best.
Brilliant chamber thriller. The acting is wonderful, esp. Peter Cushing. I watched with bated breath. Terrific movie.
Peter Cushing, in his best manner. Great movie. Thank you
Love these old thrillers! Great movie!
An unexpected Christmas redemption movie, thank you 😊.
Peter Cushing. Who knew? He has a very broad acting range.
This reminds me of the Harrison Ford/Paul Bettany movie, Firewall (2006)
I love this little movie. I saw it twice. Peter Crushing gives a wonderful performance. Thanks.
He knew how much money would be in the safe, who Fordyce had spoken to at a party, but didn't know about the window-cleaning contract? Tsk, tsk.
Peter Cush❤..superb actor❤,I love our Black a d White oldies.❤
Good seeing old England, as it was.
except the teeth maybe
Gem of a little film, Peter Cushing at his best.
Great Peter Cushing. A fine actor who never needed Hammer Horror... though he excelled in them.
Yes, but Hammer Films kept him employed. As to whether Cushing needed that particular studio; let's just say that they were happy to have each other.
@thereisnospoon277 And his Hammer roles gave him so much more variety to work with. He was great here, but it was very close to typecasting. His Dr Frankenstein roles were never that!
very good storytelling
Wonderful excellent holiday movie. Loved it. The brits know how to bring it. Tis the season. 😊
The England of old when I was there in the early 70s. Alas, no more. When I was last in London two years ago, I was there for three days before I spoke to an English person.
You should work on your social skills, then.
Diversity is our strength..... 😂
I know exactly what you mean.
Nothing stays the same...
Alas, it is the way of human history. Conquer or be conquered. Only today, we do it by migration instead of open conquest. Hehe
Careful of your comment - lots of self-righteous, guilt ridden people will bash you for saying something like that now. ;)
Terrific back story to how this was made at all on IMDb and Wikipedia. Terrific little film with a few surprises.
Fabulous gem of a movie !
Peter Cushing so good ..
I loved that Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee,were great friends.Such lovely people, too.
WOW. EXCELLENT !
I totally agree. Well acted by all.
Excellent script, directing and acting
Thank you posting this black and white that I haven't seen before! Going to watch tonight. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much. Just about the best movie I have ever seen! Wow🎉
Those were the days. Bank branches gone.
We still have them in USA. I didn't know that. What happened?
@@debbabbit9283 in uk you now only get bank branches in bigger towns and there are far fewer in cities. There are "hole in the wall" cash machines where the bank used to be and a lot of banking is done online. They want people to go cashless where you pay with a "tap in" card or your mobile phone. People, eg the older ones, are not happy. I think in Sweden it is hard to pay for anything with money.
Great movie with two top-class actors in Peter Cushing and Andre Morell in the leading roles.
Excellent film- a bit similar to Dicken's Christmas Tale. Scrooge gets his comeuppance.
Bah! Humbug. You mean after buying the largest Christmas Turkey with Bob Cratchet for Christmas? So why the comeuppance?
@@MikeGreenwood51Meaning that the bank manager is like Scrooge and like Scrooge he's taught a lesson that he's not so high and mighty after all.
A gem..thank you for sharing..😊
Outstanding performances, brilliant lighting, an excellent film.
This movie is fuckin awesome. There are some things I expected but other things I didn't see coming.
Thank you for uploading this wonderful film they dont make filmsike this anymore they really dont
So well acted, so beautifully elocuted. Noliknoo.
Entertaining movie. But wanted to see more at the end. Thanks for uploading.
To think we queued round the block to see films like this. I got married next year - still am!
life was sane then
That was excellent, Thank-You so much!
Long time fan of Cushing!!
Interesting film for sci - fi fans. Dr Who , Professor Quatermass and Slartibartfast all in the same room
Loved this film just wish they changed the ending with Xmas party 😢❤
Don't make them like this anymore
I always understood: "Mr. Four Eyes", instead of Fordyce, 😂😂😅
Excellent, suspenseful, edge of the seat start to end.😮
Please mention the writer R.D. Wingfield! My favorite!
R.D. Wingfield
I thought it was. I listened to the play on Radio 4 years ago.
Actually a very good movie with excellent players! It seems Cushing starts out as an obcessive compulsive and unfortunately, these gems are cut. Some have the heart cut right out of them and are unbearable to watch when you've seen the movie. They're so good the pulse keeps going but you haven't a clue as to what really happens.
To me its always Sir Peter Cushing❤
I don't remember Peter Cushion being knighted. Au contraire, he was off one,but subsequently refused
Or Lord Cushing, going off Star Wars.
I didn't realize how amazing Peter Cushing was as an actor. A marvelous performance, my only complaint is the ending. What happens next? Is he busted for a crime, or not?
Negligence of duty.
What happens is that he learned about loyalty and the importance of friendship and what is really important in life. After all, this is a Christmas movie.
They drive him to a parked boat on the canal when it is revealed the supposed Police are part of plan B incase the alarm is raised. So the so-called Police are the Bogus colonel's crimminal accomplices. At 15:45PM the bank staff phone the Police station to find out what has happened to their Bank Manager. That is when the real alarm is raised.
Great acting but couldn't make head or tail of the plot. Very frustrating I wish I hadn't watched.👎
@@ed9763 Do you get someone to tie your shoelaces?

This is a good film - tightly written and well-acted by all concerned.
" Banking a dignified profession" 😆
Thanks for the upload. The quality of the print is excellent.
Love the great Peter Cushing.
Excellent 🍿 Movie!!
I wanted to wait till Saturday to watch it..
But..here I am!
😊 Thanks A Million!
he needed the money because Morecombe and Wise never paid him.
Wonderfully spoken and acted xxxxx
A classic film with Andre Morrell and Peter Cushing 😂
Engrossing film except for the question marks at the end. Wonderful peep down memory lane. Sadly, the England of old is no more. Very hard to find an Englishman in England these days?
So what? Little England has been destroyed by Brexit and Tory misrule.
Really enjoyed this film
