    Based on the Saturday Evening Post serial "Set Up For Murder" by Richard Stern, 12 Hours to Kill traces the problems of a young Greek national (Nico Minardos) who, after ogling a murder, is ushered off into the relative "safety" of suburban obscurity by the police, unaware that he is being double-crossed by a crooked gendarme.

    I was lucky enough to see the scene on the train being filmed at 20th Century Fox studio in Summer of 1960. Same day had lunch at commissary sitting 10 feet away from Juliet Prowse. Also that day saw Julie Newmar filming a dance number for a TV show called Tales of the South Pacific (I think) starring Gardner Mackay. All that in one day, pretty cool for a 16 year old kid

      That is great! I bet at 16 y.o. Barbara Eden left a lasting impression:)
      Are you sure it was the summer of 1960 and not a month or 2 later in 1959? I'm asking because this film looks like as if it has been sponsored by Chrysler Corporation and they are using mostly 59 models, just the killers car is a 1960 Dodge.

      @@bigblockjalopy Yes, my father had just been transferred from Conn to Calif in 1960 and were given a tour of the movie studios. Until I came across this video I didn't know what movie I was watching her filming but when I saw it was from 60, then saw the scene in the train, I knew this was it. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, almost like it was she was from another planet. Juliet Prowse was really hot, too and kept laughing at me cuz I was just sitting there in the commissary, staring at her. All in all, a great day

    • @bigblockjalopy
      @bigblockjalopy Год назад +2

      @@mikeforney354 Ok, thank you. Weird, since all the cars in that movie are from Chrysler Corporation, including Barbara Edens little Simca convertible. One would think this has been sponsored by Chrysler, like so many other movies during that time. It makes no sense using only one 1960 model but a couple of 59s and that shortly before the 61s came out, in September of 1960.

    • @theswordoftruth-dn9yc
      @theswordoftruth-dn9yc Год назад +6

      @@bigblockjalopy it makes sense for the cars to be a year older than the movie if the budget is tight, and that would be one of the least important things to add or take away from a script/movie overall...the producer probably got the best deal from Chrysler to use their cars for the time period of '59-'60, but don't forget, they may have shot some scenes out of sequence as well....the parts of the movie where the cars are pictured may have been done before the other scenes, and the movie gets wrapped up in '60...not a big deal for a major car manufacturer getting their cars some good publicity in a movie and tv shows. When you watch some of the fav tv shows from the '50's even to the '70's you will see actually the same model cars just different colors in scenes... even on "Leave It To Beaver", watch for the same cars in scenes where they need more than a few cars. "My Three Sons" was sponsored by Chevrolet, so that's pretty much all you see, are Chevys, except when Mike or Robbie get a "beater" of a car as their first car, same as with Wally....so I guess both of your memories are accurate and very observant!

    Four years before this picture Barbara Eden had starred in a short-lived television sitcom: "How to Marry a Millionaire". One of her co-stars was the sweet Merry Anders, who would go on to participate in dozens of films like this one becoming a sort of cult actress of "B" movies. (some could be considered "C" movies). Poor Merry, she was never able to escape this destiny. Barbara had to wait a few years to have her big break as Geanie but her talent didn´t go unnoticed and she had a great career. She´s an excellent singer too.
    As for Nico Minardos, in 1955 he divorced his first wife, Deborah Minardos, who subsequently married Tyrone Power and became his widow just a few months later.

I don't think I've seen him before. I'd watched several movies in a row, and in some of them, there were men who just literally only "walked through" their paces. All I wondered about one of them is why he bothered to accept that particular role.

Even the town's police chief -- is pulling in an all-nighter shift, how noble of him. Cinematography, image sharpness, dialog audio quality is top-notch. The screenplay -- not so much. But, this is what a "B-movie" is all about.

    Not a 'bad' little movie, it just goes to show you it's all down to a good script and big names of well-known actors and technical gadgetry (as in most American films since 1960's) don't exactly 'make' a decent film! This one kept the 'pace' and tension throughout; there was that on-going action and inter-action between the actors, most of whom are relatively unknown.
