Based on the Saturday Evening Post serial "Set Up For Murder" by Richard Stern, 12 Hours to Kill traces the problems of a young Greek national (Nico Minardos) who, after ogling a murder, is ushered off into the relative "safety" of suburban obscurity by the police, unaware that he is being double-crossed by a crooked gendarme. The most lovely Barbara Eden. And she's still with us!
Yep
She was a beautiful woman
I think, she had a nose job though..she looked slightly different...
.lucy ball..😄
@@kathleenking47 yup, good catch..."Lucy Ball", I wonder why that name? Was it a nod or just a coincidence?
And, I don't think Barbara Eden had a 'nose job', because she looked the same a few years earlier on an episode of "Father Knows Best".

I am so addicted to these old movies! Handsome Greek actor here.
I love watching black and white movies on a rainy or winter day or night, nothing like it! ❤
I agree!
I agree, however it doesn't rain much here in sunny California so I watch the films late at night.
Yeah
It's very refreshing to watch a movie that isn't about drugs. I find I watch the movies my dad grew up watching they put a lot more work and effort into some of these vintage movies then today's movies manufactured on computers.
I so agree with you!!!
Totally!
I’m 72. My dad would have been 92. I loved my dad’s movies too. He served as a Marine in Korea. I served as a Corpsman with the Marines (Vietnam). My dad and I both disliked drug movies. We greatly disliked war movies too.
This was a good part for her to play. Her forth credited film, and was married to Michael Ansara until 1974. She had not gotten out of the bottle on the beach, by Major Nelson, until 1965. And was Miss San Fransisco in 1951, what a babe...
My father was a construction engineer with an American company working in Saudi Arabia from 1979-1985. I lived there from 2nd to 8th grade. The Greek man worked for ARAMCO!!!
Atmospheric and suspenseful old movie. Thank you for sharing, really enjoyable ☺️
Thank you very much!
Barbara Eden is such a natural beauty and she has a very special soul. Even today she still has that same sweet nature....
📢 I LOVE BARBARA EDEN...
📢 WE ALL LOVE BARBARA EDEN !!!
I was lucky enough to see the scene on the train being filmed at 20th Century Fox studio in Summer of 1960. Same day had lunch at commissary sitting 10 feet away from Juliet Prowse. Also that day saw Julie Newmar filming a dance number for a TV show called Tales of the South Pacific (I think) starring Gardner Mackay. All that in one day, pretty cool for a 16 year old kid
That is great! I bet at 16 y.o. Barbara Eden left a lasting impression:)
Are you sure it was the summer of 1960 and not a month or 2 later in 1959? I'm asking because this film looks like as if it has been sponsored by Chrysler Corporation and they are using mostly 59 models, just the killers car is a 1960 Dodge.
@@bigblockjalopy Yes, my father had just been transferred from Conn to Calif in 1960 and were given a tour of the movie studios. Until I came across this video I didn't know what movie I was watching her filming but when I saw it was from 60, then saw the scene in the train, I knew this was it. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, almost like it was she was from another planet. Juliet Prowse was really hot, too and kept laughing at me cuz I was just sitting there in the commissary, staring at her. All in all, a great day
@@mikeforney354 Ok, thank you. Weird, since all the cars in that movie are from Chrysler Corporation, including Barbara Edens little Simca convertible. One would think this has been sponsored by Chrysler, like so many other movies during that time. It makes no sense using only one 1960 model but a couple of 59s and that shortly before the 61s came out, in September of 1960.
@@bigblockjalopy it makes sense for the cars to be a year older than the movie if the budget is tight, and that would be one of the least important things to add or take away from a script/movie overall...the producer probably got the best deal from Chrysler to use their cars for the time period of '59-'60, but don't forget, they may have shot some scenes out of sequence as well....the parts of the movie where the cars are pictured may have been done before the other scenes, and the movie gets wrapped up in '60...not a big deal for a major car manufacturer getting their cars some good publicity in a movie and tv shows. When you watch some of the fav tv shows from the '50's even to the '70's you will see actually the same model cars just different colors in scenes... even on "Leave It To Beaver", watch for the same cars in scenes where they need more than a few cars. "My Three Sons" was sponsored by Chevrolet, so that's pretty much all you see, are Chevys, except when Mike or Robbie get a "beater" of a car as their first car, same as with Wally....so I guess both of your memories are accurate and very observant!
Mike, was you on a Grayline tour?
I know they had a 20th Century-Fox studio tour for a brief time back then... I worked at the studio off/on for 35 years (1980-2015). I was their studio historian for most of that time, in addition to other studio jobs. Back then (prior to Century City) they had a 260 acre sprawling studio lot with numerous sets, lakes and land berms, plus their studio lots in HOLLYWOOD.
You really were lucky enough to see it in its prime!
Very good film, much better than the crap that comes out of Hollywood today!
TOTALLY agree.
Can't agree, I'm 70 now, so I've seen a few decades & there's good & bad in all eras. I think the gratuitous swearing now is over the top & is done so the film gets an 18+ rated for prime time on tv & now the 'C' word is being said sadly. I'm a ex soldier & that word was only said in extremis.
@@Zombai-wi4ce 1300 films, really? According to Statista, only 449 feature length films were released in 2022! As for merit, that is a subjective assessment . We each have our own standards.
There's nothing like a black and white movie. Men in sharp suits. Women screaming and fainting every five minutes. Can't beat it.

@@rafaelramirez1507 Yes they are. I love the class they had and the way men and women dressed in those days too.
Cool flick. Eddie Cahn sure knew how to make these tight crime thrillers as well as sci-fi & horror thriller too. Nico Minardos looks like a Greek Peter Lawford. And Barbara is boss! Ted & Gavin together and 10 years later found much fame & success on "The Mary Tyler Moore" show. Thanks for posting these rare gems.
I thought the same - that he looks like Peter Lawford. 😊
Mystery, intrigue, and character development, without excessive violence. Great lil' film!
Sums it up nicely.
You apparently sneezed and missed that groovy drive-by shooting in the first few minutes. Not much violence in that, eh?

“ 12 hours to. Kill.” What a great movie. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Four years before this picture Barbara Eden had starred in a short-lived television sitcom: "How to Marry a Millionaire". One of her co-stars was the sweet Merry Anders, who would go on to participate in dozens of films like this one becoming a sort of cult actress of "B" movies. (some could be considered "C" movies). Poor Merry, she was never able to escape this destiny. Barbara had to wait a few years to have her big break as Geanie but her talent didn´t go unnoticed and she had a great career. She´s an excellent singer too.
As for Nico Minardos, in 1955 he divorced his first wife, Deborah Minardos, who subsequently married Tyrone Power and became his widow just a few months later.
Nothing vital in these comments but who cares?
Actually that divorce etc. took place about 2 years before this film. According to Wikipedia
I care, thats interesting.
😮 tyvm🕊♥️
I remember seeing Barbara in an episode of Andy Griffith,I think it was called The Manicurist…..I’m sure a cpl years after this movie
Thank you for that input. Some interesting tidbits. Thanks again.
I think this B-Movie is under-rated;
a well crafted story that keeps you spellbound.
The horn honks for 10 minutes, gun shots, open windows, and the guy says, "Can't you stop that noise?" 😂
A surprisingly great film. Much better than some reviews. Tense throughout the movie.

no self respecting hit man would slap and beat Barbra Eden. Tony Soprano would burn him at the stake after circumcising his nuts.
Funny how the neighbor could hear the car horn but couldn’t hear “Lucy” scream as she was getting beaten, and not 3 bullets fired🤭😮🧐love the B movies with great actors, who went on to gr8 things, and how character actors were always working too❣️Thank you for uploading a classic gem💎gotta love the captain of that small town too-reminds me of my dad!
…..quite… and where all those 8,000. Citizens of Dentan? We didn’t see but 2 or three. The Druggist had zero business. Who was it that that neighborhood slept through that car horn, and gun shots, and old sirens?
Her screams were very little. Not much sound to them.
I was “so” happy when that neighbor stuck his head out of the window and said, turn off the dang horn. I will never forget that horn... about as annoying as the sirens in “Silent Hill” movie.
The Dodge Seneca was a ugly car with an annoying horn .
The actors , the people of that erA was so Classy...They took pride in how they dressed, Talked ect. What happened to America today... Just a thought.
Okay, one issue. If you lived in a small town and owned a store and did not remember Barbara Eden coming in, you got problems. :)

The lieutenant is trying out his best Lee J. Cobb imitation. It's not too bad and the Greek is a surprisingly good actor.
yeah, he reminds me of a cross between Sammy Leo Jacoby (Lee J. Cobb) in mannerism and Walter Matthow (Matthau) in appearance.
Why would a Greek be a surprisingly good actor?
Ned... someone is reading too much into what you said and looking for an argument. 🤣
Loved the Greek, And not because he was good looking, but He was very Real in his character and in his concerns, also very natural in the way he carried himself. I don't think I've seen him before. I'd watched several movies in a row, and in some of them, there were men who just literally only "walked through" their paces. All I wondered about one of them is why he bothered to accept that particular role.

Sorry, CRISTAL.
Collier is The guy you recognize from all the tv westerns but most don't know his name as he usually had small or uncredited roles
Absolutely!
This flick had a lot of potential but found almost none of it. Eden's always great and it was interesting to see McCloud as a gangster. But here the cars are the stars: '59 DeSoto, '60 Dodge, and Eden's classic Carmin ragtop. Brilliant!
Good suspenseful movie, good pace and it holds up today.
Good cast, especially when you think about
Where certain actors landed in the fame department.
Think of The Mary Tyler Moore show meets I dream of Jeannie.
I love watching these old flicks just to see who I recognize. And their very young faces.
Denton, New York.... Oh, what a glorious town. All the businesses are open all might.... Even though we have not seen one single person anywhere.... except for our core cast members. Even the town's police chief -- is pulling in an all-nighter shift, how noble of him. Cinematography, image sharpness, dialog audio quality is top-notch. The screenplay -- not so much. But, this is what a "B-movie" is all about.
Note: Only the first couple of minutes/credits are in Cinemascope format: the rest is cropped.

Not a 'bad' little movie, it just goes to show you it's all down to a good script and big names of well-known actors and technical gadgetry (as in most American films since 1960's) don't exactly 'make' a decent film! This one kept the 'pace' and tension throughout; there was that on-going action and inter-action between the actors, most of whom are relatively unknown.
Another funny thing is that Gavin Mcleod and Ted Knight both ended up on The Mary Tyler Show.
Great movie. 'B' movies back then top our modern so-called greats, any day. lol
