This is such a great reminder. As an intermediate player myself, I find lately I'm chasing positions and thirds. Corey just played some super soulful stuff out of a single major scale position. He also reminds us all to bring the feeling and play it like you mean it, even when the content can seem a little vanilla. That feel makes it.
Yo man, I've been using your channel for yonks now, some things are really hard for me, specific usage of pinkies (as i don't have them on either hand) and a really short bloody thumb. I'm a big blues player/fan so i do alot of improv and playing alone which your channel is great for. I just wanted to say after all this time, just so you know, you're makin me one hell of a guitarist.. One of my favourite things to play is SRV's cold shot solo. Sexy as hell, also found from you. The best thing is the doctors that took my pinkies after the OP said i'd never play an instrument, well we proved them wrong! been playing like 13 years now.. thanks for everything along the way dude.
What is cool about this is that right next door is another C major scale which gives some other choices. So root on 8 then over to the D at 5 on the A string, E at 7 etc.. Once I made that connection I felt like there were more choices for this kind of progression without really having to think to much. Another great tidbit Corey, thanks!
Corey Chameleon once again! Your skills as super dangerous session player, live performer and exquisite teacher continually surprise me. Some lessons I hear Knopfler, some the three kings, some JJ Cale, some -- fill in the blank -- but always through your unique and expressive voice. This lesson conjured the melodic greats like Larry Carlton and Robben Ford and so once again, not only do I learn awesome guitar stuff from you, but great humility and gratitude. I strive to find my own unique voice on the instrument like you so masterfully have. Thanks for your continued generosity in delivering these lessons. The effort to prepare & produce these is not lost on me. Your hard work is never in vain my friend!
Thx Corey.👍 I met you at NAMM a few years ago, when you played with Tim Pierce and Brett Papa. I love your professionalism and teaching techniques. Please continue to deliver your super videos. 😊🎸👍
Hey Corey, always like to check in and see where you're going with things! Greatly appreciate your willingness, and quality ability, to share your wonderful gift! Keep Up the Great Work!
The statement you made @11:26 is so true. I am a self taught guitar player. Back in the younger days i composed my licks or solos based on ear, preference, and major scale of the key in am in. I love it! But, guitarists from others fellow bands treated me like an alien. They mostly played based on full theory like triads, chord tones etc. But not always sounds good to me. In fact sometimes i think it sounded more technical then melodic. Thank you so much for showing what i did all these years weren't alien at all🙏
I play exactly the same. Have always been an 'ear' player. However, after 30 years I find my solos all sounding the same so am starting to look at theory playing a bit more, as a way of opening up more sonic options for me. The challenge, as you say, is to be able to add in arpeggios and chord tone target notes without it sounding like an exercise!
I clicked on this link in my email and didn't expect it to be much but wow man your use these scales were just beautiful. Sounded melodic and your instruction was spot on
@CoreyCongilio man your the best I swear your going through everything I asked about and making entire videos out of those questions too. Best blues course I ever bought, the best videos I have come across on RUclips and one of the nisest people I have ever talked too.
Amazing lesson to encourage and inspire guitarists on their journey to use our Ears to sing and get out of our 'lesson/learning' shadows. Thank you Brother. So appreciated!
Nice riff a bit Bensonesque on the start of the progression, pleasant change and so useful to get out of the pentatonic world from time to time, i remember seing Matt Schofield saying if he had missed something in his formative years it was the major scale, it is the source of so many things and definitely not to be neglected, a great start down this road from Corey, many thanks.
Continuing the outstanding lesson trend. Corey, Jeff, Brett and Tim have really helped my playing move forward. Initially with RUclips content alone but it evolved into their course content as well. Although this is Corey's video a shameless plug for the other three shouldn't hurt.
I recall being around a few a lot machines in Vegas and other places where the “music” they play is basically just major arpeggios. That’s often what I hear when I play straight arpeggios. This lesson is helping me get away from the slot machine sound so to speak. 👍🏼
Another really useful lesson that contained 1 throwaway line (not related to the topic) that has just changed my playing forever! Thanks for the 💡moment!
Great Lesson Corey, My skills (countless months in the woodshed) and understanding of the instrument must be paying off. I bought several of your courses over the past couple years & to be honest, I didn't understand much 24mos ago. I am working though this material with great melodic touch (still mixed in with some clams) but its coming along. THANK YOU for your time and knowledge.....I am watching & listening up the road in White House, TN
Wow i just found your channel through your blues rock videos. Your videos are great. I’m and intermediate and I find it hard to find stuff that I can learn from. Not because I know it all but because so much is for beginners but I’m finding some new stuff in your videos. I really like how you said the chord tone exploration isn’t always the way to go. I think that’s important that soloing/improv is not all perfect cut and clean.
What a great lesson! I have rarely run across any sort of lesson like this, so I am ask ask WHY? Corey you’re a trailblazer, this is something that really helps me to hear it with my ears and feel it and allows me to become more creative… THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!
Good Morning Corey, I couldn’t get the backing track to go through… Is this being played over a C major without chord changes but sticking with the C, and then playing the changes over it? Also, I’m having trouble logging in through chrome onto working class guitar into my Courses, I may need to reset my password I take it?
Thanks Corey i think your a great teacher i have bought 3 courses from truefire and yours i feel i've learned more. and i've been playing guitar a long time. the other 2 are great players but not so good on teaching. i won't mention the other 2, its just my IMHO.

Corey, so is this type of scale study in your Blues Guitar1 compilation? Or should a guy also visit your youtube channel to add some spice to the study. Or is it overwhelm and a dilution of focus so to speak to bring too much information into the progress of becoming a better player?

I humbly accept that!

Really love the laid back approach. Following your ears and not worrying so much about one system over another is great advice.

That’s funny because, apparently all machines in casinos play in the key of C as it’s said to be the most pleasant of all musical keys
