A blues player for some 53years,but stuck in pentatonic mode, and hearing phrases like these from,of course,Robben Ford and the like, and not being able to nail that sound or feel.Great lesson(53 years too late!) Corey......and that Epi is just fabulous!
Every time I see one of Cory's vids it makes me reach for my guitar. This diminished lick adds that dimension to me, is a head turner. i am one who needs to add some spice to my licks. i have some of Cory's lessons from Truefire and I reckon their the best bang for yr buck.
There are other great guitarists on youtube but Corey is one of the very few who combine great playing with great teaching. This particular lesson is a case in point.
So glad to find this cat. Great lesson without any extra flash. Exactly like using this technique, as soon as you overdo it the whole vibe is blown. What a great teacher.
Best lessons on planet ;) small ideas with very good explanation 'how to use it' for players who want to improove in small steps. No overloading and no licks which shine only at high speed. So you can take the guitar and play. And learn music theory by the way.
I second all the complements about this guy. Supurb player and outstaning teacher. This is an obligatory subcription for anyone interested in getting better at guitar!
Most of the players out there always refrain from locrain mode/ diminished scale, but this seemed so effortless from your side! Thankyou so much man, learnt something new today! 👏
Great lesson, thanks! I have started trying to introduce a bit of diminished into my playing and I wish Inseen this first...you just covered all the stuff in 5 minutes, which took me 3 weeks to work out lol. Nicely done...looking forward to catching more of your lessons. TG
@@coreycongilio Your channel is a real goldmine, and I also just found all of your courses through your website....this'll keep me busy for a few years :)
So glad to hear someone say how there are many facets and techniques to getting the outside sound! Change the rhythm! There are others too. Like the way you think.
Thanks, you made it so easy to understand and practice. I have tried before to apply the diminished scale, but at the end of the day I seldom use it in a real situation. This video encourages me to use it more, in this simple way you teach.
I'm always fiddling with diminished to change up the pentatonics but have never had a good idea on where to place it so well, so this is really fun and useful. I must say, too, even if I forget which is the A diminished dominant and play the fingering 134 124 134 instead of 124 134 124, it kinda works as well. Course, I haven't played it in front of anybody but this computer, and who knows WHO's watching me here?? One I use a lot is starting on the low E string at A, I just play 5 8, A string 6 9, D string 7 10 and so on (move up to on the B string), which I got from Robben Ford with possibly a little lost in translation error. You can fly on this arpeggiating even if you're slow as molasses. And it sounds diminished as hell!
Don't know how I missed this one? Love ur playing and I will learn this solo! Thanks for this tab! U play crazy great blues but few tab examples this involved! Got ur play blues by yourself love it!
Corey you are the best. I discovered you by Truefire courses some year ago and then I followed you here. Great player, great teacher. Just what I was looking for these days. Is there some of your Truefire courses that goes deeper in these stuff?
I really think this channel is going to blow up this coming year. Corey if you're listening- you are a fantastic teacher with such great content- it will reach the tipping point and just click.
Thanks mate, that was really good. Easy to understand and plus I borrowed a couple licks off you. That’s a great point you made about playing outside..it’s about rhythm as well as note choice.
Great lesson, discovered this channel a week ago .... really great practical, useable lessons. Teaching guitar just reached a new stage of evolution. Subscribed.
@@coreycongilio i was watching the same diminished principles from Josh Smith this morning, however, but your explanation had ligh bulbs going on in my head. You made it easier to understand. Keep up the great work.
Really have to give you kudos for the production quality of your videos. The lighting, guitar tones, mix and the spoken parts are excellent. Could be a lesson in it self for folks doing this. I don't think I am alone when I say that I have become rather fickle....with all the content available I can be... lol. Its like the tale of A&R men who judge an artist or song in the first 2-3 seconds...the thought being if the production sucks so will the content/song/demo. Keep it up bro!
the diminished shape (D7 triangle on top three strings) is also in second phrase of the intro to red house I guess, also used in need your love so bad and drown my own tears but slides up three frets each time to add colour. loving these lessons
I have a tendency to get too crazy with trying to go outside so this was a great lesson in reigning that stuff in. I really like how you explained adding in rhythmic interest at the same time as bringing in diminished sounds. I hadn't thought of that before. Thanks.
I was going to say it but @Grey418 said it almost exactly below! I've done deep dives previously and ended up totally lost and in a dark place (you can probably guess where I mean!), but Corey has done just what you need to start! I tried peppering solos with dim and Alt scales, with sub-optimal results (!), which worked ok-ish over jazz basslines but too outside for I IV V blues. Walk, don't run! Following this lesson I quickly sounded miles better, thank you Corey! I'm very subscribed!!
Awesome lesson that will change my playing for life even if I am 49 and play only blues scales. My Best Christmas gift !!!! Thanks a lot Corey 🥰. Merry Christmas. Kindest regards from France 🇫🇷. Belo
Corey, thank you your lessons and effort are greatly appreciated. What we get from you is tremendous and you do it for nothing. Your time and effort you put in is really priceless. Again thank you and happy New Year.
Definitely one of the best teachers on RUclips.
Many thanks!
funny thing is, every video I visit there's someone saying the same thing...
agree.. nice teaching 👍
Agreed
AT LAST! a guitar teacher that knows what the average players want to learn and then shows them clearly and without fuss. I follow your site avidly.
Thx for that.
Not sure what I enjoyed the most... The lesson or that vintage Epi 335!!
I love using diminished runs after the IV, when heading to the V or back to the I.
Diminished chords are a great fit for the blues! Transition chords!
Corey.... you’re appreciated! You teach w/ ease. Great approach. Playing is tastier than a 4 course meal.
thx so much!
The simplicity of your teaching is just brilliant.
Really appreciate that
