- The Prefab Home industry continues to pick up steam! A recent study was released suggesting the the global modular home market will increase from just under $100 billion this year to almost $200 billion in 2033. Adoption in North America is still low and a small part of overall construction while some other countries are much higher. Sweden prefabricates a far higher percent of their residential construction so I went down the rabbit hole to see what they have going on. What I found was a company with some great prefab home designs building out of a new factory (2022). In this video I check out HusVerket, a company in Sweden with some really cool Prefab Home designs.

I really like the modern looking ones.
My favorite so far given the base price. One factor I like is the precision (I.e. carpentry like corners, tiling, flooring & electrical/plumbing). I don’t want to outlive my money.

$155K for a turnkey 750 sq ft Swedish designed prefab is a no brainer and kinda puts to shame what's offered stateside.

Kerry, Love your videos. Could you have some kind of code in the title or at least at the very beginning of the video that gives the location where you can buy it and whether it's on the expensive end or the money-saving end? Or possibly playlists for lesser expensive, available in Canada, the west coast, east coast, nationwide in the US, etc.? Also, a steel frame playlist would be nice too.

These are very sleek and yet you can get a peaked roof. That must be because Sweden gets the kind of snow we get in the Northern US. If I had a US construction company, I would be on the phone to these people to attempt a partnership.

With the option to buy the drawing, I would think that it’s possible to forward that drawing to a local custom prefab company and still get the house here in North America. The cost for the house would depend on the company you get to build it based on the drawing. Or am I wrong?

You'd just need to translate all the notations to English, convert the measurements to imperial units, adjust the sizing to better align with common material sizes in North America, and get an engineer to verify compliance with whatever building code is enforced in your area. Or you could just give a copy of the floor plan and renderings to a local draftsperson to draw up code-compliant plans for you.

Sweet!! Are these built to code, meaning able to withstand big storms? I also like the modular homes in Poland.
I'd love to be able to get those last 2 but like find a way to connect them. Maybe take out a window or two of each to be like jointing wall and be able have a house with best of both worlds for like 300k.

More evidence how the EU is ahead of America in multiple areas. Regulations is one of the stumbling blocks. Have been looking and trying to buy a home for a while now and found very few, if any, mortgage companies will actually loan for a modular or manufactured home. The other part is that because of this, there are not a lot of factory built homes.

Kerry, they have demo houses across the bridge In Malmo from Copenhagen. The Fritidhjem is their Cabin @ 100 m3 and very nice, price is very reasonable considering it’s Swedish kroner about 2.8 million SEK/272K USD installed on your property with utility hookup in Sweden. This actually seems like a very good small home and not so much a weekend cabin, very good find. I will go and check it out. This would be a good option, but will ask if they can ship stateside.

@@cosmicmegafauna @Cosmic Megafauna I am in Denmark, and most homes start at $550K, so yes, 272K is reasonable. I have spent a lot of time reviewing the EU manufacturers that Kerry found, and whether Germany or Sweden, Baltic states... they all have very high costs, because of the taxes. When you ship to North America, they actually don't give discount as the taxes are paid to county of origin, so this is the most expensive solution if you live stateside. You can build any design you like yourself for 1/3rd of posted prices, assuming you already have the land to build on.
@@Kog_media No. That's not reasonable for a home of this size anywhere on the planet, let alone a pre-fab.
@@cosmicmegafauna I agree, but the prices are much higher. The VAT tax here is 25% on top of construction, everything is unionized so it’s like a typical Freemason controlled monopoly. This will soon come stateside… the so called “elite” are all Freemasons and they are greedy, want to make free money for us coming and going 😝

Wow! While it is fun and interesting to see what's going on outside the US (and Canada), it is equally frustrating to see something you REALLY like and it's not available here. I LOVE the V2.70, really beautiful. All we need to do is convince them to cross the pond!

Yes!
Seems to me these smaller prefabs are missing the boat. Why not place your home into the earth with three sides and top covered? Face the NE so storms like tornados for example approach from the Southwest and could cause no damage. The open front would be glass with internal shades. Sola Tubes up from the ceiling through the earth would provide all natural light. The earth would provide all the insulation so utility bills would be miniscule or if you ran solar panels, nothing at all. A dome type home would probably work best but if I were younger and doing it all over again, this is the way I would look at. Have an acre overlooking a nice lake and there you are with a maintenance free safe home.

Homes without awnings or some roof overhang are not fun to live in. Our home is built like that and hate it.

A house is not a home. A Prefab house must have a Prefab family to become a home. A home includes the domain. Real Estate industry uses the term home when they are only selling a house, not the family.
