Lingardinho: 1
Messi and Ronaldo combined: 0
Against facts, there are no arguments.
At 14 he looked like he already had a mortgage and 3 kids.

When he came to play at my city team, Esporte Clube Bahia, in Brazil, I thought he was almost 40 years old... Kkkkkk
Not even Bahia, at second or third division at the time, ended up wanting him or putting him to play.
hope the United States can use this as an example of how not to manage young talent
People need to stop labelling players the next 'Pele' or 'Messi'. They are all unique players in their own right and to do so is disingenuous
Yeah comparisons usually put too much pressure on them. Didnt they call Messi the next Maradona at first?
@@matthewhernandez8342 and individually he surpassed Maradona
Only a World Cup is left to win to fill the trophy void
YES! Just like how they labelled Messi as the next Maradona. im no Messi fan but we all know Messi is miles better than Maradona if you take away the World cup medal. I'm all for CR7 but Messi has to be one of the most, if not the most, talented footballer.
So true, every player is different in their own right. 👌
It gives them such high expectations as well. Really hard for some young players
It's clear Adu had some talent, but he was the United States' first football/soccer star and it's clear they didnt know what to do with him he would have been much better off developing abroad instead of being under the constant media scrutiny and glamour of the US. Pulisic is a much better talent than Freddie Adu and has achieved more than him already but would he have been the same player if he developed in America up till now instead of going to Germany?
im a chelsea fan too but i can comfortably say adu had loads more talent. i aint saying pulisic aint got talent, hes a beast. freddie just had more. way too much to be precise.
Pulisic isn’t that good, you can’t say he was a “much better” talent the Adu, because it’s just incorrect.
@@ggmu5590 Pulisic is far superior in every way, he also works for his team unlike Freddy Adu who is a very lazy footballer. He can get away with being lazy in the MLS due to his stature and the leagues level, he needed to prove himself in Europe and the evidence is that he couldn't even make it in lower tier European football and is pissing his career away, as far as anyone is concerned his talent was average at best.
Caesar Bennett I’m talking about when they were both younger. Now, yes I agree, but when they were both 15, Pulisic wasn’t “much better” as a talent.
Caesar Bennett Chelsea’s attack is looking fire with all the youth and transfers. However, Pulisic and Mount need to be way more consistent than they are currently if you want any silverware or title races.
Freddy Adu was an enormous hype job due to the American media, he needed 3 more years to develop his attitude and skills
That was one of his biggest problems. If you call a 15 year old the greatest player over and over again they believe you and won’t work at being better.
Remember when they put Jozy Altidore on the cover of FIFA 10 lol
Jordan Morris got a lot of hype too but nobody holds a grudge a against him so he plays (aka he's white). Jordan Morris wasn't better than Oalex Anderson before injury but Anderson had to come off the bench. Adu's attitude was way overblown. He was a naive kid that embraced the limelight. But he was also a down to earth guy that would play FIFA with the room service guy that wanted an autograph. He also didn't have a mentor until he met Rui Costa.
He is by far the most overrated player of all time I can't believe anyone thought he would be Pele. He had a good few years that was it. He couldn't show his quality in Europe. If he was that good why didn't a club trust him up front. Why didn't he shine for Benfica when given the chance and flopped massively. he only did well in the shitty MLS that was it and even then it was only a few years. He was by far the most overrated player of all time!
@@csokopsglazersout7447 Shining in Benfica in 2010 could be hard for 20 years old, but I have no explanation about what happened next. I don't think clubs like KUPS in Finland or Aris had better players in this position.
My Ghanaian friend says that Adu is at least 5 years older than he says he is, which used to be par for the course in African football back in the day. African national teams often won youth tournaments and did well in the Olympic soccer tournament, because their players were older than the other teams.
Calling him the next Pele was the most disrespectful thing to football..
This guy called pele the most overrated player...
It’s because he is the most overrated player ever

I feel like to be scouted and to perform so well at such a young age proves he wasn't really overhyped but more to just mismanaged and couldn't keep up with all the hype going around him😬
Beast on fifa street 2
Oh the good old days ...
he didn't have incredible potential. What he had was sublime ball skills and a lovely touch--those are great things to have. Here's what he didn't have:
--height
--speed
--intelligence as a soccer player (he has never read the game well, makes lousy decisions in games, isn't a good attacking midfielder or "quarterback")
--work habits (was never one of the harder workers on any of his teams, never showed up for a season or tournament in impressive shape)
--lacks drive (he likes the professional lifestyle and is content to be a sub making a good salary than go to a lower team where he'd play every day and rebuild his game but make less money in a less glamorous location)
--doesn't move off the ball (so he's easy to mark out of games)
--doesn't show for the ball (so he's a lousy attacking midfielder)
--is easily ridden off the ball and has no skills in the air (so he's not a very good forward or someone close to goal)
--doesn't defend
--doesn't win balls
He had some great ball skills. But the rest of his game never developed. And the irony is that most of those other elements just take work and practice.
@kajestro m. guys, you need to stop with "14 year old..." he was at least 19 when he came to the States. You don't really know how things are in Africa and how many (discovered) instaces of forged age there is with players and people coming from Africa there are. In Europe, everyone knows that they fake their ages.
He had lacks drive-at 25 he went to clubs like KUPS in Finland and Serbian Jagodina. They haven given him a paying time, and I have a hard time believing that this club had better players at this position. He was always ok, when he played in US, in Philadelphia Union he had a good two seasons. Possibly he had to stay in US and develop his career in American clubs -he didn't fit in Europe, so why torture oneself?
As for the rest of listed qualities, judging by available footage he had and even has quite good speed, reads game extremely well(passes are great, and his performance against Mexico at CONCACAF final 2011 is one of few sparks he did internationally). Moves off the ball and show for the ball well too.Motivating hard work of the player is a job of good manager.
Pele should be ashamed as he hyped Edu at such young age for money.
I mean
...didn't Pele' play on the world stage as a teenager??
Yes, Pele is a great player, probably the best. But, he super hyped Edu for commercial gains such that Edu never recovered.
@@sanishshrestha6454 agreed

@Thomas Hansen Bullshit mate. I only heard of him through FM and lets be honest... with a well place Grandparent half of the Championship (UK) would walk into the U.S National team. Also Pele is overated and would struggle in the modern game.
Thomas Hansen u talk some shite, how is there no excuse to not heard of a player who’s best ever team was benfica😂
@Thomas Hansen Yeah you're right... Championship players are too good for the U.S National team.
I remember when this kid joined D.C. United ...he the reason I played Fifa in games....to watching Raymar to this day... 😁
Hype can crush a player
I remember offering him contract multiple times on the old classic Championship Manager. To be fair, he was also a bust for my AS Roma team.
Adu did have talent, but he joined Benfica when the club was a mess, it was likely the club’s worst season in the last 15 years. He was a young guy having his first experience abroad, the club should have kept a much closer watch on him, instead apparently he was regularly seen in Lisbon nightclubs back in the day. A real shame.
The problem was, at that time, the MLS was trying their best to compete with European leagues. Teamed up with Niike, they were trying to take down the partnership between Adidas and European teams. Adu was handpicked and hyped by Nike. The guy, in a sense, was lucky as he received tons of money but he was without the ability they claimed. Hence, he failed miserably.
I feel like i’m watching a ‘top 10 creepypastas’
I like your video Raymar
Who else thinks that he lies about his age. And he wasn't actually like 14 and he was maybe like 17. Like look at him now and back then. He looks wayyy too old for a 14 year old and plus looking at his "14" yr old self he looks almost the same now. And plus African players are know for lying about their age.

Freddy Adu was never the next Pelé. He was never even half as good. He truly was overhyped.
Wanna know who really was the next Pelé??
He was a Brazilian named Dener.
Check his highlights out.
This guy was incredibly gifted with extraordinary skills and flare. He without a doubt was the next big thing because just like Pelé, he could do things no one had ever seen before.
Unfortunately, he passed away at a very ripe age of 23 in a car accident.
Thanks for all of the stats that you have presented and for all of the emotions that you have brought back to me in your previous videos. Please make a video about Adrian Mutu(Murgu in FIFA). He was Romania's second Hagi, he gave us moments that we thought that we will never feel again and after that, he became a mediocre player because of his outfield choices and because of his coach from Chelsea, Jose ...
Make one on Djibril Cissé and Louis Saha please
I would guess that the failure of his career was because of lack of management, if a soccer player doesn’t advocate for him himself or don’t have a good manager who can advocate for him and find a solid contract is game over.
He has rightfully earned the nickname "The Next Pele" because like Pele this guy is also extremely overrated and overhyped.
But unfortunately he couldn't get away with it like Pele did.
What nonsense. Pele has the best goal scoring record in his era. Edu would have to be putting up Messi and cr7 numbers to equal what Pele did in his era.
While I agree Pele was a bit overrated, these 2 were on different level... Pele was the biggest star in a 1970 star studded Brazilian team.

This happens a lot with African players; very common for Nigerians. Emenike comes to mind. To get transfers and good contracts as 'young' promising players they fake their age; they have an athletic advantage as grown men over teenagers, hence looking much better than they are for that young age.

Adu lied about his age. It happens so much in Baseball the MLB had to open an "Birth Certificate Verification Office" in the Dominican Republic where parents of potential prospects have to take their kids birth certificates at an early age to be registered and if you don't register by age 12 or something the MLB won't offer the player a contract regardless of talent later on in life. He's prob 4-5 years older than his stated age.
