    I mean...I started fencing when I was 10 years old. Before I started I always thought of fencing as a sorta "sword/medieval knights, pirates, etc." thing. But in time, and it didn't take long, I began to really think of it as its own thing. When I'm fencing, I don't think about swords and knights, I just..think of fencing, like its its own separate thing. It doesn't feel like medieval knights and stuff like that. It feels like..fencing. There's no real way to describe it, other than its a very technical, elegant sport. Almost arrogant one could say, in the style and grace fencers carry themselves with and the confidence. I'd say you're at less of a risk of getting seriously beaten up like in football or soccer, but unlike those sports I mean, when the signal to go happens, you go head on. You REALLY go after each other. I'd say its definitely more aggressive.

      Yea its the same thing with me, i started fencing because i saw three musketeers movie, but after a while i started to think in the fencing matches the fencing and not ”oh my god i feel like jack sparrow”

      Well, there are three different types you have choose from. Epee, foil and Sabre.
      And no, I don’t play fencing. I just googled it earlier.

    • @Azami0001
      @Azami0001 6 лет назад +4

      RKcousins625 well.....I'm not a fencer but fencing was a martial art at some point in its life. I mean we have karate and taekwondo that have the same rules as fencing except it's a bit more expansive.
      Although karate and taekwondo also have rules such as getting hit once is equivalent to one point and you cannot punch the face nor kick below the belt so.

    • @RKcousins625
      @RKcousins625 6 лет назад

      Marc Ortega Not this fencing. This is a sport of people who play fight. Not to be insulting to the sport but it's not even traces back to martial practice. Look up HEMA sparring and you'll see the difference. That's what I practice.

    • @Azami0001
      @Azami0001 6 лет назад +4

      RKcousins625 oh really? I am aware of HEMA and have seen a few videos but i thought that this type of fencing was also a thing in historical times.

    • @RKcousins625
      @RKcousins625 6 лет назад +1

      Marc Ortega This sport fencing was practiced in the late 1800's, but the closest style of fighting that it represents (based entirely on the weapons) is smallsword fencing. In a highly condensed nutshell, two things:
      1: Sport fencing is not martially valid
      2:Sport fencing is practiced from oral traditions, where as HEMA goes directly to historical sources, as there is no direct lineage of masters to, say, longsword fighting.

      Yeah it was a little bit poorly said from the foilist.
      Fencing is not sword fighting, if it was we would not have HEMA

    • @jarrarwinks8470
      @jarrarwinks8470 2 года назад +2

      Its kind of, its basically a blend of small sword and rapier, it evolved from practicing dueling and dueling to what it is bow, also epee is basically the most real of them all, and is more real than a lot of what modern hema has been doing, especially the literal barely moving and mind games, which hema has far less of in my experience and from what I have see , though some do it. Honestly, hema and fencing both aren’t real sword fighting, both are pretty altered. Though, I will say saber is electric tag with car antennas and screaming dudes(I fence saber more currebtly) and foil is sometimes the same.

  • @oisinnewport8668
    @oisinnewport8668 6 лет назад +4

    electrified antenna tag, not sword fighting. try HEMA for that

    • @SpiralPowerGaming
      @SpiralPowerGaming 6 лет назад +11

      Unless you wanted to use a small sword... That's not real sword fighting cause it doesn't fit my narrow definition of sword fighting and I can't stand that people can enjoy a sport.

      I'm not too fond of sport fencing being so comfortable with calling itself sword fighting. It certainly used to be but now it's in a form I would be very hesitant to associate with sword fighting. Its let arbitrary rules (right of way, only fencing within straight lines) and scoring systems mould it into something far removed from the martial principles on which it was based.

    • @oisinnewport8668
      @oisinnewport8668 3 года назад +1

      I'm mostly annoyed because fencing could be something so much better. I guess that's why the counter-culture (I guess you would call it) of hema is becoming more popular and alot of sport fencers are migrating over to hema groups or starting their own.
