    The combination of (in no particular order) agility, flexibility, endurance, coordination, concentration and reflexes - and I doubt I've hit everything - is almost unparalleled in my opinion.

    I need some clarification on requests for video review of a score. With hits being electronically detected by the equipment, does a review of the video make much difference? How often does a score change after review?

      Most of the time it's in order to determine which fencer have the right of way, at least for foil and saber.

      Chicken Wrinkles you need to do sabre fencing to understand and appreciate it, it’s too fast for newcomers or the average person to enjoy.
      Epee sometimes it’s too slow, perhaps foil it’s the best one to watch for someone who’s new to fencing. you need to have done fencing before watching any match, otherwise it’s just too bizarre and boring, but once you’ve done it’s exciting and even thrilling.

      Nowadays people dont use real swords because we have guns now. HEMA is probably not going to be useful as self defence except mabye for sport.

    It has not evolved it has devolved. I have seen fencers from a hundred years ago who were vastly superior because they actually knew how to defend. Not just mindless whack at their opponent.

    • @littlefoot3935
      @littlefoot3935 6 лет назад +2

      It's not just that. They have completely given up on defense. The idea is to hit your opponent without allowing them to hit you back. If it was a real sword fight that is the only way you could win. It doesn't matter if you get them if they also get you. The original goal was to survive. Ironically I think movies have gotten it closer to the way it was in the golden age of fencing. When there was actually a real back and forth. When it was a real challenge to break through the defenses of your opponent. If you watch fencers from the turn of the 20th century it is a completely different kind of animal.

    • @littlefoot3935
      @littlefoot3935 6 лет назад +3

      Yeah it could be but this is just ridiculous. You absolutely never see any real defense at all. I have NEVER seen what I would call a real fencing match beyond the turn of the 20th century. It's all nervous energy and wildly swinging their swords about like a bunch of over aggressive fools desperately trying to tap the other one on the thumb. It has just devolved into mindless chaos. Most of the time they don't even attempt to block and when they do it is completely ineffective because they are not really in the moment or geared towards that at all. One simple way they could change it is to have it be time based. For example give each person a minute to attack and nothing but attack while their opponent defends. Then switch it around which would force them to develop their defense. If you did that you might actually see something that is more than just a god awful mess. They could also trying using something similar to real swords instead of the wires that they are whipping each other with.

      matt Dailey lmao you need to chill lol. Rules are rules in fencing. Epee is this way Sabre is that way and foil is that way. It’s not that Fencing is devolving, the rules, in my opinion, for each weapon haven’t changed much. That’s why there is less defense in foil and Sabre. The rules dictate the play.

    Useless form of fighting. its nothing like real sword fighting. Honestly its a useless sport. They modernized and ruined it.

      What do you want at this modern era? A coming back to sword fighting... and deaths as a result, with flesh and blood on the floor?

    • @ne.2853
      @ne.2853 9 лет назад +3

      The thing you think and find as "real" sword fighting is a sport of it's own (historical sword fighting)...This (fencing) is based of the 16th,17th etc. century fencing.

    • @AlexandreCarvalhoF1
      @AlexandreCarvalhoF1 9 лет назад +5

      Aneodic But we are in the 21st century. There's no reason for use real swords like the old days anymore.

      You are wasting your time feeding the troll. If he thinks Fencing is a useless sport, let him start his own club sport where they fight to the death with real swords. In the Esprit De Corps, he should fight in the clubs first duel. Fencing and real sword fighting, are one in the same.
      Fencing came about because of the need to train sword fighters with a non-lethal blade. So to make the comment that something is useless, when It's sole purpose was to ensure that one would be combat ready when there was a need to fight with a real sword, only someone who is uneducated on the subject matter would try to make that argument.
      I will not waste anymore of my time on this. You shouldn't either, but thank you for defending the sport.
