    My father was a huge Randy Newman fan. "Land Of Dreams" was the album that I listened to over and over again. This song makes me cry every time since he passed away a couple of years ago.

    Randy Newman - one of the best songwriters/lyricists/storytellers/melodic structuralists/songcrafters of the 20th century.
    It seems somehow that he still hasn't received his full due from his contemporaries.

    Dixie Flyer was from Land Of Dreams not a soundtrack, a studio album. Can't imagine what score he would write an autobiographical pop song for...

      Randy set the pace with his intro and the band locked in. Choppy? Not to my ears. A bit slower than the album, but deliberately so. I love this version/performance. Thanks Dave.

    what does Dixie Flyer mean? I am Danish...

    • @edwardcairejr.3599
      @edwardcairejr.3599 4 года назад +3

      Dixie refers to the southern US. The Dixie Flyer was a passenger train that ran from Illinois to Florida. I don't know why he chose that line, as the train didn't run from Los Angeles to New Orleans. I guess he thought it was a catchy name which also emphasized the fact that they were traveling from the West Coast to the Deep South.

      So much easier to breeze through the millions of videos on RUclips, and click on one to add to a playlist, than it is to actually take the time to transfer from videotape to digital format, upload, and then spend how much extra time researching exact dates, lineups of musicians, etc., to share with those who might be interested in watching a clip, eh?
      Also quite easy to criticise what you, yourself, don't take the time to do [see the above]. Take your views elsewhere, if it bothers you so much.
