    They were eating pistachio nuts. Back then, when the nuts were being processed, the shells would get splotchy stains on them which looked unappetizing, so they were dyed red to conceal the stains, and the red color would get on your fingers and lips.

In Airplane! absolutely, (in fact almost that entire movie was nothing but straight men. No one at the time realized that Leslie Nielsen, Lloyd Bridges, and Robert Stack could be so goddammed funny) but in the Naked Gun films he's too directly involved in the comic beats to truly be the straight man.

    Dasha in case you missed it the bald guy in the beginning that Frank puts in a headlock is Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the Soviet Union. He was well-known for having a pronounced birthmark on his head, so Frank wipes it off and says, "I knew it!" like it was fake all along. Leslie Neilson (Frank Drebin) started out as a serious actor but became a famous comedy actor. His most popular films were Airplane! and The Naked Gun trilogy (based on the tv series Police Squad.) He also did a Mel Brooks film, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, and several other films parodying popular movies such as Wrongfully Accused, a take-off on The Fugitive with Harrison Ford.

    Nordberg, the cop who gets injured at the start and then spends the entire movie in the hospital, was played by O. J. Simpson. He was a famous football player, who in 1994 was accused of murdering his ex-wife and her friend. He was found not guilty at trial, but lost a lawsuit filed by the victims' families. In 2007, he was arrested for armed robbery and spent several years in prison.
    The bad guy was played by Ricardo Montalban, a fairly famous and respected actor. At that point in his career, he was most well known for playing Mr. Rourke on the TV show Fantasy Island from 1977-1984.

    God, such a classic. Zucker, Abrams, and Zucker are comedy geniuses. This was actually based on a very short-lived TV show, with the late, great Leslie Nielsen reprising his role as Frank Drebin. Some of the gags are recycled from the series.
    I think Weird Al appears in all three movies in the trilogy.
    Ricardo Montalban was such a fantastic "heel" actor. His performance as Khan in Star Trek II is one of THE great movie villains of all time.
    There's quite a few real baseball announcers and players of the mid-80s in the ballgame scene. I think even the umpires are actual MLB umpires (one may be Joe West. Whom a LOT of baseball fans would love to toss out of a game). Hall of famer Reggie Jackson is the "assassin."

    Think in english this type of comedy called "slapstick comedy" and this is one of the best examples of that
    (По русски этот жанр называется "фарс", это типа комедия доведённая до абсурда...)

    • @samwallaceart288
      @samwallaceart288 2 года назад

      To me it's "spoof" comedy. Lotta' slapstick in it but its main drive is in subverting established genre tropes. But it's not mocking any one movie in particular so it's not a parody per se

    • @alertol
      @alertol 2 года назад

      @@samwallaceart288 it's a mix of different genre, but main point to get simple jokes to absurd levels... Don't know if in english this word is used, but google translate said it's "farce", I heard it called "slapstick" more

    • @samwallaceart288
      @samwallaceart288 2 года назад

      @@alertol "farce" and "spoof" are the same, though farce is a more old-fashioned word for it.
      "Slapstick" specifically means physical humor, like the old Looney Tunes cartoons. Naked Gun has a lot of slapstick in it but it's primarily a farce. It's like farce is the format, and slapstick is one of many ingredients within that. It's also got a lot of wordplay, puns, and intentional melodrama that goes together with the slapstick
