I would argue that crafting is not one of the core elements of the game. Yes, it is an important and valuable aspect; however, it's not the main goal to craft. That's what I appreciate most there is no base building or difficult game mechanics. You are simply just surviving, never thriving.
Although not flawless, it's the last true survival game. You never just stop hunting for resources and wildlife, never stop fighting cold or hunger or thirst. You can't avoid afflictions, or damaged clothing. You learn to take small victories (a warmer pair of socks or couple pills of antibiotics) and learn from your mistakes. Your 100th campfire is just as welcoming and cosy as your very first. You can't just automate or craft something that solves entire aspects of the game and for that i love it.
This is exactly my issue with all other "survival" games, usually the difficulty goes away once you are able to build stuff. In TLD you can still die fast, any day, nothing will completely insulate you, just your desicion making skills.
Awesome video sir, liked and subbed. The Long Dark isn't perfect but it is a masterpiece. A bit tough to learn the game (no tutorial), but well worth the effort. The story mode is decent but survival mode is the meat and potatoes of the game. Virtually unlimited reply value.
As someone who's been playing DayZ for years I am a little interessted in this. But what does it offer compared to DayZ? Except for the story mode and artstyle ofcourse.
You have mixed story mode with survival mode. The wintermute story mode has several difficulty modes as well as the survival mode. And these two are independent of each other.
I don't get how someone calls this a super reality game. The character is totally unable to overcame the smallest obstacles, can't even jump. And when you find a knife (you used to kill a person) you can't take it???? Also, having about 4 elks jumping around you is totally real too. Yeah, no...
The developers themselves say that: "TLD is a survival experience, and we strive for realism in many areas, but it is NOT a replacement for actual survival training or experience in the wilderness. In the end, our goal is to provide an interesting set of choices for you to play with safely. It is not a wilderness survival training simulation." They also warn you about using what you learn in the long dark in real life. Saying it could result in injury, ilness or even death. So even if someone called this a "Super reality game", it's definitely not what the developers aim for, and dirt should not be thrown their way. They have made an amazing experience, where you have to make tough choices and they give you a set of options with unique boons and flaws. So why jump, if it's not really intended for the game. Why take that knife, when it doesn't fit the story narrative. And 4 deer jumping around, well... They are a resource for you to use, not a simulation of real deer.
@@CodyWhiteMusicthere’s a difference between graphics and visuals, dude. It’s not always about having the best graphics. I’m sure as a subpar “artist” yourself, you can understand that.

A very slept on game for hardcore survival players
agreed!
Map knowledge is everything
If you know where items spawn and where resources are it's quite easy to survive
worth every cent + dlc

Love this game (one of two I own). I describe it as a vengeful, murderous oil painting! I love it!
Good review. Thank you
“The Edge” the video game.
Good review thank you buy your accent is difficult to understand :)
No it isn't hard to understand him at all
Yes this game is worth buying but not it doesnt have everything. Doesnt have zombies...
Or ultimate frisbee league
Doesn't have any open restaurants
Doesn't have addidas ultraboost
Not having zombies is a big plus, honestly, it's refreshing to have a survival game without zombies or some analog like mutants.
My ideal survival genre involves zombies of some description.

There are no elk in the game... i think your confused.
@oscargoldman4867 ok a deer then. Totally changes my point, right?

@@CodyWhiteMusicart style. Some people find this art style appealing. You propably enjoy looking at soulless generic AAA slop tho.
