The Darkwalker challenge make the game scary. As well as the fact that thus type of apocalypse could actually happen in real life. A massive solar flare could disable all not hardened electronics and damage the earths magnetic field.
One of the best essays I've seen on YT about "The Long Dark". You so very well describe what playing the game is like, how it draws you in. I want to add, while the game doesn't have a tutorial as such, it greatly helps feeling more at home on Great Bear Island, if the player starts the story mode "Wintermute" on a lower difficulty first. Surviving the sandbox after that will be a less daunting experience.
i eased myself into the game with Wintermute at first, and it was a great introduction to the basic mechanics - the story's interesting, but it mostly serves as a great tutorial for new players. i've been trying my hand at interloper, quite unsuccessfully! i'm so glad you enjoyed the video, thank you for your comment
You will never regret it! Well..... perhaps after trying the chalanges! I was shaking for hours after my first attempt at the darkwalker. It's addicting!
I want to play this game ! I love survival games ! And this game seems to have a more realistic approach to survival games then most ! Excellent video ! 🙌
somehow i knew you'd like this game! it's really something you can immerse yourself in, every day is a story, like you say. thanks so much for watching :)
I was lonely most of my life ! Even though I had many people around , such as friends or affiliates , I was truly alone ! I only started to feel that empty feeling dissapate , when I had my daughters . They were everything I ever wanted and needed to fill that void , that I had known all my life . To this day I spend all my time and effort on my teenage daughters ! Without them I would be nothing , but an empty shell of existence ! I’m am thankful that I have them . I truly am happy in ways I can never express , even though it’s tough being a single dad ( financial wise )it’s the best thing in the world for me , who was a person who was truly lonely !
I always love finding a new group of videos and instantly seeing amazing games in their channel. Beautiful videos 🥺🥺 I supported Long dark when they first went early access with just the one map, it's such a vibe game I always come back to when nothing else is going on.
This is a beautiful video... thank you for making it. I have loved the long dark for a very long time. I play many different games, but I keep coming back to the long dark. Your opening statement really hit me. Have spent the last 5 ish years in complete desolation.... I have got so used to it I have lived 500 days on interloper.
I really love the Aurora event and this game as a whole As a sami we have a tradition or I guess more of a superstition about spirits and how angering the northern lights by being loud or looking at them too long will cause them to kill you it feels familiar
Very nice and motivating explanation man, as someone who hates fantasies like elden ring, robotic games like crysis and enjoyed both versions of dying light, i myself literally traveled from Iran to canadian nature with just looking at this game for long hours, a masterpiece indeed. i don't understand whats the point of elden ring like games that draws people's attention so drastically which is really unbelievable while this reality oriented game with such a simple animation creates an atmosphere so so deep that it truly became a memorable joy and good memory. I think some people value true and valuable art and need to be connected deeply with the movie or game they are watching/playing....
I love this game. I would definitely call it a horror game mostly achieved with the constant dred of the inevitable! Although it does have its share of jump scares! Damn corner bears! Lol
Great vid, this game is beautiful to look at and probably the most authentic and fun survival game I've ever played, all that being said I think hinterland really needs to dial in on the longevity of the adventure..once you get a good handle on the mechanics, survival tactics and you're own style of stalking the snows, forests and towns in the world, and you've got some good tools by you're side like you're reliable bow and rifle, some good clothes crafted from days spent curing the hides of the games top threats that are wandering the game like you are...once that's all said and done the game really does taper off. You've become the apex predator of the map for lack of a better word, and the only thing that temporary re kindles the excitement you felt in the initial days is either playing higher difficultys..which just really slows down the process of building the same character by making items more scarce..or you end up taking more exciting but unnecessary risks on whatever difficultly you're playing just to see what happens, to add spice to it. Eventually...unless you're goal is to physically lay eyes on every part of the map to see what it looks like..the reasons to venture farther and farther into the world quickly evaporate once you're character and you're skills reach a certain level of establishment....there ends up being nothing to do for the player, and you just feel like you've won the game. The challenges and threats to my life need to keep coming hinterland..and please God don't let it be in mechanics like that cougar 😂
If you mean this on Interloper Level, I agree, eventually. But it´s an awfully long run to get to that with all regions covered. Not to mention so many hours of play that you´re wondering where to get the cloth you need for the repair of the man made clothes, feather stuffed bedroll and re-forge of knife and hatchet you´re still using when Lower Great Bear has already been stripped of cloth, sharpening stones etc.. Do you really need to go to the Far Territory? yep! 😃

So good to have you back full time ❤️
Good to be back!!

Good video! I spent hours and hours playing this game. To me it's so much more than survival, it's stories day by day as I play

this video felt like my way of thanking Hinterland for making this game, and for the many nights I've spent in isolation. really glad you enjoyed

my partner and i played through firewatch a few years back, it was amazing
Amazing video! Super well done! I love the part on the aurora!!!
Definitely the most realistic take of an apocalypse that a game could use, Whoever came up with the idea is genius.
