Loved this video! I love TLD and i find this is a really nice overview of it. Comment on the intestinal parasites: actually getting intestinal parasites is not as simple as just eating wolf meat. If you eat one piece of wolf or bear meat, you gain a 1% risk of intestinal parasites. The risk increases the more pieces you eat in a 24 hour period-when those 24 hours are up, the game runs RNG, and determines whether or not you get the parasites. This means that the best way to eat wolf or bear meat is 1 piece, containing many calories, every 24 hours, as your risk will be at 1% and then reset when the 24 hour period is up :)
@@wyoplays Just so you know you can only get intestinal parasites while on stalker and Interloper difficulties. And custom if you choose it. So go nuts on the wolf meat :)
Honestly, you should ALWAYS pick up clothing. Because then you can salvage them for cloth and leather, which can be useful to repair clothing or even craft more bandages
I would argue that if you are on a lower difficulty like Voyager, like we were, its not really necessary. Cloth and bandages arent rare and the weight isnt worth it, especially if you are short on another resource.
You know my favourite part about this game? the sound design. Those howls at 9:12, aren't just ambient noise, they are the actual wolves in the game and that noise actually means something to the player. SO cool.
I want to mention that during the bit where I jump off a cliff and land in a pile of snow, I was live streaming the editing process. We kept getting an error with the way we were originally going to do the snow effect, twitch came up with a idea that looked better than original. Also, I need a sponsor. Bills are coming up and its getting tight. Displate, if you're watching this, maybe give a G a call, maybe an email. My apartments empty anyways. Also also, Im not sure why the final cut got so quiet. Im only noticing it now watching it back on my TV.
I play custom where the animals don’t attack me but the weather is harsher. I play more to relax but that doesn’t mean things don’t get crazy sometimes. As a Canadian that’s been in storms like these, they made it eerily familiar to me. Hands down one of my favourite games.
I always start on Timberwolf Mountain. If you know which way to go, you can easily climb to the summit where there's a treasure trove of high-level items, and you're basically set for the game from there. There's also another area, Ash Canyon, next to it, which you can also speed-run if you know the route, and get the backpack for a permanent +5kg (11lbs) carrying capacity bonus (which is a must have, if you're going to travel around), and possibly run into a moose and make a satchel out of its hide, for another +5kg bonus.
Yeah, Timberwolf Mountain starts are the best, go to summit, go to ash canyon, get the backpack, now I am ready to start exploring. I probably spent way too much time in the mountaineers hut

Great video! You certainly made the long dark look difficult and good for people whom don't know certain loopholes. To make them figure it out for themselves instead of being a pro at the game and ruining the learning aspect.
just a tip, when holding a lit flare(red) you can continue moving and disregard all non-timberwolves, all regular wolves will never approach you while holding a lit flare
also, carnivore meat will only give risk of intestinal parasites on the two harder difficulties, and even then eating a single wolf steak every 24 hours isn't a bad thing
fires will keep away animals, at the farmhouse you could have built a fire (in the fire barrel) next to the workbench to, give you warmth, light, and ward off predators
Yep, and if you drop the flare between you and the wolf, and then aim your weapon at it, it'll charge up to a certain distance and then run away scared. You don't need to shoot them or even have ammo in your weapon. The only times this doesn't work is if there's an aurora, even timberwolves will temporarily run away if you do this, though I don't think they lose morale, or if they do it's a negligible amount. During an aurora, almost nothing will scare away wolves or timberwolves, the only thing that works reliably is a flashlight using the high-beam setting.
