    2007 LBZ here original owner and as I sit here watching this video I’m currently at 399,850 miles. Never touched the injectors, turbo or trans never a single issue. I LOVE LOVE my Duramax I do need to replace the thermostats right now. Other than standard maintenance and tires the truck is untouched. I do have transgo kit, PPE tune and turbo back MBRP..

      I got my LLY in 2014 with 76k on it. Still drive it everyday with 220k on it still runs great. I had to replace the water pump around 170k and the hydroboost around the same time, both leaked on me but hydroboost was easy to change, the water pump a little more involved but do-able for the skilled DIYer.

    Just bought my first Diesel a week ago. After slight research picked the Duramax 6.6 over Cummins and Ford 7.3 and went shopping for a used one. Bought a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and it’s the LLY version I learned after looking at the VIN. Super excited I bought this truck. Been learning a lot this past week about them. Great info in the video.

    Had wanted to get the 2007 LBZ when looking to pick up a diesel. I liked the OBS over the NBS. No luck whatsoever in my area unless you wanted to travel several 100 miles to look at one, and then they were pretty high priced. I was driving an 05 3/4 ton gasser that looked just like the one you have now. Found a 07 NBS with LMM that had just been traded in on a brand new Silverado. The truck was local, serviced local, and very well taken care of. Price point was in my range. Still need to take care of some things on it, but I was extremely satisfied with the performance of the diesel. So I guess I also represent the Love My Motor group! Thanks for the history lesson, very interesting!

    I have a 2006 LLY. 218,000km. I got it from my dad just recently. He used it as a grocery getter in a small town. I was pondering upgrading it to a 2014 Denali LML (I love that style) however your video has me second guessing. The truck is still 100% stock but I’d like to add a tune and the pump rub fix very soon. Thanks for the information.

    Easy way to confirm you have a actual LBZ is the 8th digit in the VIN is “D”. Also I think the LBZ has 7 hole injectors. Great info for someone looking for a Duramax powered truck👍🏻

    • @DaJokrz
      @DaJokrz 6 лет назад +3

      5280 Jeff correct, but hard parts are identical. I have an 06 lbz and an 06 lly. There was a difference in head gaskets, one was riveted and one was pinch welded i believe. The tuning difference was simply due to GM waiting on the emissions to be passed on the lbz. Its easy enough to get the dealer to put the lbz tune on the 06 lly however, so the tuning is kinda a moot point.
      Kudos on the comparisons. Very informative.

    Truckmaster you have done it again. I think you did a great job explaining things, especially for the guys looking at getting into our platform. Nothing new as a fellow LBZ owner. But good info. I think the only thing you lacked was the 8th digit vin codes for engine designation of all the models. Not trying to steal the show but just trying to add .
    LB7 -1 (Fixed vane sound, awesome)
    LLY- 2 (06 Exception,mechanically LBZ)
    LBZ-D (hotrod they say, mine was a dog. stock)
    LMM- 6 and 9 (way to garbage up an lbz with more emissions crap )
    LML- too broke to care
    L5P- Why are we still talking about this, all you want is an LBZ anyway

    Love your channel man. I’ve got an LBZ. through my job I’ve drove all the new diesels.... with at least 16-20,000 pounds behind em. nothing compares to a LBZ. I base my opinion on stock trucks. The LBZ just always has more to give it was the most power you could get with no emissions. And the potential of aftermarket power is in ending...

    I just got an 05 lly with 158,000 miles. The only mods are an.s&d air intake and 4 inch exhaust pipe.. this truck is very clean. No rust. Interior is perfect. I got it from a 93 yr old man who got it new in 05. The body and paint are just about perfect. No dents or bad clear coat. It's my first diesel. In Oregon here they range from 15 to 20k. I paid 17k. I sold my 2013 f-150 to get it. I recently got a toy hauler and needed a 3/4 ton. This was the nicest one in my budget.

    I own a 2011 (LML) GMC 3500HD, that we use for full-time truck camper hauling, and utility trailer towing. The only issue we've had, has been a NOX sensor problem in the first year, and the DEF system, which, according to a service manager we spoke to, was the worst design ever due to the heating plates in the tank. Deleted it, and no problems since. Love the truck, 10 years, 100,000 miles, still runs like new. I hope it lasts as long as some others in this forum.

    I drive 2009 LMM DURAMAX , I was told to delete the particulate filter system because the DPF caused diesel gas to be back flushed into the engine oil ! I was told that this could cost me 100,000 miles off the life of the engine ! So I had the DPF taken off and replaced the exhaust and had the engine tuned using the factory computer chip ! I have 145,000 miles and use it to tow my 5th wheel every now and then ! Otherwise I baby it with timely oil changes and allison 6 spd transmission fluid exchange every 35,000 miles and external filter exchanges along with the gas filter changes ! I get about 20 mph pulling my camper on flat road, no wind at 65 mph !! Awesome fuel milage about 22.5 mph with out the camper ! Plenty of power to do anything I want ( engine tuning )

    Nice video, the comparison was awesome. We bought a used 2004 (lly ) in 2008. The truck was traded in from a local dairy to our local garage (formerly a GM dealership that my family has used since before me and I'm 51 ) and had 107,000 miles ( newest vehicle I've ever bought, age wise). Now truck has 300,000 miles, new transmission and transfer case at 293,000 miles ($5,500, done at a really good performance transmission shop). Luckily transmission quit with the trailer empty. Transmission shop said they never heard of an allison trans go that many miles. They usually only last 150 - 200,000 miles. Our shop said they never heard of an allison trans go bad. Except one that the tail shaft bearing went out and people just kept driving it on a farm until metal from bearing destroyed the transmission. Our duramax is a GMC 2500hd, 4x4, four door, short bed all stock. My old baby (currently not running an no time without dust, dirt and wind to fix ) is a 1969 chevy 3/4 ton four wheel drive. It has 4" of lift, 35" tires, sm465 4 speed manual transmission, np205 transfer case ( I installed this along with a disc brake front dana 44 axle) and a professionally rebuilt 454 with 375 - 400 horsepower (I shoehorned the engine in myself. This body style only had big blocks in two wheel drives and it sits ahead two or three inches ). Towing, the duramax is comparable. Duramax has almost double the fuel mileage but sucks off road and feeding in the pasture. Duramax is too low, too expensive to lift and doesn't turn. But we'll keep it forever like everything else. Duramax also has A.C. which is nice because I work part of my day in a 34 degree cold box. Anyway, our current issue is the ficm. Twice before we had trouble with the injector harness, "they said" #2 and #7. First time was on a trip to Oregon, second time our local shop fixed it. This time our local shop said I got the ficm wet. $750 for a reman part, $1150 total. Truck quit when we got home ( 10 miles away). Shop said limp it back in. It took 45 minutes at 14 mph. The day the truck originally malfunctioned, it was raining and dark at 3:30 a.m. I hit some big puddles but truck ran fine until I was leaving work. I drove through another puddle slowly ( In the early morning I was going faster). Five minutes later the truck shut down. Two days before this, I fueled up at Chevron. After about 20 miles fuel guage read 3/4 and about 30 miles, to and from work, guage read 1/2. When truck went to limp mode fuel guage read empty. I limped to Chevron and put in 8 gallons and guage still read empty. Shop said fuel guage is a different problem. Fuel guage worked correctly on trip home after repair but back to empty while limping back to the shop, in the dark at 5:00 p.m. Truck is still in the shop. Any advice, ideas, help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your videos.

      I've been considering one for a long time. I recently changed the water pump and noticed the housing was slightly eaten away at the turn point. I'm pretty sure that was from the crappy well water I used at the first coolant change, so a filter would have most likely prevented it.

    EGR is added to cool exhaust to reduce NOx emissions. Hotter the burn mor NOx less particulate. The cooler you get the reverse.

  • @thehappytexan
    @thehappytexan 6 лет назад +32

    Egr isn’t used to “reburn”. Cooled exhaust is an inert gas that is put into the combustion chamber to lower combustion temperature and that reduces nox. Nitrogen oxide. Not to be confused with nos, that’s nitrous oxide. One is a deadly pollutant that will kill you if you breath enough of it in, and the other is laughing gas.

      @DastardlyWaffle Not to mention that the computer knows what proportion of exhaust gasses are entering the intake stream (assuming your valve and sensors are working correctly) and adjusts the fuel requirement accordingly. Assuming all other intake sensors are working correctly ( MAF to intake manifold pressure) you will use less fuel and make the same power. Remember, almost all emission controls function below 1100 rpm and most of us are towing and making power above that number. Keep on making classy comments full of knowledge brother!

    Great vid, answered a lot of questions I had. I'm not a guy who doesn't play favorites, I love all machines. I have owned a lot of machines, be it motorcycle, boat, truck, Rv, off road side by sides etc. I started wrenching back in 1965 on my first motorcycle. My first car was a 1958 Chevy Nomad which was my families car with 260k on the clock. It had the 348, I started work on it in 1967 to get it running after sitting for a year until I got my drivers lic. After it died I went to a 1956 short bed Chevy 235 6 banger. Though the years I can't count how many cars trucks I have owned. I've owned gas trucks of every brand just about. In 2000 I bought a brand new off the floor F350 7.3. Then the next diesel was an 05 ram Cummins. Then followed by two more 7.3's which I love to work on. I decided I need a 3500 dually to haul the weight I am now towing. I did a lot of research because I don't have a ton of money to throw at a big truck that is capable of what I need. So I settled on a beautiful 2006 Duramax dually with 159k, the guy I bought it from was amazing, he had every receipt for everything that had ever been done to the truck. To make a long story longer, he did things like EFI tune, 5 Inch turbo back stainless exhaust, rebuilt transmission with heavy duty parts for the tune, and so much more. But what I was getting at it turns out it's a LBZ. Thanks for help understanding the Duramax as I am now fan.

    The LB7 is the strongest Duramax of all the years despite the injector issues. Injectors can be changed out on the LB7 in a days time. Instead of buying rebuilt injectors, have yours rebuilt and save half your money. The common issue with these injectors was cracked bodies. Bosch fixed that. The second issue is the VOC nozzles. Now they are making SAC nozzles and are showing great success in longevity.
