- This is very similar to the panda bread I made a while back. I actually mention in the description that the design would make cute panda cookies. Here is the link to that video:
• How To Make Panda Bread
Someone else has done these but I used a from scratch recipe and the instructions from my panda bread video. Here is the website (they use a cookie mix and cocoa for the ears and eye patches):
taste-for-adven...
I found the sugar cookie recipe here:
www.bakespace.c...
This would be perfect for my rainbow and unicorn poop cookies as well.
No spread sugar cookie recipe:
3 cups flour
1/2 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup unsalted or salted butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract (or any other extract you want to use)
1/2 tsp. salt (you can omit this if you use salted butter)
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy by hand or with an electric mixer
Add eggs and vanilla and blend well.
Add dry ingredients gradually to butter mixture mixing well until dough comes together. Turn out onto counter top and knead lightly until it makes a dough ball. Chill dough if it is very sticky.
Divide dough as follows:
First division: Divide white dough into three pieces two large and one small (small one about a third the size of the one of the other two large ones)
Knead in green food colouring into other large plain dough ball. Green dough: Cut into two pieces, one piece twice as small as the large one.
Knead black food colour into small dough ball and cut into four equal pieces
Division of remaining white dough:
Cut into three pieces, two large, one small (one half the size of one of larger ones)
To recap, before assembly you will have the following:
4 equal pieces black dough
2 pieces green dough (one big one half the size)
3 pieces white dough (two large ones small half the size of the larger ones)
Assemble the panda cookie log as per video directions.
Chill the log for several hours in the fridge or 45minutes to an hour in the freezer, the dough log should be very firm to that when you slice it, it does not squish or deform.
Place cookies on a greased or silicone mat/parchment covered cookies sheet. These spread very little so it okay to crowd them. Bake at 350 F until they are set (8-10minutes) and the edges are light brown. Let cool on cookie sheet for a few minutes and transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Once completely cool decorate with frosting to make noses and mouths. This recipe makes about 2 dozen cookies, this is a half recipe from the one on the website.
These are sooo cute. I just got done making plain sugar cookies today, next time I will have to try these out. I love how each of them have their own personality from how you rolled out the dough (like some the eyes are bigger than another)
What a kind comment! Thank you for taking the time to make it :)
I tried an experiment with this recipe, and it turned out amazingly! I mixed a batch using brown rice flour and a little cinnamon. I rolled them up with cinnoman sugar in the middle, sliced them, and called them cinnamon roll cookies :) My dad (a picky eater who normally wouldn't eat brown rice flour if his life depended on it) ate a few and said they were amazing, he couldn't even tell the difference! Success !
I've always wanted to make those hard candies with the designs in them they look like fun
It's a great mixer, my all time favourite so far.
Those cookies are just the cutest thing ever! Once you put the mouth on they really came to life!
The dough needs to be pliable to mold and wrap it and to press the pieces together. You may be able to freeze the black portions prior to
Sugar cookie dough is generally like that naturally, that's why for my other cookies like my rainbow cookies I use a cream cheese cookie that has more pliable dough
The baking powder helps make them tender and flaky. You can leave it out but the cookies may be harder
I am Kate Mikals and I have watched many videos that you have made. I am ten years old and your videos are basically my homeschool education. Thanks for making the videos!!
They are a nice crunchy simple sugar cookie.
You need a contrasting colour so that the white shows, any colour of your choice will do
WOW...I never knew what went into making cookies like this. You are amazing. I watched a video once on how they make those round hard christmas candies that have sayings in them. The process you use to make the cookies is the same as what they did. So cool. You are really talented!!
The silicone bowls were a gift, I believe they were purchased at the "world market" store
I think that's the best part about them. ^_^ They don't brown much except for around the edges, so the panda isn't discolored.
I buy mine at the Bulk Barn in Ontario Canada, it is wilton brand (the only brand I can find here)
Omg they're so cute, I love their derpy eyes lol
They are crispy crunchy
I do my best to remember that I have some very young beginner bakers watching my videos that may genuinely not know the answers to questions that most baker adults would think is common sense. It does take patience at times though, I agree :)
Egg may leave some colour behind when it bakes, but I've never tried it. I suggest water or milk.
They taste like a simple sugar cookie, that's it :)
Yes, see link in description box
I was watching this with my cat on my lap. She loves your videos as much as I do!
I will try that around Christmas time :)
This is the best and cutest cookie ever! I will definitely make it!
They are about 3" in diameter when baked, plz reply soon
1st panda bread, then panda cupcakes, and now panda cookies!! i absolutely love u now. =D
this is one of my fav videos cause one of my fav hobbys is to make taffy with designs in the middle and making fimo canes you should try it its fun.
Pretty much like regular sugar cookies, nice and crunchy
I don't know it there is a colourless chocolate flavouring out there or not?
this is soo good!! i was a bit confused untill i read the name as i thoght it was the bread!! it so clear and good!!!! x
I have an online boyfriend and we are doing our best to meet at some point ... we're both into the same things and I've promised him a homecooked meal when he comes. However, he has no clue I plan to make this AND your panda bread! These are the only two I've seen so far but you can bet I'm subscribed and am watching your videos like mad!
LilMrsAnime xD
Awww, the panda has derpy eyes
You are right!
hi , my names hayley penn , im 12 yeas of age and im ubsessed with cooking buscuits so can i just say ur videos have really brightened up my life x :)
Thanks for subscribing!
I have a heart cookie using the same technique and some rainbow cookies
I was curious as to where you got your food colouring.
I love your baking videos! I find them inspiring, and it makes me want to bake stuff too! :)
For the green food coloring, can i use the green tea mixed with water to subsitute the green like in the panda bread?
Wow I remember when u used to have little subs. Ily yoyomax. I hope ur son is doing well. I've been a subbie for a long time. Ps I used this recipe and it worked
Max is very well, thank you! Thanks for being a long time viewer :)
I have been wanting to try your sugar cookie recipe for the LONGEST! Since I'm starting summer school later this week I think now would be a perfect time to try it! But after I "study" of course :-P.
Omg! I never knew you had a cookie version of this! I saw the bread one and thought 'let's make it with cookie dough!' and you know how that ended up =)
I made these and they were so good!! I love your helpful tips!!
Hi, i'm not sure if you can answer this but this sugar cookie recipe is great for an idea i have, which is making Jaws cookies, can you think of a way i could construct it all together like you did with the panda cookies? Thanks
adorable. you have the skillz, friend. it looks like it should be simple, but i would muck it up somewhere between cutting the dough into the right sizes and rolling it all together and stuff. yay you!
this is so cute! i work with little kids so i will try this with a little less sugar. its so cute and fun.
Derp Pandas
The poop cookies use a different recipe, but the dough would be suitable for this one too.
Can you brush some butter or beaten egg on the doe to make it stick? I'm just wondering, because I think my mom used to do that with some other recipe.
Never mind my last comment! It isn't the same recipe as the rainbow cookies, but you certainly can use it for these.
For the black part of the panda I was gonna use coco powder because I don't have the money to buy the food coloring because in my part of the world it is very pricy so i was wondering your advise for that? Should I just add the coca powder and be done or should I add more sugar or anything to help flavor it. I know for many recipes i use if you want it chocolate they want you to add more sugar to mellow the coca powder out.
It adds flavour, but you could just add more vanilla extract
if we just want to make simple cookies (without the panda shaping and all), do we still chill the dough before baking?
I have a headache after reading this comment. It doesn't matter if the dough ball is not EXACTLY on third the size of the other two. A rough estimate is okay. You need two large and one smaller, that's it.
when u use the last white cookie dough, do u wrap all around? and the last green one, do u wrap it all? PLEASE ANSWER QUICK
omg they are SOOOO cute!! :) i acttually kind of like how their eyes are lopsided
Would it be okay if I didn't add the almond extract or any other kind of extract besides vanilla?
hi i dont have black food coloring, and you said you can use coco powder so do you just add the powder ??
I did this, I used Blue instead of green and used pink instead of black.. They are SUPER cute, and yummy too!!! :D
Would it be easier or harder to freeze the dough before you started putting it together?
that is so cute! where did you get the little rubber bowls at the begining of the video?
crunchy
I have a feeling it is there to help retain the general shape of the panda bear. That and just the panda shape while cooking could warp and deform. Plus...its more cookie...
That is a great cookie. It is very cool to see it all come together. Thumbs up.
omg i remember cookies like these that you buy at the supermarket and bake yourself. i miss these like crazy.
can we use the cream cheese cookie dough you've made before instead? :)
for the green, can you do another color of your choosing?
OMG!!! Those cookies is just so aredorable i love them-333
in each recipie can you use margerine or does it have to be butter>
yes
Oh they are really cute! Nice one and actually not as difficult as you'd think.
We made these at our school in FACS. family and consumer science. She showed us this and we made them ::D they were delecious!
this is adorable, thanks so much for making videos for us! I love watching them! and last nigh I was on a marathon till 5am in the morning! haha
Are these cookies soft and chewy or more on the crunchy side?
What is the purpose of the egg lightly beaten? Is it to prevent over mixing?
oh my gosh they're adorable!!! can't wait to try them!! -love-
my friend is going to love these!!!! So cute!!!!!
You make the cutest cookies!
I just did this for my Dads birthday, only insted of useing Food color i use Jello for the black i did use a little bit of for color. They tasted so good thanks =)
Are there other designs that you could make aside from pandas?? :D Could you make some other designs in future videos? :) (You've just earned yourself another subscriber too!)
is there a way to make these chocolate flavored without giving up the colors?
Can you leave the baking powder out?
Nice work!! They r sooo cute!!!🐼
Did you like these? Would you recommend them? Thanks :)
Tint, colour, dye all means the same thing
this looks like a pretty hard dough to work with, super cute pandas though!
Thank you! I will be making these for my boyfriend on his birthday, pandas are his favorite(:
is there anyway i can make it softer? love ur vids
I made these today. They turned out great! Thanks a lot :)
Could i make them chewy by instead using 1\2 cup of brown sugar and 1\2 cup of granulated sugar?
Yes the taste would change, but they would still be okay
Hi! It is my mom's birthday soon and I really want to surprise her with a yummy creative cake. I was thinking about doing one big cupcake cake and many little cupcakes around. I could not find good tutorials for that and I thought that no one could do it better than you! I REALLY HOPE YOU WILL NOTICE!!!!! I really need your help to make my mommy happy :)
can i use the rainbow cookie recipe for this?
Currently I'm making these cookies, and I found that it is easier to roll out the dough on a plastic bag ( rolling the dough up in it ) because my hands don't tear it apart! (hope that helped)
Could we use a store bought sugar cookie mix?
pandas are one of my favorite animals :)
just made these, they came out sooo cute!!!! great idea thank you so much. tastey too
for the sugar can i use confectioner's sugar?
So cute! :) Is this cookie soft or hard?
everything u make looks so good
Would it still taste like a regular sugar cookie?
