Damn, Marty's 64 it's like he's 24. The same excited kid who watched Porter Wagoneer with his Dad on Saturday afternoon and decided this is what I'm going to do with the rest of my life.
There's only two guys I can think of, Marty, and the other is Dwight Yoakam, that play anything and make it sound great. Country, rock, or bluegrass, they can do it all. What a talent.
I say this with the utmost disrespect to the current crop of "country" music "artists" - pay attention, you pop star wankers, you talentless manufaturers of musical product, you soulless tradespersons, you empty suits under five hundred dollar haircuts... THIS is Country Music - honest, sincere, talented. Three chords and the truth, the man said. Marty gets it. You don't. Great musicianship. Lyrical content beyond "dirt road pickup truck beer ma gal skinny dippin at the pond". SOUL, fer chrissakes.
Marty Stuart is the real Goddamned deal. Long may he run.

Traveled down to Philadelphia MS back in October to see Marty and the Boys at the Ellis. Great show just wished it would've been another hour or so!

Cismic American music, right down to the homage of Sweethearts of the Rodeo album cover. Pretty sure that "drugstore truck driving man" Ralph Emery would have hated it.

Dearest beautiful brilliant good wise and graceful Marty Stuart, I don't feel worthy to even try to describe the immensity of your talent and value to America. You are a singular cosmic force and the most colorful performer I've ever seen. You are a consummate musician and delightful person. You know Marty, I never dreamed that I'd end up being a secretary for the people upstairs but like Leonard Cohen said so well in 'Tower of Song', they kind of tied me to this chair so I guess that's what happens but Jesus awarded you a universe of your own with 5 million souls to seed your own musical kingdom and though I feel humbled to be the one to give you this news I am thrilled at the same time for you. Very few have received this level of recognition so rejoice. I reminded Paul Simon, who also received this award, that souls are multi-dimensional so those with this gift can choose the same person. For instance,, if you choose Dylan and Paul Simon does too, you both will have a genuine version of him. I don't even understand it myself but I would surely rejoice if it happened to me. God bless you my Ultra Great brother in Christ. Others who have received this gift are 'Indigo Girls', a couple of moral philosophers and one or two others so far so it's the greatest of honors.
