The Mi-24V Hind will always be my favorite. It’s just so unapologetically utilitarian, multi-role capable and aggressive looking that it has a beauty entirely its own. I do like ka-50 (the 52 less so). I love the Shkval system and its datalink capability. That with the vihkrs and Shipunov 30mm makes this thing a real monster that can lurk behind trees, buildings and hillsides 4 miles away, fire and then disappear without anyone ever knowing it was there. For those interested in these more modern Russian helo’s, I highly recommend watching the analysis of the battle for Hostomel (antanov) airport. In that battle they seamed to take on a tactical information and attack multirole that transmits data and battlefield info but can also engage and take part in fighting as well. I think it’s pretty interesting, at least for people like us.

The Kamov series helicopters are beast of helicopters . Anti propaganda is doing them so wrong. Ive seen footage of kamovs in Ukraine literally blowing their own tales off, taking direct hit from large caliber auto cannons/machine guns , taking manpads and surviving . The Viktar missiles are more powerful than we realize to, theres footage of them attacking M2-Bradleys ODSAs from over 17km away. And now we're seeing them use the LURMS missile which has 125kg of explosive and 24km range, for comparison the infamous hellfire missiles of the Apache got 7kg of explosive and 12km range. The one thing i can never understand about the KA-50s/52 is why they use the BMP2s' 2A42 cannon in a fixed position, the Mi-28s use the same gun but its fully rotatable and they had a lot of success with it in Syria like how the US uses the apache's 30mm to take out light threats from extreme ranges. The Ka-50 only has one crew so there is nobody to operate the rotating (turreted) 30mm gun, the pilot would be too busy flying the aircraft for that. The Ka-52 however, has a co-pilot seat and does mount a turreted 30mm gun instead of a fixed one.

In dcs, going from aircraft to the KA-50 module is an interesting learning experience, and learning the various quirks of rotor craft in it will always give this one a special place in my heart.
The "Little Bird" as it's so modular, it can be a serious attack helicopter in it's own right with dual Miniguns or rocket pods, or the Navy SEAL's favourite insertion vehicle flown by the Night Stalkers as well as an excellent scout helicopter, the missions they flew in Vietnam are insane! They would hug the jungle canopy close enough to spot individual enemy soldiers for the following AC Cobras to attack, literally looking for lit cigarettes etc.. There's a great documentary on them here on YT. They are also always the classic 'bad guys' helicopter in movies like 'Apache'. For looks alone I'd probably say the Cobra or Viper though.
KA-52 is my favorite. With it's new LMUR missiles which has greater range than hellfire missile and with ATGMs that can be fired from a safe distance from enemy AD. it pretty much outperforms anything US has in my opinion. And proven it's effectiveness pretty well
AH-1Z Cobra. As a Marine in wargames, we had one "Whiskey" sneak up on us at night. It flew down a 60 ft wide 40 ft deep valley AT NIGHT! It popped up 200 feet from us. We only had enough time to look at each other and ask "WTF is that!?" before it popped up out of the darkness. If the OLD one can do that, the newest version must be even better. Plus, it looks awesome.
The Apache is also my favorite attack helicopter, it's my favorite because of the off-bore firing ability, it can carry hellfire's, as well as plenty of other weapon types and of course the chin mounted swivel 30mm bushmaster, which is in my opinion the better setup and the best part, not to mention the "Longbow" version has very powerful radar and sensor abilities!
I love the one that the Air Force HATED, the AH-56 Cheyenne! Granted, we got the A-10 out of that debacle, but the AH-56 would still be flying today if the Army got it! 😭
By far the coolest and deadliest attack helicopter ever made was the prototype that was developed for the CIA back in the 80s based on the Bell 222. Program name was Airwolf.

Hey Matsimus I really enjoyed the video, it was informative and broadly unbiased as always which I really like. The only thing I felt was lacking was the background video for the later part. It felt like I was watching some sort of weird Russian rambo escape scene or something. I dunno if maybe there was not much proper footage of the KA-50 around to use instead but I just felt like it detracted from your normally really high quality feel. Otherwise great video as always.
An idea for next video woud be really interesting to take a look into the resurgence of the light/medium tank design. I don't mean things like the m10 Booker or CV90-120 but vehicles actually classified as a tank like the Harimau / Kaplan MT, ASCOD II, Type 15 etc etc Just a thought as it seems to be growing area of Arms development.
The design of the ka-50 and ka-52 is magnificent. For the ka-50, as a single-seat aircraft it would have deserved a fire-and-forget armament. Current events are having a negative impact on Russian helicopters, but apart from a possible problem of doctrine, let's not forget that Western helicopters have not been used in high-intensity theatres.
my favorite attack helicopter is Lockheed Ah-56 Cheyenne! it was so far ahead of its time and a beautiful design! though, among the production helicopters I definitely have at most respect for Apache, but by my "likeness preference", MIL MI-24/35 is my favorite, because it is the best all-rounder, which even looks like a badass "steampunk" machine and right after that a single-seater Kamov Ka-50, because of its "out of the box" concept....even though they both are not as efficient attack machines as AH-64
The Apache is an outdated airframe that is carried so hard by its avionics and electronic systems. Mechanically and physically, it has nothing on the KA-50/52, which has better performance in every possible aspect. We should copy the design and give it our best electronics.
This is an awesome looking aircraft. I read that these choppers (KA-50 & 52) are very, very noisy due to the twin-rotors. Enemies can hear them coming miles & miles away and often have plenty of time to hide and/or take action.

Favorite Asian ugly duckling: HAL-Prachand So now that I mentioned Almost every wellknown attack helo I'll see myself out....
Apaches are awesome killers, but slow. I really like the stacked rotors design of the Russian KA-50. Lots of guys know the specs so much better than I, but it seems the Russian designs are fast and rugged. They are at least almost as good (maybe better in some ways) than the NATO equivalent, but cost 4x less to make. I think there's some lessons in scalability the Ruskis can teach us.
It might stretch the definition for attack helicopter but the Mil-24. Basically a flying tank. Less capable now but I can only imagine what modern upgraded equivilent would be like. Fear inducing definately.
Just imagine a modern version with upgraded ceramic titanium etc armour and active defense systems to knock down incoming missiles etc. Like it wouldnt hide like other attack helicopters oftern do, it would just be coming straight for you 😅 and god forbid in a pack too.
Pilots burden: Well, despite this now has been fixed by two-seaters, RU even in ther worst times had always a good education as well as many potential material for ther army. And above that we can go a bit dramaturgical and say the're still descendants of horse tribes, so they seem to have a feeling for manouver warfare on land (and almost laughably lack that on the sea ... submarines excluded). So RU air force (almost) always felt pretty safe in having top notch people at hand to shoulder as many tasks as needed. I mean as a funny and probably bit unfair comparison today we have US senat hearings about pilots being inable to understand the pretty basic phenomenon of a paralax, and reveal that they secretly ALL belived to have seen a ton of alien spaceships in ther careers due to that inability. Pretty wild, imho. (It was mostly goose they spoted, btw.) Anyway, SU and RU always have been more based, while the west invested in fancy tech solutions to cope with numerical inferiority. So western designs have been more instabile, while having an edge if ther prefered strategical niche is viable. Now they seem to go for encapsuled electronics that do ther job on ther own, putting the smallest possible burden on the pilots. Jammer, e-warfare, laser softkill and cross-data management f.e. come with pretty small numbers of buttons.
1:43 What the hell are you talking about dude, not significant amount of upgrades for the Kamov combat helicopter platform? Let's see... The Russians created Ka-52 by radically modernizing Ka-50 by adding radar and many more subsystems for an extra crewman/weapons officer. After Ka-52's came the "Katran" naval variant, after Ka-52K "Katran" a new and improved variant called Ka-52M, which is being fielded right now in 2024. LoL
Personally I love the mil mi 24 and 35 if I'm honest the mil 28 is much prettier and capable but lacks the charm of the 24. As for reasons the 24 is so unique in addition to being an extremely capable helicopter today when it first flew not only was it the fastest helicopter in service in the world but it also had the biggest payload capacity for an attack helicopter, and could also serve as troop transport and light cargo heli making it a true multirole hélicoptère being more focused on attack where the mil mi 8 focused more on transport.
Of courseek cooxial rotorcrafts especially made in cccp are faar superior ka52 it's like nissan skyline for me..if I know what I mean Thanks Matsimus , as always
KA50 & 52 are good looking aircraft (especially in the Matt black finish), but number one is the Bell 360 Invictus. I know it’s only a prototype and that it’s a scout helicopter, but damn she’s pretty.
If we ignore the brain dead idiots out of the way who let's face it are hating anything because of their politics that they don't even understand or are just acting in bad faith. This is objectively a very respectable unit in the air and like everything has pros and cons yet it like all others demand respect in the battle space and operations. Though that said I think regardless if we like it or not the future of helicopter is going to leave us some day and thanks to designs and ideas like Osprey we can see why the future of helicopters aren't going to be around forever.
Stealth helicopters will be a night mare for Surface to air missiles like s400 , s500 etc because stealth helicopters can fly low without getting detected by on radar.
The mi-24 is and will always be the most beautiful helicopter ever. The HIND is just cool and a ripper. It drove the soviet afghan war till manpads made it to dangerous. Btw, there were far more soviet and Chinese manpads used compared to stingers. Most jus5 didn’t work…
I don’t know how anyone can claim the AH-64 is overrated. An equally egregious failure is the oversight of the AH-01. I don’t think any nation has the temerity to claim they produce a combat helicopter superior to the United States
KA50 is a formidable attack helicopter. The coaxial rotor allows some interesting advantages. My favourite attack helicopter has to be the AH1 Cobra. I’m so old I’m Vietnam vintage and the Cobra with its gun and rockets offered much needed support to us lowly grunts.
I have to say that I expected you to provide us with a constant stream of commentary apropos the Russo-Ukraine conflict brother. What happened, why are you so quiet?
Despite what some people in the western world might believe about this Helicopter This is a Fine weapon pretty rugged most likely capable of taking some serious damage in the battlefield from small Arms gunfire. Which is good for supporting ground units Now i believe The American raiders Will be leading the way. Depending How capable they might be in heavily gunfire battles.
What is your favorite attack helicopter and why? Let me know!
My favorite Attack helicopter is definitely the American cobra

Favorite American Attack helo: RAH 66 Comanche
Favorite buttugly Attack helo: Apache(not really butt ugly though)
Favorite fictional attack helo: Airwolf, the Lady is just so beautiful.
Favorite buttugly russian: Mi-28, that one is quite ugly, yet not.
Favorite thin as a mint attack helo: AH-1 Supercobra, these are deadly and fit.
Favorite Asian ugly duckling: HAL-Prachand
So now that I mentioned Almost every wellknown attack helo I'll see myself out....
Like a star wars speeder bike or even a jet powered troop transporter
It might stretch the definition for attack helicopter but the Mil-24. Basically a flying tank. Less capable now but I can only imagine what modern upgraded equivilent would be like. Fear inducing definately.
Just imagine a modern version with upgraded ceramic titanium etc armour and active defense systems to knock down incoming missiles etc. Like it wouldnt hide like other attack helicopters oftern do, it would just be coming straight for you 😅 and god forbid in a pack too.
the Mi-24 is an assault helicopter, not attack helicopter
My fav helicopter is the ka-60 kasatka. I saw first in metal gear solid 2
love your content brother,
I like the mi-24 coz it's big and armed.
Pilots burden:
Well, despite this now has been fixed by two-seaters, RU even in ther worst times had always a good education as well as many potential material for ther army.
(It was mostly goose they spoted, btw.)
Anyway, SU and RU always have been more based, while the west invested in fancy tech solutions to cope with numerical inferiority.
I love Russian military designs. Heck even some, albeit a small amount, of Russians are pretty cool. Their Government though? Yeah... no.
At least the government is not a slave to the west
Of courseek cooxial rotorcrafts especially made in cccp are faar superior ka52 it's like nissan skyline for me..if I know what I mean
Thanks Matsimus , as always
8:27 *[AIRWOLF THEME INTENSIFIES]*
Fun fact: the CH-47 is faster than a AH-64 Apache 🙃
@_Matsimus_ How does Black shark fare during night operations against overhyped Apache?
KA50 & 52 are good looking aircraft (especially in the Matt black finish), but number one is the Bell 360 Invictus. I know it’s only a prototype and that it’s a scout helicopter, but damn she’s pretty.
Russian copters are awesome and just looks cool. Especially the KA-52 after hearing what European volunteers and Ukrainian soldiers says about it.
Most jus5 didn’t work…
Hello.
Just to mention - this aircraft can fly on the left or onthe right with 90 km/h .
I have a kitten with same nose, but she doesn't move around the yard trying to take out the others
We all know it's the hind...former Augusta waistland employee😅 here
NEW MATSIMUS POST FUCK YEAH
❤❤❤
And have a fast ammunition reload platform to run back and forth for attack
Love these old school style Matsimus documentaries. Chef's kiss looks pretty gay in emojis so here's a 👍!
The gun is actually on the right hand side of it not underneath its Nose
any super cobra model
Is the footage used from some Russian helicopter-action film?
New Super cobra has more offense!
Mi-24, Mi-35 What about new Mi, Mi-28 "Hunter" ??? Some say Technically better on front than Ka-52 ??? Who better Mi-28 or Ka-52???
What happened, why are you so quiet?
do you really believe the russian helicopters don't receive any upgrades?
Despite what some people in the western world might believe about this Helicopter This is a Fine weapon pretty rugged most likely capable of taking some serious damage in the battlefield from small Arms gunfire. Which is good for supporting ground units Now i believe The American raiders Will be leading the way. Depending How capable they might be in heavily gunfire battles.
Ka50 & ka 52
Mi-35
My favorite heli is the king Raven from gears of war⚙️⚙️⚙️
Great video, now to watch the navel gun video 😊
