@@thomaschadwick1557 More Russian? Can it fly on vodka for fuel? :P Just kidding. Yeah the workload for one pilot in the KA-50 was too high especially with the addition of new ECM and sensor upgrades that required a second set of eyes to manage all of that equipment. Still....the KA-50 looked a lot more aggressive. BTW, I don't think they added any armor upgrades as that would significantly increase the weight. The only additional armor is likely to be mainly what was added to protect the 2nd additional crew-member. That alone would have added substantial weight along with the additional ejection system that the KA-50/52 series are famous for.

I would love to see a video comparing the Mi-28 to the Ka-50 which demonstrates why the Ka-50 was considered better by the analysts. They both cost about the same but the Mi-28 carries more surface to ground missiles, is a slightly faster than the Ka-50, and can extract 3 soldiers in an emergency. It also appears to have more armor than the Ka-50, but statistics about the armor are hard to find for obvious reasons.
ka-52 had greater ejection system, shooting the main rotor blades away and catapulting pilots up in their seats in childhood I watched some futuristic helicopter in a children encyclopedia on all types of army vehicles, and they had that picture of the unreal helicopter, how surprising for me it was to find that it's my own country's attack helicopter which is a successor to my favourite helicopter
Western toys have quite classic beauty silhouettes. Russian toys however look crude and raw, and this raw power look has some specific kind of beauty in it.

@@midgetman4206 same deal with me, but I'm more Russian biased. I love American tech and vehicles, but I always hate those damn free-a-boos when they believe that they are invincible
I’ve always admired Russia’s push to allow pilots to ditch their military helicopters , whether the rotor detaching system /ejection seat of the Aligator or this system bailing out the side, the bottom line is the crash suspension or box like the Apache is a joke cause such a large number of career ending injuries most commonly to the spine of the crew. The survival and Injury rations of crashing helicopters is very largely lopsided to Russian helos with a survivability rate that’s nearly perfect opposed to the large number of crews lost or severely injured in Apache impacts.
Something similar applies to Russian ground armored vehicles, the advice of commanders is if you get stuck or it gets damaged, just get out and get a new one, don’t stick around and die in it, you are worth more than the machine.

Matsimus, got an interesting one for you. The difficulties of gyro stabilized weaponry mounted at multiple points of a bipedal mechanized combat machine and why it would or would not work (such as conflicts between the gyros stabilizing the machine in contrast to those stabilizing the weapons separately).
@Armadio the issue is that a gyro that supports the machine's own upright nature and gyros for separate weapons equipped on turrets or limbs would likely conflict with one another. If this big one is pulling this way to maintain balance while this other one is trying to keep a weapon turret on target as the machine is struggling to regain balance and that direction necessary to keep the weapon upright goes against the direction to restore balance to the machine.... Reason I brought it up is someone I spoke with believes everything out there has gyro stabilized weaponry and doesn't see why a bipedal humanoid combat machine wouldn't have gyros for the weapons themselves.
Vikhr missiles can also be used against air targets (planes and choppers). However, there are limitations; velocity of the aircraft you are shooting at. If it exceeds certain speed (I don't remember how fast it is), then forget it. But still, enemy helicopters and maybe attack planes at low speed...
Iam an iraqi 7 years ago we had a festival a big one so instead of sending some tv helicopters to watch the people instead they sent an mi28 it was flying above my head the 12 years old me was jumping in happiness!
I find it interesting that the exhaust is designed to exit downwards with the addition of air coming in from the front to help cool it. I wonder if that's really enough to keep it safe from anything but gen 1 IR missiles, can air coming from the front be enough to really cool the exhaust? I'd think that pushing the exhaust upwards to be dispersed by the main rotor might work better, but it's certainly better than the old Hinds with exhaust venting to sides and back of the aircraft.
I think you’ve got it wrong, this was the main Russian gunship alongside the mil mi-24 Hind until the ka-52 arrived in the late 90s. Ka-50 with its single seat became a scout helicopter, built in small numbers. Only in 97 or 98 Russia started production of ka-52 in serious numbers. I believe only 30 or so ka-50 were ever produced. Today more than 100 are in service of both mil 28 and ka-52s
Cool to learn more about one of my all time favorite instruments of death, kinda surprised your videos don't use some RTS game footage, specifically the Wargame trilogy especially for the gun ships.
The hull the Mi-28 is more armored, and the canopy on the Apache is much larger and more vulnerable than the small windows on the Havoc. The Apache was designed to be resilient to 23mm as that was the most common Soviet AAA size but the Soviets upgraded near the end of the cold war to 30mm, which the Havoc was designed to resist. This doesnt mean they are immune to such rounds.
The reason I say the ah 64 apache is better... is because the gun is is what makes an attack helo in my opinion ... ah 64= 1200rds of 30mm and the mi 28= 250rds of 30mm and the combat range is 240nm on the ah 64 and 110 on the mi 28 but other then that there almost = to each other.... it's deadly for sure
@@ah64dbeast37 the gun really means little. If an attack helicopter is getting to within gun range its doing something wrong. In a war against a peer opponent you are crazy to get within 2-3kms. Its fine when you are flying over 3rd world countries who can barely fight back but all that ammo counts for nothing really. The Havoc's gun is actually better. Both have about the same range though the Havocs combat range is less - it carries much more firepower and armor which makes it heavier
When bringing up Apache casualties to small arms, remember that tanks don't get deployed against infantry on their own because they can be taken out by RPG's or other methods. Apache like the Havoc are anti-vehicle, anti-tank with the Apache being able to survive 23mm hits to the crew and engine sections.
And there was also the case around Baghdad where a whole flight of Apaches were repelked by nothing more than lots and lots of guys with Kalashnikov rifles.
i noticed that they think a lot on pilot safry in thier attack crafts the K 52 has ejection seats, seems like a nice thing to have our western crafts should learn a bit from them on this front.
The best helicopter of BF2. It was heavier and a little slower than the cobra but made up for all that in absolute firepower and stability. Score wise, it ran circles around the US counterpart and with a ace pilot (me) and ace gunner (my friend) it would beat anything in the game, including fighter jets.
I'm glad to see people give credit to BF2. The Refractor engine made vehicle combat a thousand times more fun than Frostbite and achieved full potential with BF2 mods that experimented with asymmetric warfare and more depth. I remember the helos a bit differently, though. The Cobra was faster, had a smaller hitbox and was more fun to roll and throw around tight passages. The Havoc was slow, had a bigger hitbox, but better turn right. The biggest difference was that while the Cobra's 20mm gun was good, you had to hit infantry with it almost directly whereas the Havoc's 30 mm gun had large area of effect. Each round almost had the explosive power of a grenade. Because DICE refused to move forward with the series and instead dragged it down to compete with CoD, I switched to Arma and never looked back.
Ya know honestly, this is a very very capable monster /attack helicopter heavily armored insanely potent , fast, reliable, pilot emergency egressing , amazing tech and sensors and one of my favorite aspects, the left side access to the engine /systems area was adjusted in design where there is a good amount of room and ample power, they realized they could comfortable fot 5-7 full kit soldiers in the mechanical area and also the large Hollow tail actually is used to allow two soldiers laying down . It’s so smart they made it a transport area, or was already there, the access also, it’s fully armored already to protect all the critical systems and required NO changing of structure to accommodate the men, 5-7 is sufficient for a Special Forces team , a reconosamce team, the most capable rescue helicopter for troops left behind or rescue operations being used often as an assault ship but also a medevac helicopter that’s actually armored and deadly , intimidating helicopter when’re dripping or picking up soldiers the helmet controlled turret cannon and other systems can put the enemy’s heads down while picking up or dropping. The Blackhawk is a bullet magnet with no armor and has more injuries from small arms fire , the help can carry the same amount of troops into combat and do it safely and intimidating, the enemy also doesn’t know reinforcements are aboard, they see this comming and run . They added a fast rope system for dropping teams where the door opens the rope is pushed out and already attached to a heavy pin , when the last soldier makes it to the ground the pilot or gunner pulls a lever that releases the pin dropping the rope and closes the door. The crew seats are like modern IED APC suspension seats protecting hard landings as well as suspension for the wheels allowing the helo to put down fast of needs be and then the ditch system for the crew on the emergent, several times the armor of an Apache for the crew , essentially a Am A10 armored tub but with ballistic glass too. And lastly it’s a FEACTION. Of the cost of an Apache , it’s cheaper by far than even the Cobra . I truly wish we’d just buy a crap load of these. We could apply our sensors if wanted and aside from that seems to be better in every way and a hell of a lot cheaper. Lastly,
You mentioned that you had never heard of helicopters laying mines. Check out the U.S. Volcano mine laying system. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volcano_mine_system
The west has the AH APACHE.russia has a god tier AH.ive looked into the specs of this beast, this a.h helo is amazing.the up to date version is brilliant.this beast can out turn most helo at speed.we got a the Apache D(uk army )but we are upgrading to the E model in next few years, the E model apache is a lot better then the helo covered in this video.but I still think the AH havoc is brilliant
You forgot a huge plus, or can transport 5-7 full kit soldiers in the mechanical systems /maintenance can. The doors on the left side behind the wing, it’s heavily armored capsule to protect the vital components engine and systems . You can stand up straight in the main area and then the hollow tail is regularly used for two soldiers sitting or laying down. There’s communications system to the pilot and Co pilot, medical equipment and a fast rope detacjeable by the pilot . There’s no better special forces insertion helicopter in my opinion than this heavily armored , heavily weoponized all weather beast. Why better rescue helicopter go lay hate down while picking up a team or injured soldier behind enemy lines. It’s also very A10 like where the flight systems are all so heavily armored it can take heavy fire even the rotors are a composite that can take fire.
from myself I would like to add that the advantages of this helicopter can be: survivability of mechanisms, protection of pilots and relative cheapness. From cons can be point to the, that his weaponry is outdated, namely ATGM 2 th generation need to wage the fire laser, when these missiles hellfire can work on the principle of "shot and forgot about goal", his 30-mm gun is far from perfection and she loses on accuracy and number of ammunition the same gun, that established on AH-64. as for the rescue from the downed helicopter is a very bad idea not everyone can escape, well proven KA 52 with its ability to eject to the top, which will help to escape at low altitude. The army lacks an option with radar and equipment for night hunting (due to the lack of funding). The conclusion of the helicopter is quite good, but requires modernization and funding. (I write through the translator, do not judge strictly for grammar errors)
@@vijayaravi8 the new upgraded version is, but in the army they are not so much, they just buy in a limited series (because there is little money and equipment, respectively, is not enough)
I was wondering about the escape mechanism myself. If the helo begins to rotate i cant imagine both men escaping. That would be alot of G's for the guy on the wrong side to overcome
Empty weight: 8,590 kg (18,938 lb) equipped Gross weight: 10,700 kg (23,589 lb) Max takeoff weight: 11,500 kg (25,353 lb) Bruh 7800kg is not even a empty weight 😅
It would be interesting to revisit the reviews you have done and reflect on your excellent views on the Ukrainian War experience with the Havoc and other Russian ground vehicles as well Matt.
I’m not sure too much is going to change. The one thing that might would be the T64 and T80 getting placed under the T72 given those are Ukraine‘s primary tanks versus Russia’s primary tank, yet the Russians wiped their floor with the Ukrainians despite having the inferior tank. The other major thing which might change my opinion would be this assessment of the 2S7 Peony. Matt assessed it as a bit clunky and cumbersome, and pretty much out obsolescenct, but it’s work against even the newest western artillery, even with rocket and guided shells, has been of undeniable utility; there is absolutely nothing in the western arsenal that competes with the range and power of the 203mm systems.
@@Mortablunt dude what are you even on? (Not to mention it is absolute leagues more accurate compared to the 2s7)
To be honest, i think Ka-50/52 is a better helicopter. Coaxial rotors are more effective than main and tail rotors and the helicopter won't go down after losing the tail. Ka-50/52 have actual ejection seats. At 9:19 it's visible how recoil of the Mi-28's cannon affects the sight. Ka-50/52 doesn't have that problem.

@Armadio *Gyros
I dont understand a word you said but what i do know is the british warrior IFV still doesnt have a stabilized cannon. Hahahahahaha

Their big brother Mr.Hind is one scary SOB too. Have two of them come in on my armored OP by OP Romeo back in 84.

Cool to learn more about one of my all time favorite instruments of death, kinda surprised your videos don't use some RTS game footage, specifically the Wargame trilogy especially for the gun ships.
I think the AH-64 Apache is even more heavily armored than this; it's supposed to have armor glass on all canopy segments, not just the front.
Mi 28 is more armoured than the Apache i.redd.it/gk59rpnz5y031.png
The Apache is much less armoured in any aspect. It doesn't even have bulletproof glasses

Ударил по хвосту и броня не спасет

@@BlueTeam-John-Fred-Linda-Kelly helicopters blades are jetisoned with explosive bolts. Then pilot is ejected and chute automatically deployed.
In BF2, It's like you shoot hand grenades at the enemies lol.
FINALLY!!!! ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!!
The very high pitch angle of the Blades makes them look a dragonfly like to me.
Lastly,
Look at that beauty
The front/face of this helicopter, especially when seen on the ground like in 17:21 reminds me a lot of Mater from Cars. The animated movies.

Ролик как всегда на высоте. Супер!!!
from myself I would like to add that the advantages of this helicopter can be: survivability of mechanisms, protection of pilots and relative cheapness.
