In 1998, in our town (Lensk, Sakha, Yakutia, Russia) there was a large flood and we were evacuated to a neighboring city on a Mi-26 of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Several buses fit into one flight, more than a hundred people, then they said that there were about 200 people, but I can't say for sure. And Mi-8 helicopters in those days were flying over the city like flies, delivering supplies and evacuating people from any more suitable site.

@@bradenhagen7977 I believe it was heavily misused, or that the Russians have yet to advance their doctrine to match the performance of their newer aircrafts. A strong argument can be made against the Ka-52 and Ka-50 as they have been shot down by Soviet Igla from the 1970s during the battle for Hostomel Airport.
Most of their utility helicopters have served other countries very well like the Mi-8/17 and Mi-24 as a general workhorse and is very well liked in the international market.
Russia kind of suck at building the doctrine for dedicated attack rotary wing assets as it put a lot of them in dangerous range of MANPADS. Other countries have used Russian aircrafts much more successfully than Russia have in war which is very ironic.

I mean I knew it was huge and its lifting capabilities were unmatched but they actually put a 4x4 UAZ van inside the cargo bay for display and there was still space for couple of dozen fully equipped soldiers left! And to put it into perspective, they parked a Mi-1 heli right next to it, so it looked like this :)

In the firefighting version the water bucket carries 15000 Kg of water. That is more than the water carried by two CL-415s. The internal bay is 11m Long + 3m in the ramp, 2.9m wide and 2.7m high. The helicopters internal and external cargo capacity is 20000Kg (normal) and up to 25000Kg (max) and it's range with full fuel tanks is 800Km (500miles) and 1920Km with 4 additional fuel tanks. The normal cargo capacity is about the same as that of a C-130.

Dear Matsimus, when you have a video that has a lot of numbers, consider using infographics, charts and graphs and comparison tables (e.g. Mi-26 vs other heavy lift helis vs regular helis).
Citing lots of numbers purely in audio, and talking fast too, is confusing.

Vietnam PAF saw intensive use of Mil Mi-6 in the war to relocate MiG-21 fighter to temporary runway outside of Noi Bai. The old historical runway is still there with all the waiting station for fighters etc. Mil Mi-6 is still in use there, there was an accident a few years back that take the life of ~20 paratroopers, that push them to switching to the Mil-28 platform

Can you please do a episode related to Norwegian armed forces, despite all your content, it seams like you haven't covered anything related. There is a lot to cover... for example.
-The collision between KNM Helge Ingstad and the supertanker Sola, The Friggate Helge Ingstad sunk and a huge salvation project is now ongoing.
    - Modearnisation and expansion.
    - 120 new Cv-90.
    - 52 new F35.
    - 20 NH90 helicopters.
    The list goes on.
I wish you a happy new year, greeting from Norway.

Did fly in one, it was in 1993 in Bosnia, the Sergeant major went to the cockpit and was back in a sec and he was shocked. I looked at him en said, i gone check i it out to but he said no, don't the pilots are drunk. I went anyways and indeed the pilots were drunk , lot of the flying instruments were missing and in one place was a bottle. they offer me a drink and ik took a sip (was just water). they just pulled a joke on us but i played along. later mid flight something dropped on the ground one techguy came around and picked it up, looked at it, looked up and then at us. he said in his best English " Is bolt, not good, we fly" . the Sergeant major became a bit sick and put his head between his legs, me trying not to laugh cos i saw the technician and both pilots double up with laughter. I also spotted some bullet holes and i'm not sure if they technician trow a bolt to fuck us up or it was a small bullet, they didn't care

Here is another story from not so long ago...we were flying with family to Thailand, when in the middle of the flight one of the pilots came to the salon and started to brake the floor with tools, and atart to "fix" things, another pilot shouted: "So what is it? Are we gonna make it?!" He answered: "How the fuck I suppose to know?!!!!". It was funny. He fixed it. B.T.W. I belive that Leo Dicaprio had a similar story on a russian plane, check the vid)) ruclips.net/video/fNJI2A0v8yI/видео.html

In the US & Canada, private firefighting companies use modified planes and jets to drop water on wildfires. Canada built the famous CL-215 & CL415 which is in service today. During wildfire season, I could see where the MI-26 could be a welcomed addition in fighting fires. With the ability to fill up from a lake which isn't too big to allow for scooping, I would guess this could pick up perhaps 6,000 gallons at once. The Beriev 200 amphibious jet could also be a good addition to any firefighting contractor. This helicopter could serve a lot of needs to companies and governments here in the West.
