I had found an old Super Console X at a garage sale for a dollar and was having a blast until the MicroSD card died. This video was the only tutorial I followed that worked 100%, all the way through, and didn't involve weird Chinese-English disk software! Thank you 👍
I know this video is a little old, but I just want to thank you for doing this. I totally messed up my Super Console X a few days ago, but this video got it back up and running. That Danger Zone is no joke haha.
I am delighted with my X console! I highly recommend it to any Retro video gamer! I only recommend you get better controllers using the USB plug as the included ones have issues IMO. Peace!
Hi! The device just arrived and ...well, it's great. Only a question: i'd like to play Atari Jaguar on it but i see that the Jaguar Core is not on the default Retroarch core list. I connected the device to Internet via wi-fi but in Retroarch i can't see the option to download the Jaguar core...maybe can I add it manually somehow? Thanks a lot ;-)
Secure all your files before doing it! The Failure Rate is extremely high and the publisher doesn't recommend an update. But when it works, it's awesome.
These instructions are leaving a lot of us stuck on the "Powered by Andorid" startup screen. I spent more time than I care to admit learning about this, and I ended up just buying my own Android box with better specs. I got that up and running with EmuElec 4.0 first try, so I'm pretty sure I'm not doing anything wrong. It has all the characteristics of a mismatch or invalid dtb for the S905M chip in the SC-X. I tried about 20 different dtb files from both EmuElec 3.9 and 4.0, and they all left me stuck on the startup screen. Never once did it get to the EmuElec screen.
It could be that they are mixing the boards of the consolex, or that the microsd is fake. You should be able to use the original dtb from your stock card. To see what the board is, let android boot without the microsd in, then install the android apk aida64. Check the cpu revision id , memory, and what is written. This should help diagnose.
Thanks for the offer, but the SC-X I got comes with some stripped down thing called "Hoolay Mod" completely in Chinese. I managed to change it to English, but there's no way to log into a Google account to install any apps. It just has the Libretro/Lakka launcher app on the homescreen along with a couple of media apps (MediaBox, I think). About the useful info I can find in settings is: Model number: HoolayMod for Amlogic s905 Family Ott Stb Android version: 4.4.2 Kernel version: 3.14.29 root@ubuntu #1 Software Version Number: SNDS Ver G1.0.01 By Mr. Hoolay
@@TeamPandory Also, same problem with a different SD card straight from Samsung. In any case, I'm not even mad since the roms and bios files alone were worth the price of the SC-X. Made setting up my new box very easy. Looking back, I should have cloned the entire SD card from the SC-X and not just backed up the roms/bios.
@@squareandrare okay. Can you perhaps download the apk I mentioned on a pc via pure apk website, then install it from a usb stick via the installer in android ? I've a feeling some shops are being even dirtier than usual with their business practices and I'd like to make a video regarding it, if the box is indeed a standard 905 (or something not advertised )
There is also one more option. Get the apk (from pureapk) titled [root] libreelec (reboot from android tv) This basically allows microsd with systems on to boot up. The 905m I have also has the hoolaymod so I don't think that is the issue.
I've reset my Retrostation 14k so many times from tinkering with it too much, and now there's not enough space to download themes, etc. Is there a temporary file that's taking up space? I mounted the card using Linux for Windows and Storage says there's only 121mb free out of 116gb, yet the roms are 113gb. The Restation drive shows 27mb of 719mb free.I haven't added anything, all I've done is reset the system to default numerous times. Do you have any videos or suggestions?
I've been trying to create a microSD with EmuElec 3.9 as an exercise before I buy an Android TV box and turn it into an emulation box. I have a Super Console X Pro and I can simply get the BIOS, ROMs from the Console's microSD and use those in the new microSD. However, my question is, should I scrape from scratch on the new microSD or can I lift those scraped items off the Console's microSD and transfer those to the new microSD? Thanks in advance.
Hello. I recently got a Super Console X Stick. I tried to update the firmware from 3.9 to 4.1 and I messed it up. I have a back up of my roms but the unit refuses to boot. Can you help me with instructions to fix it?
Check the emuelec install guide video we made- that should bring you up to speed. AFAIK you need the s905x 2GB dtb which will be in the devicetrees folder.
Is this like an important update that needs to be done at some point or is it just optional? Will it run my games slower over time if I choose not to update?
For the Super Console X, it doesn't need to be done- but for the future of EmuElec- yes, this had to be done. It's a jump from 32bit to 64bit- allowing newer cores/ emulators, - also faster emulation. Unfortunately having 1gb ram, it limits this machine somewhat.
Anyone else having issues? I updated as the vid tutorial instructed and everything looks to have gone ok. However it seems to keep freezing when going through the games menus? It’s done it a few times now? Also, when you quit a game via hot keys, it exits straight to retro arch rather than the games menu?
EmuElec 4.0 needs a LOT more memory. - You could try changing the theme to see if you can lighten that up. Which hot-key do you use to quit game? I think hot key and start, twice should work.
I usually use select and start twice to exit but it exits straight into retro arch soon on the first press of start for some reason when usually it asks you to confirm you want to exit. My memory card does seem to be very nearly full. Could deleting some games maybe help with the memory issue?
@@TeamPandory After updating to 4.0, be VERY careful with themes. Some downloadable themes will make the system freeze immediately, to the point where you can't even change back to another theme, because it freezes when you attempt to do so. The best theme with 4.0 seems to be the "Clean" one. It will make the system freeze up less frequently than the other options. It still happens, but not as frequently as with Carbon and others, so it's a fairly acceptable solution.
Hi there, awesome video. Am using the Super console x (not the pro) is there anyway of adding Emulators to it? Specifically Saturn or Jaguar. Have tried multiple times but just doesn't work. Any advice, I'd be extremely grateful.
Ah yeah. Was gonna get to a Saturn guide this week but got sidetracked, sorry. The system may be able to handle a few games but the 3d based ones you can forget.

@@franswap-g2522 Is this EmuELEC 3.9 or 4.0? And what system are you installing to? The Console X or Console X Pro? --- You shouldn't format- or need to do so. EmuElec sorts all this for you, and prepares all the folders for you. You may need to flash emuelec on the card again.
I tried to use this method to install 3.9 on a 512GB card. I'm able to flash the right image, add back the dtb image file, and the sytem formats the card as needed to boot. I have to send my Super Console X-Pro system back because it wasn't functioning properly. First, once I configured my controllers in the controller configuration settings, the system didn't allow me to reconfigure the controllers. As a matter of fact, the settings menu seized working: I couldn't get the menu to come up anymore. Second, when I would start playing a game from any of the emulators, the system wouldn't allow for me to go to another game without having to cut off the entire device, and restart it just to play another game. In like manner, I read reviews where one guy experienced the same problem. So, if there's a way to change to other games without having to cut the game console off/on, feel free to lend that information. Lastly, the SD card or the Super Console X-Pro system itself started causing the games to appear on the screen beyond the size of my TV screen. In other words, the images were expanded on my TV screen where the images of the entire system, except for the Android box feature without the chip, didn't fit the TV screen like when someone zooms in on an image at the max zoom in capacity. Anyway, I have to send it back because I am not familiar with how I should trouble shoot the system, and for some reason people who bought this Super Console X-Pro system seem to not be able to get in touch with a customer service representative from the seller.
You cannot expect a system like this to have every game fully configured for you. There are ways to solve all of the issues you experienced yourself, but it requires a little effort on your part to do so. 1. Configure the controller in the emuelec main screen, also have a HOT KEY set. If you don't have enough buttons, use select. 2. In game, push your set HOT KEY and also the button you set for NORTH (triangle on a PS pad) to get to the RetroArch screen. Here you can change settings like screen, controllers etc- and also exit out. HOT KEY and start twice will also allow you to exit your game and return you to the main games list menu.
For one, comprehend what someone is saying first before you comment or speak to someone in a form of intellectual insult. Next, I made it very clear in all humility, what "my personal experience" was with the Super Console X-Pro system I purchased, from the seller I purchased it from. Does it mean that the gaming system itself is entirely bad? No. Still, I've read reviews from other people who had their share of difficult experiences with the Super Console X-Pro system from both the system itself, and the seller they purchased it from. For example, 1) the seller I bought my Super Console X-Pro system from was from China; 2) the number that the seller sent me to call if I experienced any issues, was a non-working number; 3) the manual that came with the Super Console X-Pro system I purchased only had information on how to change the language in the system "settings," and how to configure the controllers.... that's it. The instructions manual didn't point out other issues such as reconfiguration, switching to other games without having to cut the game off/on, and how to get the game images to fit the size of my TV screen or reconfigure it to the size of my TV screen when a situation like that happens. Notwithstanding, I made it very clear that I was not technically savy as to how I should go about trouble shooting the issues I was having. And any supporting information was acceptable. Indeed, I went to as many youtube videos that I felt could potentially help me find a solution for the problems I was having with my Super Console X-Pro system, but none of the youtube videos I viewed expressed anything concerning the assistance I needed. Nevertheless, for what it's worth, I appreciate what information you did give that could possibly be beneficial to me in the future when I repurchase the Super Console X-Pro system, but from a different distributor, and seller.
@@ShawnMichaelVincentIngram no need for any drama here. I'm not going to bother getting into an argument. - if you think you can get more help from the guys making these boxes- then good luck. All work is ripped off from emuelec- and these guys need all the praise.

Great video and thanks I’m pretty keen on getting a super console x pro 256 gb maybe? Is it worth the cash and also do you need to update the firmware from out of the box? Wireless keyboard needed too or can do without thanks for video.

Thank you very much for this video!! I know I'm not the first one and will not be the last who felt helpless when the stock sd card beame unbootable. Hello! Nice video, but, even if I have followed your instructions step by step, it didn’t work: the console remains frozen on the white splash screen before the emuelec logo appears! What do you think is the problem?
If you have issues before emuelec even starts, then I think it could be either 1. Fake sized microsd (check people!) 2. Wrong dtb file 3. Wrong image burnt onto the microsd 4. Libreelec root apk needs to be started (for devices not already "activated".. applies to new tv boxes)
@@TeamPandory It is a Super Console X, with emuelec 3,9... and by the way I don’t understand why the online update feature seams to work but actually it doesn’t...

I wish it was possible to install EmuElec 4.3 on the Super Console X Pro. Why would 4.0 be the last possible update for it. Perhaps so that we have to buy the newer model that comes with 4.3 pre-installed. But then will that one be limited to 4.3 and not be able to udate to 4.4?
What? No. The developers of emuelec want to go 64 bit regarding their software, leaving behind the legacy architecture. This requires far more memory and a bit more juice than the old system. They don't care about these systems at all, they don't get any profits from you purchasing them as they are getting totally ripped off for their work. Best thing you can do is get a clean 922x system like the n2+, and start to support their work on Patreon

Also I try to add the unzipped files for same game for MAME and it does not register at all. Is it possible some MAME games would better work being put into the Final Burn or Arcade folder instead?
Dynamite cop will bug out mostly due to the mali 450 gpu. You need to use flycast / naomi folder. You may be able to have less glitches using the xtreme flycast core, but the better way to play this may be to either update to a 905x3 (see our review) or a mini pc

Sounds like you corrupted your sdcard.. Rule of thumb- never pull the power from anything unless you can "safely remove" or "shut down" before. Try it in your computer again- If it's a console x pro, you should have another 4gb microsd in the pack with a way to recover your microsd boot files if something goes wrong. There's a video on their youtube if you take a look.
If it's not booting, it sounds like you have the wrong version of emuelec or dtb, or have a poor quality microsd. Would need more info in order to help I'm afraid.

I installed this because the crappy card that came with the console broke after a week or so. Should I do this all over again, but install 3.9 instead? Thank you!
For the Console X, I'd recommend sticking with 3.9 if you want to use PSP / Naomi / Dreamcast - 1GB RAM simply isn't enough for the 64bit version of EmuElec. If you want to use PS1 swanstation- then yes, 4.0 Remember you can have two cards with both systems. There's nothing really stopping you.
The super console x is incompatible with 4.0 abs you should NOT update the pro version to 4 - new ones come with a printed warning on them confirming this.
Depends on the board, and if it can be rooted. Arcade box manufacturers tend to side on "security", and if they block the ability to run an alternative OS off a microsd, or USB, then this whole thing isn't possible unless you can alter the current system that is in place. Right here is some information if your device fails to install EMUELEC 4.0, the file "gxbb_p200_1G_100M_RealtekWiFi.dtb" in the device_trees folder is corrupt somehow, but if you have a version from 3.9 copy this over and it should work fine.
@@TeamPandory Super Console X, looking at the EMUELEC 4 information it's says it's the Amlogic 905L, not the 905, I'm not sure if this was the issue, but like I said I used the 3.9 file and all is well, I would rather tell the viewers and just leave it just in case they have the same issue, my machine was manufactured in October 2020, so they could be running out of that chip as it was a 2015-2016 I would like to get hold of a machine that uses the S905X4 but still is compatible with EMUELEC?
@@jasonhowells7974 super console x should be the 905m. Currently there's no true way of running a 905x4 with emuelec, better to get a cheap 905x3 box at the moment like the makeup box we reviewed

Good video. Any chance you would know why my roms folder does not show when plugging into pc? Only shows emulec but not the roms partition. (This is after first boot)
So this is after you booted emuelec once, yeah ? It could be that the pc is not mounting it and giving it a letter. You can check by clicking right mouse on my computer, manage, then find your microsd ... Select the fat32 partition on it then assign it a letter. I've been having this issue every now and then but assumed it was something else (mainly windows being nonsensical )
I have a problem with my super console x. I tried to reinstall the system as indicated by retro rays but now the screen is stuck on "powered by andorid". I followed your tutorial but it still doesn't work. I was passed an sd card from another super console x but still the same problem. Do you have any idea of the problem?
I think I did everything correctly, but the system only recognizes games from 2 systems (Atari and Ports) none of the other roms visible, anyone have any thoughts recommendations. Everything else seems to have updated as it should have.
If upon restarting the system *or updating the games list* you don't have any roms visible- you should check if they've actually copied correctly or not. If the system cannot see the game files, then the system won't show.
Thx for this video, but I followed everything you stated and my screen won’t move on to the EmuELEC screen to boot up properly, I recently when an bought a fresh new 64gb SD card and it won’t make it pass the validation when using the flash program. Any tips bro? And again thank you!
Both SD cards passed the test, still won’t make it pass the “powered by Android” screen. Tried going back to 3.9, still won’t boot. Have you turned on bezels on the menu screen ? Mvc for naomi or dreamcast? If emulators are crashing, it's due to the larger memory usage of emuelec 4. You want to turn things off to get the more demanding things running.
@@manmano1262 turn off bezels, etc. There's only so much you can do . If mvc2 has issues, try removing the .nvram and .eeprom files (there are smaller files next to it in the folder.). This may help your issue.

About the useful info I can find in settings is:
Model number: HoolayMod for Amlogic s905 Family Ott Stb
Android version: 4.4.2
Kernel version: 3.14.29 root@ubuntu #1
Software Version Number: SNDS Ver G1.0.01 By Mr.

There is also one more option.
Get the apk (from pureapk) titled [root] libreelec (reboot from android tv)

@@dinoignacio Awesome! It's great to see you have it sorted.

@@Kal-El83 could be. Check in retroarch settings ... You may have enter retroarch set to start and select.

What? No. The developers of emuelec want to go 64 bit regarding their software, leaving behind the legacy architecture. This requires far more memory and a bit more juice than the old system.
Man, you're a retro genius! 🤓👍

If it's not booting, it sounds like you have the wrong version of emuelec or dtb, or have a poor quality microsd. Would need more info in order to help I'm afraid.

This has been covered in the comments. I think it's an issue with 4k TVs- but try this- take out the microsd, turn on the console- boot up to android. Then change the resolution here to 1080p. Try then to restart with the microsd

Depends on the board, and if it can be rooted.
