Thats fantastic your garden was safe, here in Belfast it reached 65mph winds, it was crazy, we were very lucky here as there was no damage to our polytunnel, but we did have our heavy black bin fly right over the roof of our polytunnel and miraculously missing it and landing by our back gate, it would have been disastrous if the bin had hit the polytunnel, our next door neighbour had his lovely big shed flattened by falling roof tiles from his house, they have forecast another storm this evening but its not meant to be as bad thnak goodness, your garden and cacti are all so beautiful, thanks so much for sharing the update with us and sending lots of PLANT POWER from Belfast to Yorkshire XXXX

I really hate the wind, looks like everything held up well, good job.

Feels like the weather this winter has been particularly volatile - endless storms punctuated by freezing temps for days on end. Roll on spring!

Was pretty brutal here on outskirts of Glasgow! Had one fence panel with most of the slats ripped out it and a couple of overhead palm shelters obliterated 😢 at least the greenhouse & trampoline survived 😂 we were on an Amber warning for winds up to 90mph

Yeah sounds you got the worst of it up there! What are your palm shelters made out of? And which palms are you growing?

@greatnorthernexotic hi mate shelters were nothing extravagant just 4 dahlia stakes driven into the ground with a waterproof tarp over the top! 1 out of 3 of them survived the winds! The latest storm proved too much for them. Got them covering 2 canary date palms plus a washy, the date palms were fleeced due to constant minus temps we were getting here but look OK. The washy on the other hand looks fried tho lol

@@stephenkeeble6857 washies are borderline by all accounts - mine seems fine under the shelter but I don't think it's long-term prospects are great anywhere beyond London or the southwest.

@greatnorthernexotic 100% mate,i think ones you can buy over here locally are sourced from places like Italy that actually get a decent amount of heat! 🤔🫣
