My basjoo are of a similar height to yours own. They are in fairly large clumps of 6-8 and there are several smaller pups also. What I will be doing is picking the three largest and wrapping those. The rest will have to just take their chances. Some of yours appear to be very close to the fence and so I would leave those and protect the ones at the front.
Yeah I have a few pseudostems close to the fence and deck which I'll be digging out in spring to encourage the clump to spread into the bed. These went in as plug plants and it's easy to underestimate how much the grow!
Really enjoyed the tour. A frustrating summer here as you described at your place. Barely any days over 20°C and it rained all the bloody time. Palms/cannas/gingers have done decent here despite the crappy conditions. The allotment has been the main project, the main frustrations remain there with the piss poor fruit and veg production but nevermind. There's always next year...
The allotment is looking great from the photos you've shared! No complaints as to the way the foliage plants have responded to the incessant rain, but I'd love more days to actually enjoy the garden with a clear blue sky and some actual heat 😭

@greatnorthernexotic Thanks mate. Much appreciated. I'm the same as you. I just wanna sit in the garden in the summer with some bloody warm weather once in a while🤣
Jeeze that gunnera does look dissapointing. Is this a Manicarta? Mine I am pleased with 1 year on and the leaves are pretty big for younger plants. Don't give up as I see them as an integral part of a tropical style garden!
What have been the main successes and failures in your garden this year?
pseudopanax crassifolius - why did I cut its roots :-(
Good watch thanks
Thanks for watching! 😄
3 eucalyptus you are a very brave man :-) They look great. Great tour and it still looks like its got more to give!

Great to see your garden , we really haven't had much sun in the UK have we
Thank you. Yes it's been a really underwhelming summer, fingers crossed for next year! 🤞
Still lots going on in your garden, even now 😊
First frosts this week 😬
Your paulownia does need more sun. But you shouldn't coppice/pollard it until it has a good size woody stem. This usually take about 3 years.
Thank you. I'll leave it to put on some more growth for a few years. I think I'll eventually coppice it at a taller height too.
