The long coupler on the Aries is great. I machined an aluminum plug with a 2.3mm hole. I pressed the plug in 9.5mm. I now use a 42.5mm piece of Capricorn tubing in the end, just like the Luke's hot end fix,
Kinda wish Voxelab would stop playing catch up and just jump ahead of the competition and the bar is set with the S1/S1 Pro. No more sidegrades and shutting down the wifi just because. Save that stuff for their other brand and gimme strain guage abl, flexible pei sheet and reliable extruder/coupler. Great overview mate
They could totally do it. Honestly not sure why they haven’t. I’m guessing because it makes more sense for them to reuse mechanics from other machines. Makes it easier to manufacture. Just guessing.
Hi I've just got this week this printer, and besides the fan noise (RGB fans are on delivery🤣) I'm very happy with the purchase. New follower from Spain 😊
The bed leveling system is pretty much identical to the Flashforge Finder...and the sound is exactly the same (tho FF Finder "plays" that "song" when you turn the printer on). Another great video!
Really good looking printer - I want to print larger items and miniatures for gaming, this machine looks like it could do both. Question: would you recommend this printer for what I want to do or the Aries? I don’t mind using the VoxelMaker.
I sell 3d Printers for a living and I will NOT be stocking these anymore. The one I sold failed after a few prints and likely due to the flat ribbon cables (casual users should not be expected to handle that type of cable). The real deal breaker is the new mother boards cost more than 3 times the standard boards ($105 compared to $30). That is outrageous enough that I will probably stop dealing with Voxelab altogether. Who puts a $105 mainboard (plus postage as it is not stocked locally) in a $200 printer ?
I don't like being locked into a "system" but I understand why they do it. My favorite part of the whole thing was the preview of your file on the screen with all the specs for the print!! Every printer should do that!! Also, I know those cutters made you happy and they're so cute!
I STILL giggle when I take out those cutters. It’s like holding a tiny spoon. I agree on the system. At first I was very disappointed but then I had to remind myself that just because I prefer something else, doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy it. That helped me get though even without being able to print my plane. Haha

Yep, I forget that sometimes. I also think it’s cool voxelab listened. My list was really long. I thought they would have been annoyed. But no, they fixed it all.
The sister board on the hotend definitely makes any replacements/upgrades easier to wire up so you don't have to really open up & route the wires to the main board. I always feel like if I do change anything out that I'm not going to be able to get the wires tucked away the same as the original.
great video as always, do you have any mods for the aquila pro, such as direct drive or anything else, I have had a aquila pro for a couple of weeks and am truly happy with the unit, but if there are improvements that I can do, that's all the better.
Thanks Ian! The pro is definitely in its own little ecosystem. Because of that, there are very little mods you can do. Well at least that have to do with the board, screen, and firmware. That’s why the aftermarket for the machine is a bit low. It is a good one though, and seems to be really reliable. So just enjoy it as is and get those slicer settings just right. ;)
I love those bed clips, the trouble with bulldog clips that most manufacturers use is that if you have a high point in your aluminium plate the tension in the bulldog clips deforms the corners, I would welcome extruded plates in premium model printers, I think people would pay for the benefits also!
Great review. I had to set up a cheap print farm and bought a few x2's and one of these Pro's .. the x2's did not last long where as the Pro is still going strong. PS: Love the Diablo 2 CD ;)
I used the ender3v2 profile and it seems to work well. (although the purge line does not work) EDIT: Then it stopped working, I found your short with the gcode start! Thanks.

Great review, you have helped me a lot by watching your videos. I was set on getting the creality S1 pro, but now this is an option. Are the stepper motors quiet on this? I have the Aquila C2 and had to change the board as it was too noisy. 😀
As someone new to 3D printing and having bought an Aquila X2, I'd like to see your Aquila Modded and perhaps a series on worthwhile upgrades both inexpensive and toward the higher end of the cost spectrum if that's a thing.
Hey I’m new to this starting to look into 3d printing to mess around maybe try invent or start a business which 3d printer would you prefer for a good outcome and affordable machine
The several I’ve been recommending the most are Bambu Lab if you can afford it, Sovol SV06 if you want a prusa style machine, a sidewinder x2 (did a video on it) if you need a larger size, and if you need a small machine I did some videos on the Kingroon KP3S Pro which I really like.

Considering this printer as my first, I won't mind the locked in nature of it, as you said, I'm the person who would just want to download a template from thingiverse and hit print.

Hi, I need some help I have this printer 2 weeks ago and I can't print with Cura, it prints the first layer and then repeat (Z axis doesn't move), i followed the doc that comes into the voxelab pen but I'm stuck with voxelmaker since cura doesn't works for me.
Thats right. Cura requires very special settings for he Pro. Its a proprietary printer meant to only work with their own software. You’re in luck though because I found a work around here: ruclips.net/user/shortspJBOIX33jlo?feature=share
Nice review! I still on the fence about getting this one over another X2 I think it is funny that people are worried about being locked in...Apple has been doing it since the beginning ;-) 😉
The only worry I have with that comparison is that Apple is a massive company…Voxelab is not. So they could poof one day and you’d have a machine that would no longer be supported. I mean, you could always swap the board, screen, and ABL mechanisms but that kinda defeats the whole point of it. But if that’s not a problem for you, this machine would be great. Especially with a PEI sheet.

@@petercallison5765 The proprietary nature of this board + screen combo has always been this printers Achilles heel. The board being $100+ is just nuts. At that point, throw in a btt skr and screen.
Hi mate. I've just found your channel and I'm very impressed with the solution you found with the ptfe tube. Could I ask your advice please? I want to make parts for my waterfilter tank which is conical, smooth and I may need to print a type of rubber to seal it off. Preferably food grade plastics. Could you advise which plastics would be best? I am yet to buy a printer but I have watched over a 100 videos trying to find the best printer. I'm looking for self leveling, able to use different filament types. Able to control it wirelessly and hook up cameras and octopi in the future. My budget is £200-£400. With this machines you reviewed. Does the software work well on a wireless connection? Slicing software?
I think there may be better machines out there for you. But for your budget this might be a great start. Depends on how much tinker you want to do. If it’s near none, this machine would work well. Sounds like you will need PETG. You would have to buy an “all metal heatbreak” if you plan to print PETG often

I want to just start printing my inventions and designing them too, and not have to worry too much about setting up the printer. I can do that later when trying to perfect the models. Hi i just got a second hand Aquila pro but the screen flashing the Voxelab name and thats all it does ive tryed to update firmware but it wont read the usb drive do you think its the motherboard gone faulty
Wouldnt be able to help with the PRO. Since its got a proprietary screen and board, it would be up to Voxelab to help with the troubleshooting. I would check all the physical connections on the board though.

I've now got two of these and after I set-up the first and attached to my WiFi, both printers updated the firmware, since doing this there are additional settings that pop up after the update, which after looking on RUclips I found some information, but neither of my printers seem to print now, the initial raft prints very well, however things going wrong when it starts to print the model, I just end up with a mess. I was trying to use Ultimaker Cura version 5.0.0, I've just tried the same model this time using VoxelMaker version 1.2.7, 64 Bits. Immediately I can see that the print works when using VoxelMaker.
As he said in the video your locked into using Voxelmaker apparently they haven't fixed that issue yet or maybe they never will. It wouldn't worry me as I am a beginner and as long as voxelmaker allows you to slice most 3d models and gives a good printed model on the printer at the end of the day , then I be happy. I like the idea of auto leveling; I have the Voxelab Aquila and I have done very little on it and just trying to set it up for a print and having issues trying to level it. So frustrating! I will be buying the Pro I reckon. Happy printer.
I am however considering the Creality Ender 3 Sl Pro as it has higher heating and therefore handles more variety of Filaments plus Auto leveling and bigger build by 20 mm on all axis ( 220x220x270)as well as dual z axis threaded rods for more stability. Another added vantage is its able to use other slicers and because its a more well known product its more likely to have templates on slicers ! Voxelab doesn't from the issues I have had! This wasn't the selling point for me but with all the other points plus being able to buy it for under $700 dollars I think I have changed my mind. Yes I hear you say but it's more expensive but It has more for the money . Would love to hear others thoughts on the Ender 3 SL pro .
I’ve a question. Just got the Aquila pro for Christmas, how can I calibrate my esteps I can’t find an option to extrude a certain amount of filament to check :/
Cheryl, Since the PRO is a closed-source printer, its firmware is proprietary. So, adjusting your esteps the traditional way is impossible on this machine unless it’s in the menu specifically. I don't think you can do any marlin commands/gcode. They just won't work.

Seems like a bit upgraded version of CR 6 SE... nothing really unique... the auto-bed levelling system with that cheap servo motor is a bit suspicious and I think might cause some problems in the future... in comparison to BIQU BX machine that was reviewed previously, the Aquila Pro did not make any impression on me... just my opinion.
I have a question about cura how do I change how a print prints meaning if a file prints standing up how can I change it to print laying down thank you
There is a function inside of cura that lets you select a face on the model and have it be what contacts the build plate. It should be selectable with one of the big buttons on the left side of Curas interface, it may be nested inside with a long press.
Depends. The x2 can perform on a similar level, so if the output in the only thing you care about, then no. It’s not worth it. However, I think it’s better in almost every other way. Easier to setup, built much better, it’s more consistent. The Aquila is more upgradable though. So if you are A to B, then no. If you are all about how you got to B then yes. :)
I bought some petg filament by accident by this company and I can not get it to print worth a crap. Always peels off the plate and clumps up a lot. Iv tried tons of different settings, with not much luck. Using voxelab Aquila, with upgraded boden tube.
PETG is hard! I find some people have a super easy time and some have trouble. I’ve been on both sides of the coin. But for me, IIIDmax has been absolutely trouble free.
@@3DPrintSOS do I absolutely need a dryer for it because its run so bad I can’t even make anything out of it. Also the pla run’s okay, comparing it to the pla voxelab makes, it runs like crap. Not sure I will be buying anymore of it. But I have like 10 rolls of it.
Hmm. I wonder why you’re having so much trouble. I haven’t had a single issue with their stuff in countless rolls. I just got another case in too. :/ You don’t absolutely, but for PETG, it has helped me greatly. I used to print PETG for one of my designs I used to sell. It was a crab measuring tool for commercial crabbers. And many cheapo rolls I used to buy from amazon back in the day HAD to be dried. Otherwise they would be a stringy mess. I need to make another video on using some calibration tools in Cura. Like stringing and temperature tests. Might help you hone it in.

This does too. At least in the latest firmware. I didn’t know the FF has this same system. That makes even more sense.
According to Voxelab's own advert, this has a "All Mental Body". Nice.
It does work with CURA, you have to send the sliced file to your desktop and then drop it in voxelmaker

The bed mechanism is one of the main selling points for me for both this and the Aries. I think it’s great. Makes it “feel” more premium as well.
If you have a magnetic bed you dont need clips...just saying

Cura profiles often have a G28 command at the end of the start code. This homes the head but dumps out the bed mesh so it is not using the auto level.

apart from having bed leveling knobs it looks identical to my Creality CR6 SE
Pretty close mechanically. However firmware wise, it’s locked into the Voxelab ecosystem.

Glad I could help. Yep, they are silent on this machine. The fans aren’t, but the steppers are.

I also dislike how the bed and hotend is not heated on the Aries. But I can always adjust the offset.
That was one of the things we worked on with voxelab. So the latest firmware for this machine will heat the bed for leveling.

I mean, you could always swap the board, screen, and ABL mechanisms but that kinda defeats the whole point of it. But if that’s not a problem for you, this machine would be great. Especially with a PEI sheet.
I sell 3d Printers for a living and I will NOT be stocking these anymore. The one I sold failed after a few prints and likely due to the flat ribbon cables (casual users should not be expected to handle that type of cable). The real deal breaker is the new mother boards cost more than 3 times the standard boards ($105 compared to $30). That is outrageous enough that I will probably stop dealing with Voxelab altogether. Who puts a $105 mainboard (plus postage as it is not stocked locally) in a $200 printer ?
@@petercallison5765 The proprietary nature of this board + screen combo has always been this printers Achilles heel. The board being $100+ is just nuts. At that point, throw in a btt skr and screen.

Could I ask your advice please? I want to make parts for my waterfilter tank which is conical, smooth and I may need to print a type of rubber to seal it off. Preferably food grade plastics. Could you advise which plastics would be best?

I think there may be better machines out there for you. But for your budget this might be a great start. Depends on how much tinker you want to do. If it’s near none, this machine would work well. Sounds like you will need PETG. You would have to buy an “all metal heatbreak” if you plan to print PETG often

I want to just start printing my inventions and designing them too, and not have to worry too much about setting up the printer. I can do that later when trying to perfect the models. Im not sure what you think of that printer?
I have looked into an all metal heatbreak. Also the direct drive. Not sure what what to do yet, eager to get cracking though ;)

The V3 SE is far better as a first machine by today’s standards. Mainly because it automates bed leveling and zoffset.

D1. It’s not fully closed-sourced on the hardware and is far more capable.

Have you removed the heater and thermistor from the hotend and then reinstall it? Have you checked the thermistor plug on the motherboard?
Hi i just got a second hand Aquila pro but the screen flashing the Voxelab name and thats all it does ive tryed to update firmware but it wont read the usb drive do you think its the motherboard gone faulty
Wouldnt be able to help with the PRO. Since its got a proprietary screen and board, it would be up to Voxelab to help with the troubleshooting. I would check all the physical connections on the board though.

I've now got two of these and after I set-up the first and attached to my WiFi, both printers updated the firmware, since doing this there are additional settings that pop up after the update, which after looking on RUclips I found some information, but neither of my printers seem to print now, the initial raft prints very well, however things going wrong when it starts to print the model, I just end up with a mess.
I was trying to use Ultimaker Cura version 5.0.0, I've just tried the same model this time using VoxelMaker version 1.2.7, 64 Bits. Immediately I can see that the print works when using VoxelMaker.
As he said in the video your locked into using Voxelmaker apparently they haven't fixed that issue yet or maybe they never will. It wouldn't worry me as I am a beginner and as long as voxelmaker allows you to slice most 3d models and gives a good printed model on the printer at the end of the day , then I be happy. I like the idea of auto leveling; I have the Voxelab Aquila and I have done very little on it and just trying to set it up for a print and having issues trying to level it. So frustrating! I will be buying the Pro I reckon. Happy printer.
I am however considering the Creality Ender 3 Sl Pro as it has higher heating and therefore handles more variety of Filaments plus Auto leveling and bigger build by 20 mm on all axis ( 220x220x270)as well as dual z axis threaded rods for more stability. Another added vantage is its able to use other slicers and because its a more well known product its more likely to have templates on slicers ! Voxelab doesn't from the issues I have had! This wasn't the selling point for me but with all the other points plus being able to buy it for under $700 dollars I think I have changed my mind. Yes I hear you say but it's more expensive but It has more for the money .
Would love to hear others thoughts on the Ender 3 SL pro .

I’ve a question. Just got the Aquila pro for Christmas, how can I calibrate my esteps I can’t find an option to extrude a certain amount of filament to check :/
Cheryl, Since the PRO is a closed-source printer, its firmware is proprietary. So, adjusting your esteps the traditional way is impossible on this machine unless it’s in the menu specifically. I don't think you can do any marlin commands/gcode. They just won't work.

Is Prusaslicer out as a slicer then for this printer?
You can use it to make gcode and use the usb. Just wouldn’t be able to do use wireless.

It’s a fairly basic extruder. If it has issues, it would be the same issues any single gear extruder runs into. ;)

Seems like a bit upgraded version of CR 6 SE... nothing really unique... the auto-bed levelling system with that cheap servo motor is a bit suspicious and I think might cause some problems in the future... in comparison to BIQU BX machine that was reviewed previously, the Aquila Pro did not make any impression on me... just my opinion.
I share a similar opinion. Closed source is not for me. But I do think this belongs. It’s super super easy to print on.

I have a question about cura how do I change how a print prints meaning if a file prints standing up how can I change it to print laying down thank you
There is a function inside of cura that lets you select a face on the model and have it be what contacts the build plate. It should be selectable with one of the big buttons on the left side of Curas interface, it may be nested inside with a long press.

Depends. The x2 can perform on a similar level, so if the output in the only thing you care about, then no. It’s not worth it. However, I think it’s better in almost every other way. Easier to setup, built much better, it’s more consistent. The Aquila is more upgradable though. So if you are A to B, then no. If you are all about how you got to B then yes. :)

I bought some petg filament by accident by this company and I can not get it to print worth a crap. Always peels off the plate and clumps up a lot. Iv tried tons of different settings, with not much luck. Using voxelab Aquila, with upgraded boden tube.
PETG is hard! I find some people have a super easy time and some have trouble. I’ve been on both sides of the coin. But for me, IIIDmax has been absolutely trouble free.
@@3DPrintSOS do I absolutely need a dryer for it because its run so bad I can’t even make anything out of it. Also the pla run’s okay, comparing it to the pla voxelab makes, it runs like crap. Not sure I will be buying anymore of it. But I have like 10 rolls of it.

You don’t absolutely, but for PETG, it has helped me greatly. I used to print PETG for one of my designs I used to sell. It was a crab measuring tool for commercial crabbers. And many cheapo rolls I used to buy from amazon back in the day HAD to be dried. Otherwise they would be a stringy mess. I need to make another video on using some calibration tools in Cura. Like stringing and temperature tests. Might help you hone it in.
