The most memorable about TST was, as a kid in the late 60's and early 70's, feeling sleepy in the back seat of our car, as it crept toward the vehicular ferry back to Hong Kong Island, where I lived in grew up. The hope was to get into the ferry before it filled up otherwise we had to wait for the next one, or even the one after that. Even the first cross harbor tunnel was not yet built. From Hong Kong Island to Yuen Long was a very long distance trip, taking three hours, going thru Castle Peak Road. A Western restaurant Ruby, 红宝石, was in the area. A few times we eat dinner there. I don't remember if it were in TST, but certainly close to TST A few old Hong Kong movies included it. Image of it still exists.
Thanks soo much for sharing about TST and Hong Kong in general. Its stories like yours that give the place meaning 😄 Will like to pin this to share your story with fellow Discoverers
My husband and I went on our honeymoon to HK & Macau in Aug 2018. We stayed at the Park Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui. We used to walk these streets almost everyday. The street food shop at 7:00 was our regular haunt as this was the only place where we could find food at 12 o'clock at night. And i remember the lady sitting down behind the counter at 7:12 used to be super busy cooking and serving everyone as this place used to be crowded even at night. Feeling so nostalgic! Thank you for this! Love from Mumbai, India!

Love this video, one of the best of TST. How I miss my heart's home. Wish I could go back to 1976 and step off that plane at night at Kai Tak all over again.
one of my favorite things to do when I first get to a new place or city when travelling is to check in at the hotel to drop everything off in the room and and go out for a little walk like this, just to get a layout of what's around and let all the sights and sounds soak in...then stop in somewhere on the way back to the hotel that you noticed looked interesting earlier for some local food and drink.
Haha. I wonder if majority of travellers are like that? It's something I always do as well. I always try to look out for pharmacies and late night food stalls nearby my place of stay when I'm overseas
Me too. I drop everything off in the hotel room and then go to a 7eleven store and buy a bottle of water and then stroll the area where I am at to get an initial vibe of the city and check out near restaurants
I’ll be there in just over 6 weeks time to see my girlfriend, my very first trip to an Asian country. I’ve been wanting to go to Hong Kong for more than 20 years, can’t wait to go.
OMG I miss TST so much, especially the Chunking Mansions. Used to go there on weekends and have Indian foods for very cheap price. My school was in Wu Kai Sha, so it used to be an hour of travelling approx.
Glad you had good memories of TST Siva. I remembered staying in a couple of hostels in chunking mansions when I visited. 5sqm. Smallest room I ever been in 😳🤣
I found Hong Kong city landscape lacking greenery as seen in Singapore. Not quite sure what is the reason behind it. Another thing I noticed is lack of variety of cars. Tsim Sha Tsui Chung King Mansions, the beginning of the video...I used to lived there on the 18th floor back in 1978. A place where there's a lot of escort, bars, massage parlors, cops as well as Triads members at night. On the basement level there was a night club named China City, we saw quite a bit of good looking girls and wealthy people hanging out there every night. Despite the area was like red light district it was indeed pretty safe to live there.

One of the cool things when I visited Hong Kong in TST or it could be mong Kok or 1 or 2 train stops away, was that I found a local restaurant that's opened 2am in the morning. I enjoyed some good local food there. You can't find a restaurant in America opened at 2am.

Nothing like Hong Kong we were there in September. We stayed in kowloon . It's a special city that I'm a little sad to say is changing for the worse since 1997. The people of Hong Kong built a fantastic city . They are like night and day different from the people of mainland China.
I miss Hong Kong. There was an energetic vibe around the city. I haven't visited since the protests so I can't feel the vibe now. Wondering how things are like over there
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV We in September spent four nights in kawloon, we saw no demonstrations. I was stopped by plain clothes security, a young girl and a older male . They checked our passports and identification. When I asked why they are doing this they responded by saying to see we weren't helping the demonstrators. I also walked up some steps to look into a police station in kawloon. I was spotted looking through some iron gate and I caused total panic inside the police station . I got out of the way very quickly. We visited Tia O and in the bus station in Lantou we saw the wall inside the bus station had complaints about the CCP. We spent time in Tia O . Loved it . The conflict against The CCP is probable not winnable. Sad for Hong Kong and its people .

What I love most about asian countries are the independent shops and authenticity of food. In the U.K. everything is catered to English tastebuds and in my opinion defeats the purpose of Asian food. And by independent shops I mean clothing shops, restaurants. In the U.K. we have the same chain shops in every city you go too!!! Zara, Ralph Lauren, ted baker h and m same 💩 And that is why I want to move to Asia. 🙂

I have been there in HK on May of 2019, my latest Asian trip before the pandemic
Thank you my friend for showing Hong Kong
Happy to be given the opportunity to show. 😊 It's my last Hong Kong video and I will miss the bustle of the place.

You’ve been to Hong Kong?
Thank you for these dear memories. ❤️
My pleasure =)
Thanks for sharing a little of your trip. I actually had plans to visit it in October 2019 but changed location after seeing all the "constant" protesting. Wonder how Hong Kong will be like 5 years down the road.
It's a beatiful city.
so 1.5 billion mainlanders are all the same in your eyes.. how pathetic you are..
I really miss the journey of HK wish to visit again once the panademic is over❤

Haven't been here yet but all I can see is all the places here are just the same, Just Tall Bldgs with Hanged Clothes in The Balcony and Windows but I must Say Shouson Hill Deep Water Bay is the Best Place to live in HK or all the Near in the Beach.
0:10 at the chungking mansion there's a hotel there right own by an Indian? My parents book a hotel there at the time where we visit hongkong 😄
Not sure of its owned by an indian. But inside Chungking mansions there are alot of "cheap" place to sleep. =) Stayed in a number of those cramp hostels with only 5sqm for a room. Fascinating experience😀
suatu saat nanti aku pasti bisa ke hongkong❤️🙏
Nice cyberpunk vibe.
Would have been spectacular at night I think 🌃😊

Thank you sir
how I miss this place... HK
Beautiful city
Thanks for posting such an amazing video about the streets of Hong Kong! Is it okay for me to use about 20 seconds of the footage as a background video for a school project I'm working on? It's about the electricity consumption in Hong Kong.
Go ahead if its just for your school project. All the best for your studies
Thanks a lot!
Thank you for sharing this movie. I really enjoyed it.
Glad you liked it Tammy 😊 where are you from?
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV I’m from Tokyo, Japan
@@Tammy_tammy I love Tokyo Once this whole covid is over, that would be the first city I head to

British built asian newyork city the hongkong city is superb city in asia continent hongkong wow
Hong Kong has beautiful skyline after New York City
cool amazing city
Agreed 🤗 fond memories of HK
Imiss hongkong
I love Hong Kong!
Zara, Ralph Lauren, ted baker h and m same 💩
And that is why I want to move to Asia. 🙂
Haha very true lad, live in England and visited Hk for 2 weeks in 2018, miss it so much
The true is: Hong Kong is losing its specialty since it had been erased by the CCP and globalization!
it's the same exact crap in NYC also....it's so boring....everything is so generic and baseline over and over and over again........
I agree I'm in Canada and it's the same shit here. Large boring box stores as far as the eye can see.
@@peterjabattack1 ok nigga
I will visit Hong Kong once the pandemic is over.
Don’t! The riots will resume I guarantee it.
