    The Mets will have to acquire free agents and make meaningful trades to reconstruct the 2025 roster. Luisangel Acuna, Drew Gilbert and Brandon Sprout could play roles in 2025. Also, let's not forget Ronny Mauricio who could be the icing-on-the-cake provided he can be in playing shape in time for spring training. As for pitching, I'm against signing Sean Manaea for multiple years (ala the Phillies with Taijuan Walker). I'm for keeping Luis Severino for 1 or 2 years but we need at least one front-end starting pitcher (2 would be nice) to compliment Kodai Senga. I'll have faith that Davis Stearns will work his magic in reconstructing the pitching staff. LGM!!!

      I agree, but I don't trust Severino with barely over 100 IP since 2019 though he's likely to take QO. I don't want Manaea bc he hit a wall with the new arm slot in the playoffs, so he could only pitch 3 months. The Mets could really use one of the prospects Sproat and/or AAAA starters with their time in the pitching labs. I worry that Stearns see megill as a starter & buy for mid tier starters over that ace & there should be a real concern about Senga for health.
      Clifford needs to break out by 2016 if they DON'T sign Alonso. Even if they sign Soto. I think in many ways Pete is more valuable to the Mets because of his ability to pick it, run production & worth that 7th year. His heroics in the playoffs are why having a home groan break every offensive stat for the Mets, imho.

      Manaea’s career ERA is 4.00, not even a whole run off from what he did this year. He’s a proven average to above average pitcher. Walker just had one bad year. I’d say give him 2 years, 3 max if the price is right. Worst that can happen with him is he’ll have a mediocre year.

    I would like to see the Mets swing a deal with the Mariners. Their farm system is loaded with pitching talent. Jeff McNeil paired with one of your promising young catchers, could land you some AA arms that could crack the roster by the end of the year or next year.

    Brett Batty still getting mentioned is a shocker considering all of the Mets prospects we have. Mauricio, Acuña, Jett Williams, Gilbert. I’m sure more which I don’t even know of.

    • @Mitchropolitan
      @Mitchropolitan 13 дней назад +1

      @@emiliothepoet a key prospect in the system who I look at as untouchable with few natural power hitters is Ryan Clifford. Probably Pete’s replacement if they don’t sign him. He could be manning 1B/LF by 2026 at the earliest, but definitely going to be a downgrade around the bag which is why they need Pete back. Clifford, Reimer (also in the fall league) & Houck are the 3 bats who I will be watching the most. On the pitching front, obviously sproat, Scott won’t play after late season TJ. Total mismanagement & use of this kid. He would have had a better chance for the Mets to win than megill & houser. They also could have evaluated if he needed surgery EARLIER & he could have helped the team possibly by August. Tong another untouchable is probably the highest upside, Tidwell could crack the rotation probably no higher than a 3 or 4. McLean gets tossed around a bit, but more likely to be part of a trade package same for morabito to fatten a deal from the hitting side. Ziegler is a potential bullpen arm with some serious spin rate. Vasil is a swingman/spot starter at best. Not sure if hamel will even be a bullpen arm. Though, with the pitching labs/health everything is subject to change. I’m sure there’s definitely a few names that some people who like more & have much more knowledge than I do.

    Ryan!
    Please stop trying to place Baty at third base. That ship has sailed. Baty has has too many chance but consistently has not stepped up. I truthfully believe is Luis Angel Acuna had not stepped up when Lindor was injured and produced as the Mets were fighting to make the playoffs in September, the Mets would not have made the playoffs. Yet, you dismiss him as being behind Baty as a player to earn first chance to make the roster in the Spring?? That’s incredulous! If the manager follows this line of thought, that would be a huge mistake.
    Mauricio did show ability when given a chance. This puts Baty behind minimally these players and in fact even Iglesias who also produced when given a chance! Baty is behind all these players because he has already been given chance after chance but failed . Please Ryan, it’s time to move on from Baty.

    I believe that Mets fans got over-excited about Christian Scott. He did well in his first start in a game being umpired by one of the most pitcher friendly umpires in Major League Baseball. If you look at his starts after that, you will see that he did not have any overly impressive starts. Also, I recall that in that first start his velocity was in the vicinity of 97 mph. I also recall that in the early to middle innings that velocity tailed off. In all of his subsequent starts his velocity was well below that 97 mph. I think that he had a great first start because of a combination of adrenaline and a very picture friendly umpire. I don't think he's nearly as good as Mets fans hope he is.
