Going into this year, McNeil is more valuable to us on our roster. McNeil was really coming on in the second half last year. He was one of the drivers of our offense when we started crushing everything, and the offense immediately suffered when he was out due to the hit by pitch. I’m looking forward to what he can do hitting 6-7 in this lineup.
If he can get back to being a .300 hitter, which he is obviously more than capable of, it’ll do wonders for this offense. He just has to stay healthy and slap the ball. Too many times he tried lifting the ball last year.
I'll be surprised if McNeil does not play for the Mets for his whole contract. Part of that is that I think McNeil can get back to being a player approximating the player the Mets extended. McNeil certainly has gone through some issues, but in the second half of 2024, before the late-season injury, he really performed well for a 2b. If he can string that together for an entire season ... he's a great value at 2b. But the "if" is the real issue. I think McNeil will get every chance to win the 2b job in '25 ... and I certainly hope he excels. If not, the Mets have young guys waiting for a chance. Dumping McNeil and eating some salary, ... could happen to open the door for Acuna or Williams or _________. I'd bet on McNeil being the opening day 2b, and that is probably the best likely path moving forward. He really is a good player when he's "on."
You can always put Iglesias at 3rd move vientos to DH if you keep pete and not soto or 1st if you don't resign pete and get soto. I'd rather eat and trade marte especially to get that pitcher from the white sox
Keep McNeil! Who can you get for him? Stop thinking dollars, Ryan; Steve Cohen doesn't. McNeil can play 6 positions competitly and he may have a come-back season.
Has there ever been a reporter who has asked a player if they feel that they're living up to or playing well enough to their contract? I'd be curious to hear a player's answer to that.
To get the best from Mcneil & Iglesias platoon them at 2B and be defensive replacements at 3B & OF. Combined you easily get 18 Hrs 75 RBI's 275 BA with excellent defense good speed and most importantly 2 guys who don't strike out too much. Let Acuña and Mauricio play everyday having them ready if needed.
I hope we can keep all 3 especially if Acuna looks good in spring all 3 are versatile I do love Iglesias he brought excitement. I'd rather trade Marte. This is tough getting Siri made it a little tougher,I really loved Winker as a Met .At least we have the DH now in our league that used to play real baseball.
Squirrel is a big part of this team. If they do not get Soto and sign several guys including Adames and/or Bregman then they may move on from him. But, they sure would be selling low and eating cash which again makes no sense unless he is rendered completely redundant. PS, anyone expecting Iglesias to maintain and/or duplicate his average and amazing results from last year are more than likely going to be horribly disappointed.
I don't get why so many people wanting to keep everyone who came up through our farm system even if there is many better players available. Winning teams need built with using your head not heart. MCNeil has his moments with 1 good year. We already have cheaper and better options with more upside. Trade him. Same goes with Alonso. We can same crappy batting avg with 30 HR cheaper. Plus look at stats, Pete has been declining each of last couple years. I prefer winning more than keeping people entire careers.
Trade him - he has bad vibes and wasn’t a driver of the turnaround. Objectively, he could not hit most of the year and whenever he struck out or popped up he would swear and yell like a baby. He should play cricket or golf.
I wonder if any team would be willing to acquire him via trade. The Mets would likely have to pay some/most of his contract. If he can play like he did in 2022 though, all of his “bad vibes” will be forgiven.
@@LockedOnMets True but think about it - he was dead weight with horrible average and bad attitude/bad body language except July and early August. He didn't even feel like part of the 2024 Mets. He was not all in like Igelasias, Lindor and Vientos. Everyone could see he did not fully buy in to the team or those special clubhouse vibes mattered a lot in 2024. When in London all he talked about was cricket. He also plays golf too much - bad for his swing.

Keep McNeil for the positional flexibility and his contact skills. Still useful.
I hope Jeff plays his whole career as a Met ,Pete too.

The jeff mcneil hate is hilarious. Please stop talking as if iglesias is better. Mcneil 2025 is going to make you eat your words

With a stacked roster for the LA Dodgers, for Lindor not to get at least one first place vote for MVP is egregious

Oh let’s turn our back on OMG too
McNeil might hit next season but with what we've seen with Iglesias its that he's very likely to hit
Yooooo my team everyday
Ryan just loves to turn his back on True Mets like Alonso and McNeil

Billy Eppler was the worst gm ever.
Sign Iglesias at all costs, put him wherever in the infield... One thing certain in sports are injuries so you can Never have enough depth
They need to trade him asap.
I sure hope not. Enough…
Arenado for McNeil straight up
No .. please, we have way better player's then him at second

Get rid of him
