But Make It Vintage: Daenerys Targaryen || Ep. 2

- Here she is! (Finally lol)
For the second episode of BMiV, I decided to do none other than the amazing Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. I figured it's a very fitting project for how in love (and simultaneously stressed) I am about GoT at the moment, lol. Also put this outfit down for the outfit I want to live in forever and ever.
I hope you guys love this as much as I do, I love you all!

Rachel april 2019: "I don't use patterns bc I can't read them, they're jibberisch to me."
Rachel (July) 2021: *patches multiple patterns together to make a pretty dress*
It's amazing to see how far she's come in like two and a half years!
My roommate looked over and asked me “why is Dorothy speaking Dothraki?”
To which I had to answer: “Dorothraki, you mean?”
HAHAH omg amazing I love that 🙏🙏🙏🙏
😂😂😂 That would be one heck of a crossover. Wizard of Oz and Game of Thrones! 😂🤣😂
@@merindymorgenson3184 Sorry I'm late, but... "Wizard of ThrOznes", then ? XD
Elise Dasvin that or Game of Wizards, or Game of Oz? Wizard of Games? So many possibilities 😂
@@merindymorgenson3184 Wicked Dragonriders of the South. 🐱🐉
You should do one of the Disney princesses in the era that their movie was made in! So for example: a 1930s version of Snow White.
Or a fifties Style Cinderella
YEEEEEES gawd
80’s Little Mermaid!
Ohohohoh or if she were a disney princess (i mean, i consider her one lmao) what would she look like????? Yaaaaasssss!!!!
Kaitlyn Holm oh man she could do Ariel’s human dress with the puffy sleeves 🤩 💕
"My first time using a pattern" and here I am in Sep 2020 seeing you as a fairly accomplished seamstress - well done. Thanks for sharing your sewing journey
Yes! Watching after all the amazing fall 2020 stuff, all I can say is THANK YOU for posting videos from the start and bearing with all the patronizing comments so beginners like me can be encouraged by your continuum of skill building. You are a badass.
Can you please do harley quinn as like a 1930s burlesque dancer
NO
@@cecilyerker why not
Yes, that would be amazing any of them
I think a 1930s moll (I hope I spelled that right) would suit her character more but I think that would still be really cool to see
oooooooo yes
I lived this. Would you do Narcissa Malfoy, something screams a good 'but make it vintage' look.

Game of Thrones: *is set in ancient medieval times*
Rachel: *MORE VINTAGE*
But it's entirely fantasy, so whatever world this happened in wasn't necessarily akin to Medieval times on earth... roll with it. :)
Lea F well first, it was a joke. And second of all, the writers said the costume hair and set design is based on medieval styles🤷🏽♂️
@@caseygreyson4178 :)
It's set in a fantasy world, so not a medieval historical setting.
@@caseygreyson4178 Based on them very loosely, though
A vintage Padme look would be amazing, seeing as her outfits are so extra anyway.
Your next one should be “Thanos but make it vintage “. (I’m sorry I had too, also no one spoil endgame for me I haven’t seen it yet)
Hahahaha nothing says GlaMoUr like his giganto chin
Rachel Maksy hahhaha😂😂😂
everytime someone says Thanos I read it as 'Theranos' and that bizarro Elizabeth woman with the deep voice who doesnt blink
End game was good ! Really good
@@rachelmaksy Go a diff route maybe like a historical figure from the past and make it 30s, 40s or 50s etc. Like idk Marie Antoinette ala 1950s, elizabeth the first ala 1970s LOL?
i just caught a shot to read her tattoo 👌 ( 9:38 "There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and its worth *fighting* for") i love it... btw great video, i love this series!!
Hhhh really .
Yeah I love it me too
Thank you for answering a burning question of mine!
Fun fact: that spot above the cupid's bow ("snot duct" 😂) is called the philtrum!
Hahaha snot duct just sounds so much more ✨elegant✨
My gran always called it 'God's thumbprint'.
@@rachelmaksy i've always heard people refer to that spot as the cupids bow. not so sure why, but its a fun name i suppose
@@paxtongrace5407 The cupid's bow is the dip of the lips, but not the part between your lips and your nose (as far as I understand).
Willy Wonka (based off of Gene Wilder's costume and the books sketch) as a 1920s style!! Would be so cool!!
"I'm not very good at sewing."
Three days later, creates something beautiful.
I have the same body type as you (the ultra-German kind) and my whole life I've felt sort of masculine with my broad shoulders and my big feet and my hip dips and feeling like my chest somehow made me look muscular rather than feminine. BUT! Watching you, all I can think is how soft and pretty you look, and finally I'm realizing that our body type is actually incredibly sexy, and I feel a lot more confident because of your videos. A lot of the things that you say about your figure remind me of things that I would always say to myself in my head, so I hope that you can have the same revelation that I did.
Here, i've seen it referred to as the "canadienne" look, but i just call it the viking woman body type tbh
what do you mean with "ultra-German kind" ?
@@ladyfreybier5774 im assuming she means like viking lady style?
Viking lass is strong and pretty :>
Can we just settle that body types are not down to nations. Also Germanic Tribes from Scandinavia and German aren't the same. So a Viking body would be a Norse kind if anything.
I do have the same built and feel like it should be celebrated more, as I too have struggled with recognizing my body's femininity
You look amazing! The overdrawn lips and blonde wig make you look so different.
Isn't it nuts what hair color and some makeup can do? 👀👀
PRO TIP
MY LOVE !!!!!! Don’t use your fabric scissors to cut paper you will very quickly dull and ruin your scissors!!! Best to use what ever paper scissors you have to cut the pattern if the pattern is from paper and not tissue !!!!!
"Moistrize me!" Lol I always love your references!
Hehehehe
I dont know where its from but it still made me snort
@@AccioMUA It's from Doctor Who.
“JoAnn’s is a place of misery” I say to myself as I pull into work (at JoAnn’s)
I don't even watch Game of Thrones but I love your videos so I'm definitely watching this
😭❤️❤️❤️
Rachel Maksy 💖

Goob: Cupid's bow
I love your make it vintage series! It is so creative and fun to watch the whole process (even the blunders). :D
I'm glad!! ❤️😊

You actually looked a lot like Emilia Clark! The reveal was amazing, you're my DIY QUEEEEEENNNN
*diy khaleesi 😉
@@PomegranateStaindGrn YASSSS that's it!
I love that her "talking to her cat" voice just sounds like a disney princess
the "WHERE ARE MY DRAGGGONNNS" picture cracked me up haha, love this series. Your struggle and pain in the name of art is appreciated!
it is so cute seeing her 2 years ago saying that she is a novice and sewing patterns are unreadable!!! that is what i call GROWTH!!
That wig looks so good on you.......but I just love your dog.....his facial expressions is priceless
I love that you talk to your pets as if they are actually participating in a conversation. I feel seen
"How dare you ruin my groove!"
I THREW OFF THE EMPERORS GROOVE
Does he KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU THROW OFF THE EMPEROR'S GROOVE?!
Beware the GROOooOOOVE!!!
SAAAAAAAAAAAAAWREEEEE!
First things first: I'm in love with this "But Make It Vintage" series.
Second of all, this is INCREDIBLE. I could not stop seeing Danny in your face once the makeup was done. I don't know how you did it, but you became Emilia Clarke. And the outfit itself was beautiful too. Great job, Rachel!
your transformation is NUTS like i know it's rachel talking but like...is that rachel tho
Same!! It was a weird experience, my brain kept switching in between "it's Rachel" and "it's Emilia" lol
"She is my creation, I must not look upon her with disdain." LOL!!
UM OMG. i should be finishing my 10 page end of semester paper but HELLO?! our vintage queen as spoken and nothing else matters
😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈🙈❤️❤️
I laughed aloud at Frodo walking across the pattern.
Pet parent moment 😆
Would you be interested in doing a Star Wars themed one? They’ve got such a range of different costumes throughout all the movies
OMG I'm expecting that one, too😂💕
I'd love to see a Padme-based BMiV. All of her looks were always gorgeous and I feel like there'd be a lot of great options
Great idea!!!
taika kyriak she’s actually recreated a couple stars wars look (I think). I know she done a laia look
Amazing!
Simple and efficient seamstress trick: always always always always iron your seams open. It will make those darts and the middle front seam look much sleeker and better. Basically, keep your iron next to your sewing machine all along the sewing process of a project and you sew each seam open after sewing it. It's annoying, but it's magic!
Okay but you ACTUALLY looked like her at some parts! Amazing.
She DID! So pretty and I love the dress
One of your BEST Transformations.
And the Frodo dragon cosplay is coming when?
Yeeeeess!
Yesyesyesyes!!
I don't watch GoT, but I love how the dress turned out! BTW I have sewing tutorials on my channel and have one for sewing a zipper in a side seam. I thought it might be helpful since you mentioned struggling with the zipper instructions. I'll link it in my reply.
ruclips.net/video/NZ350vvY7vA/видео.html
You need a sewing book. They can explain how to read the pattern and have terminology defined. Also take a sewing class. Or collab with a sewing youtuber
OMG, a collab with vintage inspired sewing queen Angela Clayton would be amazing.
Yennefer from the witcher could be cool! Her costumes have so much texture to them which could be a help or a hinderance I suppose. Her whole dark witchy aesthetic could be really cool. I loved watching you set the curls with your wig, I didn’t realize that there is a sort of pattern to the curling that makes it look that way but it makes soooo much more sense now! Also Frodo traipsing across your pattern is so cute and so relatable, I have a Brittany named Remy (after the x-man because thats what kind of nerd I am) and he just walks all over anything in his way. He loves going outside to get his feet muddy and walking on a newly made bed the very most, because of course he does.
You named tour dog after Gambit... that's brilliant.
I've never even seen game of thrones, but this was amazing! You are extraordinarily talented!💞
Thank you so much!!
Hi Lila P I’m Lila D!!! 😂😂
The make up gave me that trippy vibe where your brain says, "It is Dany-It isn't Dany-It is Dany"
You did so amazing with this whole lewk. 10/10
IM LIVING FOR THIS SERIES!!!
❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊😊
Great job! Yes a fitted bodice like a corset with boning! Love the hundreds of little pieces you cut and glued! Loved it all! Your dog your cat! Thanks for sharing!
Your makeup is incredible! There are some angles where you look so much like her, it's startling, despite your very different face shape. WOW
The outtake supercut at the end…! is so adorable! I really like "There's no place like Dragonstone"
Girl, I have watched the last episode of "but make it vintage" at least 5 times. Your dedication to crafting is so inspiring and entertaining, love it!
Aahhhh thank you so much, that means so much to me!
@@rachelmaksy I know these videos require so much work for a long period of time... so you deserve THEM VIEWS! lol
1: I am so happy that I'm not the only one who goes to do amkeup for a character costume and is all- "must change the whole face shape!" I sometimes feel so extra, but it always looks great when its done.
2: I think the shapeless quality of the vest works actually. Especially in her dathraki looks it seemed like they tried not to emphasize her womanly shape because they wanted her to look young, so I feel like that would have been the look if they'd made that dress.
I don't watch game of thrones but I enjoyed this nonetheless!
I'm glad!!! ❤️❤️
Same tbh
I don't either, but I just watched Kayley Melissa's video on the evolution of Dany hairstyles and now this so !!!
Same.
"moisturize me"
...i died! XD
every time i hear "tainted love" now, i say, "hey--they're playing *classical* music!" :D
this hair and makeup look SO good on yo face. I love your red hair but this brings newfound appreciation for the old platinum days.
You're so good at cosplay makeup, my brain is trying to tell me I'm seeing someone else on screen.
(btw that eye makeup and eyebrows are really flattering on you!)
About Emilia Clarke: I just LOVE how she giggles and laughs whenever she talks about burning and blowing up people as Daenerys on the show! :'D
She did such a good job with the makeup and the dress!!! Good job, Rachel!!!
That wig hair floosh! NeciasHairsyling is quaking!
Another great video as always!
😂😂❤️❤️❤️
I love the contrast of me finding you in the last year or so& lately been binging. But to see that 5yrs ago you had little sewing experience- really inspiring as a grown up to start something publicly and then grow in the space in that area publicly. ❤
Not too shabby sewing! I can already see you're learning and improving from the last, which was not bad either!
Careful, though, the sewing can get addictive....
You did the makeup transformation really well. You captured Dany's essence pretty damn well.
I just bought my first vintage clothes today! You are such an insperation to me. I dont watch game of thrones, but this made my day!
Those shoulder wing ruffles give me life! Stunning look and transformation. Can't wait for more!
When you were doing your eyebrows you looked like Amy Adams at first, and you could do an Enchanted cosplay. It would be so cool. Btw, you did amazing! 😍
During the reveal, when you slightly exposed your teeth (24:19) you looked just like Danny!!! My god the attention to detail is stunning!
One word...BRILLIANT! More episodes, please. Maybe Black Canary?
I’d love vintage Black widow!
Welp, that tripod belongs to Binx now. Sorry I don't make the rules.
Could you do a cosplay for Alucard from Castlevania, inspired by perhaps either clothing from the Victorian era or 1900s-1910s era.
The glue did make me cringe, but for not being fluent with patterns your result is definitely beautiful. I love your videos, and I really enjoy your adventures into crafting. Joanne's is my favorite store.
Lol sometime it be like dat 🙏
It's so cool to come back to a video like this where you were just learning to use a pattern, and probably feeling quite intimidated and nervous, and then see how far you've come now in such a short time!! You should be very proud :)
Is Frodo the most adorable dog in the world? Such a character! And today with bonus beautiful Binks. Binx?
I'm guessing Binx, like the kid from Hocus Pocus?
OMG you know about The Shape of Jon Snow!!! That song is awesome.
I would love to see you wear this to a convention!
I am loving this series. Seriously, your creativity is unmatched. I know you already did that amazing Harry Potter look book (maybe the precursor to this series), but I would love to see you do Ginny Weasley in this series. Or Batgirl. Totally different genres, I know.
Also, I don't know if you ever watched Warehouse 13, but HG from that show would be a really cool, vintage inspired cosplay idea. (Her Warehouse years, that is). Claudia is my favorite character, but she would be harder to turn vintage unless you went the Steampunk route. Lol.
It would definitely be a nice, comfy outfit for a change! 😂❤️ ❤️ Thank you so much 😭❤️ and oooo no I haven't watched it!
i really like your personality and sense of humor. i don't sew much anymore, but i started sewing as a kid and kept at it thru my oldest child's childhood.
You should use e6000 glue its great for cosplay and stays on wayyy better then hot glue
Isn't it better for like props and stuff? I mean, can't it seap things like fabric... like, wouldn't it make the fabric stick to the dress form? And doesn't it have a longer dry time and fumes?
The fumes are so bad though. And you can't always glue outside. I never use E6000 on any of my costumes personally. Fabric glue works great (or if gluing rhinestones, gem tac) for things like that, also much better than hot glue. I've also done tests with E6000, fabric glue, and gemtac. The fabric glue holds better than E6000. Maybe it is just me? But with my cat (and me, as I am in bad health) I stay away from E6000.
@@spidermiss2426 : I loves me some fabric glue! It works really well if you need a quick fix, or if you don't have time to hand sew a component. It also works really well to keep exposed edges from fraying!
Those shoulder straps are EVERYTHING I LOVE THEM
Love this! You should totally do cat woman or the joker next!
Why do comic book characters just lend themselves so well to be turned vintage?! 😍😍😂
You did an AMAZING job sewing the dress! I’ve sewn for 40+ years, and I couldn’t handle that pattern either! Actual vintage patterns and many repos are incredibly over-complicated, but Simplicity patterns have been offering vintage patterns in all of their sewing books, and they are MUCH easier to follow! You definitely have an amazing eye!
I came to this video so fast , i think i lost my pants on the way
😂😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
Right?? Soon as I saw the post cross my fb feed, I legit dropped what I was doing to go watch. xD Now I just need to remember what I was doing.
I laughed so hard when I read this, my dog fell off her bed.
RACHEL THE MAKEUP IS SO GOOD. Possibly one of your best transformations yet, in terms of evoking a very recognizable face
Unexpected Shia Lebœuf.
This was lovely, Rachel. I appreciate seeing your nerdiness!
It's a Shia Surprise
You absolutely knocked this astounding creation out of the park! Brava.
You’re soul is absolutely needed in this world. I loveeeeee your light. Keep shining you vintage queen. Ps. You make me laugh so much haha! And I love learning from you! We love you! And- the process and reveal was awesomeeeeee!
The dress turned out so fricken cool!!! The scales were the perfect touch and I dig the sleeves!!! Phenomenal!!
Omg are you using fabric scissors on paper?! My seamstress soul bleeds.
Really though, you are doing great!
It's like a stab to the heart. Too bad we can't post pictures on comments, but I saw a meme today that resumes my life. I will try to explain what it was - someone posted on facebook ""What is a suitable punishment for my 14 year old daughter... She used MY FABRIC SCISSORS TO CUT TORTILLA WRAPS (angry smileys)". A very old lady called Judi replied: "Death". We are all Judi. We all feel Judi.
Seamstressed oh, I just died a little inside to read that! My three five year olds and my recently-turned-four year olds already know not to touch my fabric scissors. I’ve never even seen them reach for them. I gave the look of death to my son one time when he was glancing a little to hard at them 😂.
You did a fantastic job with the skirt! Beautiful flow, and give yourself a pat on the back for following a pattern. Anyone using one has felt defeated before they started and the materials you used are not the easiest to work with. So happy for you that everything worked out in the end.
Watching this a year later, I’m so in love with your growth as a RUclipsr. 😍😍😍 (Old content is still good!! You’ve gotten even better!!)
I sew the majority of my wardrobe, and found it helpful to use practice fabric when trying a new pattern. This helped me get comfortable with the pattern instructions and make any needed adjustments.
Totally random, but I love how your braids are done EXACTLY like Dorothy Gale’s in the 1939 version of The Wizard of Oz during Construction Day 1!
Edit: lol whoops I just got to the end of the video where you pointed this exact thing out.
Also, the final look was SO GOOD.
Okay but I’m living for those sleeves!!! They should be an everyday thing💖💖
The first time you said "Not so ...harsh,' I was like, aw man she missed an opportunity to say 'Stark', and then you DID IT THE SECOND TIME XD #fulfilled
Oh my goodness, I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! So creative and I love seeing you learn as you go!! Imagine how far you’ll go in a year, 2 years, etc! Thank you😃
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who talks to my cat like she's telling me a story and asking what happened next!
The makeup was SOOOOO good! There are certain clips you look so close to her its a lil freaky 10/10
Anyone else watching this in Fall 2020 going "wait what do you mean you don't use patterns or know how to sew? You're making a different outfit like every other day right now!"
I can especially see Emilia in your face in the reveal shots when you're zoomed out a bit. The close ups when you were actually doing it I couldn't but such is the nature of makeup!
A Doctor reference?! Could you be any more perfect?! ❤❤❤
Almost cracked my screen hitting play immediately! ♥
😂❤️❤️❤️
The face transformation is actually so on point!!
Thank you lovely!!!
Ack! I love your creativity and humor so much! ❤️
Seamstress pro-tip: Set your iron on the lowest setting and iron out those creases out of your pattern before you cut. Creases can take away from the intended pattern size and/or make your pieces wonky. It'll also make them lay flatter.
Also, I'd love to see you tackle a vintage Princess Leia. An Edwardian version of that Cloud City outfit could be interesting. 🤔
P.s. I too feel like Spider-Man cutting out pattern pieces sometimes 😆
