  • In this video I compare Capture One against Lightroom to see which of the two perform best with Fujifilm raw files. We test both current medium format sensors the 50mp and the 100mp one. We also test the APSC sensor found in current X-T series cameras. Find out which of the two software is the best option for Fujifilm raw files. #fujifilm #gfx100

The GFX has no Xtrans, so I would not suspect issues, the issue was caused by the xtrans, because the algorithms out there are better handled for bayer, and yes, Lightroom has improved there as well , but it is still slower, just compare a batch against Iridient X-Transformer

The one thing I do like Lightroom for better, is their perspective correction. Easier, faster and generally more accurate.

    Interesting!
For me it's about the platform that I know and have a workflow in!
I could probably get more out of my raw files in capture one but I am already paying for the lightroom and Photoshop package and I am happy with the software!
    Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the kind words, very appreciated. You're absolutely right, alot of is just down to what you're used to because the difference is minimal.

This is an interesting comparison, but you should be careful with the idea that raw processor creates more noise than another. Raw processors don't create noise. You're comparing two arbitrarily different default noise suppression settings. Any noise you see is in the raw file. You should be able to equal the noise reduction between these applications by moving settings around. Once you find an optimal setting for each, you can then compare the QUALITY of the noise reduction. But right now you're just comparing arbitrary defaults.

My switch to Capture One from LR was primarily based on higher ISO images, the quality of image at say iso 6400 was significantly better with Capture One. Fujifilm x-t2/x-t3 etc. At base iso all pretty much the same, albeit I do prefer the colour controls on Capture One.

When I first switched from Sony to Fuji in 2017, Capture One was the only game in town for Fuji raw files. Fast forward to today, it’s not surprising that Lightroom has caught up. What keeps me using Capture One is that it’s just a better photo editor.

I moved from Lightroom to Luminar Neo last year. Raw support for fuji seems to be good.
It took a couple of months for proper support to be added for the new 40mp sensors. For a little while I was having to convert the raws to dng. That's probably pretty standard for new sensor releases from all manufacturers though.

I highly recommended that you take a look at Fuji X Studio. you will see the colors from there looks way more accurate than LR & Capture One.

But you miss one point. This cameras both are Bayer sensors... There was an issue and some say that still occurs when Lightroom process X-Trans sensor based .RAF

Yep you’re right, I covered x-trans in an article on fstoppers.

You are comparing the initial build-in editing for the two applications. That is a matter of taste. Any discrepancy can easily be adjusted to make them match. I think it's more interesting that Capture One is now turned into a kind of VIP app for people who are ready to pay twice the price for a subscription - compared to Adobe. Interesting how vanity can be exploited.
