It makes such a big difference with story-heavy games and I think too often they settle for outsourcing and 'good enough' localization.
Yeah, it's a HUGE problem in the Japanese-to-English translation situation because most translators to English are just BAD. Not only do most of them not even try to translate the spirit of what's being said (because a big part of Japanese is both the way something is said and the implication of what's being said, not everything is just always stated outright), but a lot of them (looking at Crunchyroll and Viz) love to add their personal changes that they think "sound better." My Hero Academia is a huge problem, with everything from Full Cowling (it's Cowl) to Heartbeat Distortion (it's Heartbeat Fuzz), to Lemillion (it's LUmillion - look at the kana of his name, it is LITERALLY LU, not LE, there is no arguing this despite what 99% of translation fans will tell you). It can seem like a small thing when it's a name, but names matter. What if the main character of an incredibly popular English series was, I don't know, Aang, and a Japanese translator decided that Oong sounded better? The author should be respected, and the work should be done to translate the spirit of what's being said while respecting the author's choices.

It gives me the same feeling of hearing kokoto village's theme in Fatalis' theme in mhworld, but twisted in a way like the village is being burnt down and eaten by Fatalis itself. A happy theme that fell into despair.
Max's face on the thumbnail is me every time combat was shown. The character action game influence is so obvious, from the attack design and flow all the way to the game seemingly grading your actions in real time with the star system. I mean heck, the dude basically uses Lunar Phase at around a minute thirteen into the trailer lol! I am so freaking hyped for this game, like my god.
He mentions this game is indeed focused more on summons, and as we’ve seen is going back to classic fantasy. A similar thing happened with FF9 as it was both a return to classic fantasy and had more of a focus on summons being integral to the story. We’re basically seeing history repeat itself, but with better technology and I’m okay with that
Summons are a focus of pretty much every mainline Final Fantasy. And I'd argue that FFXI, FFXII, and FFXIV are "classic fantasy" at least in FF terms. Like, sure, FFXII airships had a bit of a spaceship look to them, but the game was all royals and knights and shit.
Man genuinely your reactions to Final Fantasy are cherished with high regard, you're so full of joy with anything related to FF and it's so nice to watch. Thanks for your content man.
It's interesting looking back at this a year later. I'm personally glad we did another year of development. The polish is the most important part of any type of development, and man, this game is super polished.
I’m honestly glad that Modern Final Fantasy is currently the way it is. Everything about this trailer looks absolutely insane! It gave me lowkey DMC vibes even more so than the first trailer. I honestly don’t care too much about when Remake Part 2 gets released anymore. Right now, all my attention is for XVI. Hopefully I’ll have a PS5 by that point to play this.
These guys can take as long as they need to. The quality of management Yoshida-san gives to FFXIV is insane, hopefully this game will get the same treatment. Speaking of, hope Max returns to FFXIV. Man hasn't even started Stormblood yet.

Can't believe you missed mention one of the best parts: Yoshi-P roped is main-man Soken in to do the music, so you can rest assured that every track in this game is going to be an absolute banger. :D
It looks like the character is switching between summons power similar to DMC5 switching between stances. Each summon power will probably have different attacks and elemental properties. And the 3 bars are most likely ATB bars like in FF7R.
I do love classic Final Fantasy with turn-based combat and a party of adventurers, but FF16 looks cool enough for me to give it a shot. I don’t think waiting until 2023 is a big deal at all. Remember how long it took for FF15 to come out after being announced? 😂
15 was a mess of a game in its development. They tried to fix it with Royale edition but is like covering shit with gold. Played it in its entirety but the only thing that had me interested was the villain and actually wanted him to win lol.
Just gonna throw out to anyone wanting a SE game with incredible turn based battles to play both Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest XI S! It's criminal how underrated those are!
that last part. showing all the summons, the names, the ff theme in the background. It looks like Clives summons are gonna be the other party members per se as theyll give him different attack styles and abilities. Honestly Im ok with it cuz the game looks fun as hell.
it will probably have an insane story and world building and character development though, so im fine with it, but i do want to see parties too in other games, so it doesnt because a trend to have solo characters.
@@princemwamba5230 ok, and I didn't play Crisis Core I'm not saying no party members can't work, nor telling people not to get the game, I'm just saying personally no party members in an FF game feels wrong to me and I might end up passing on this, that's all
I’m very much new to Final Fantasy. But the one thing that’s always stuck out to me are the summons. A bunch of reoccurring borderline deities that link the franchise. And now there’s an entire game that focuses around them. Holy shit, I’m so excited.
I think it's just the first one whose marketing has been focused strongly on the summons from the get-go. They've been central to the plots and worlds of several games before this one - X, XV, and most relevant, XIV spring to mind, though there are plenty of other examples. I recommend all of them.
For anyone worried about Clive being the only party member, just remember FF7: Crisis Core did it too and everybody loved that game. Long as Clive is cool and a good character and he's fun to play with his different eikon modes, I don't see an issue with it.
I don’t think people are necessarily trying to argue that the game will be bad with only Clive as the playable character (and maybe the Eikons when you take control of them). It’s more people are saying that having party members (and typically playable ones) is an element pretty integral to the Final Fantasy Franchise, particularly the numbered single player entries (it’s part of why character switching being added to FFXV made many happy, or people enjoying the added Trusts and RP solo duties with the supporting cast in FFXIV is enjoyed by many FF fans). So the game could be game of the year quality, but people at the same time could still feel like something is missing if party members/other playable characters are a feature absent in the game.
Crisis Core is overrated as fuck. But I don't really have a problem with there being only one playable character, as long as you get expanded movesets and abilities. In Stranger of Paradise, the party members were fucking useless but I still enjoyed it because of the variety of abilities the game gave you. I hope it's the same case in 16.
@@allaccordingtoplan5560 if you enjoy button mashing X while cutscenes interrupt combat every 5 seconds, then go ahead lol. Zack's story was pretty nice and the ending was amazing, but the gameplay was god awful. Worse than Dirge.
You gotta understand, now a days, games take way longer than ever because of the super detailed assets. Making the game assets probably take twice as long as programming the systems and gameplay. Unless they outsource the asset creation, which they honestly probably do, they have to or else the game would take even longer. The game industry might need to think of a new way of doing things or gamers just need to accept high end AAA take at least 5 years to make from scratch. A new big business of 3rd party art houses that just produce game assets that can parter with studios to help with developing games? Idk, what the solution is, I think we just have to accept games take long to make because the graphics are so detailed these days.
@@zacatkinson3926 Omg, how did we all miss that?? Hmm so are there imposter Eikons or can anyone harness the Eikon form but some are better at summoning it than others?

I'm happy they're giving 16 all the time in the world for polish, I'm not super surprised that they've decided to do this. Yoshi knows that while people might be bummed that it's still more than a year away, it'll be worth it when it comes out and its just a really good looking and feeling FF game, the first one in a very very long time. No repeat of the FF15 fiasco or the texture mess in FF7R I'm also seeing big Dragon's Dogma similarities in the combat, I recently got back into DD (It still plays amazing by the way) and realized it visually looks VERY similar to the original FF16 trailer. They finally made summons into a representation of nuclear might of warring nations and it's fantastic from a story building perspective. It feels like Ff9s portrayal of Odin being used against Cleyra. I can't wait to spend money on this game. Summer 2023 isn't that far away.
@@m4ur1r4g3 kind of but they were underused and underdeveloped lore wise as much as that pains me to say it. They obviously took steps to deepen the lore but that was more summons vs villains/star scourge where this game feels more world war esq I guess. Imo.
I know why Max has the life sucked out of him when he saw Summer 2023. It’s not because FFXVI is coming out then, it’s because he knows that means FFVII Remake 2 is even further out. That’s the exact feeling I had when I saw it too. I know exactly how you feel my brother.
That “Summer 2023” _especially_ hurt if you been closely following FFXVI news as of recent, Yoshida has been saying for the past month or so that game is basically complete and they’re working on polishing it, but I guess no one thought “polishing” would take a year in of itself…
Yeah that's exactly it. People are like "no way this was coming in 2022", but if you listened to previous FF16 news, not only did they say the game was complete not so long ago, but at some point before that Yoshida had said that the game development was almost complete and that the game was coming "sooner than you'd expect", so yeah... I was seeing a late 2022 to early 2023 release. The summer 2023 reveal was a slap in my face but hey, my fault for misinterpreting previous statements.
"Final Fantasy fans expect a party..." YUP! You hit the nail on the head with that quote, Max, and I'm so glad you did. This game looks fantastic and even as a turn-based-loving fan of the series, I have been welcoming to the changes they've brought to the series, but if they take party building away then I just don't know how I'll feel.
It has happened before with crisis core Also it shouldnt be disheartening if it ends up being mote developed, combat wise than the ones that have parties
Im with you 100 percent. The party aspect is what got me into FF in the first place. Looks like Crisis Core and Lighting Returns had a major influence here.
I think you won't have to wait too long for a party based FF given that FF7R Part 2 will almost certainly follow this game up and have the party banded together throughout properly compared to the first, on top of most likely introducing stuff like team attacks which they gave a test run on in the Yuffie DLC.
To be fair FFVII Remake took 5 years to release, after it was first shown in 2015. FFXVI was shown in like September 2020, Summer 2023 is kinda fair. You also have to consider COVID as a factor.
Something tells me that Clive who was expected to have born/awakened to be the Dominant of Phoenix is actually the dominant of Ifrit. Their website mentions how their kingdom was surprised Joshua got Phoenix instead. But thinking back on the previous trailer and this now I wonder if Clive actually shares the Eikon of Fire powers with his little brother besides having Phoenix powers by proxy of being Joshua's shield.
I'm just glad that we once again get to actually control the summons in battle. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but so far FFX, XIII and Type 0 are the only games where you can actually control summons and use their abilities. Like yeah it's cool being able to summon them for big damage, but actually being able to use them is a different story and Type 0 does this perfectly. Also I dont mind the straight up action combat and Clive being the only playable character. Everything about it seems very reminiscent to Lightning Returns combat especially because of the "stance" switching which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm super excited, but damn a whole ass year?! 😭
I love the outro that sings the names of the 8 eikons in final fantasy theme! looking at the HUD looks like you get skills from the other Eikons! intersting if you take their powers or shared to you as the Eikon of Fire!
Going from having a party like the older games to strictly JUST one character and no party members is a bit of a weird change but I'm very curious to know how they'll execute the idea.
Their's a chance we could play as other characters during certian sections or something. Similar to dmcv where you had nero/v/dante sections. So while you're playing one character at a time it may not be the same one the whole way through.
I don’t necessarily mind the delay. I know they put out a statement like end of last year that production was delayed like 6-8 months due to issues received assets during the first part of the pandemic. So if that hadn’t been the case, we would have had it like fall/holiday season this year. At the time the initial announcement (September 2020) made sense. And then the world fell apart.
Yeah, I think after seeing this trailer, I gotta say Yoshi-P (Naoki Yoshida) is the best thing that has happened to Final Fantasy in the last decade. While I love Final Fantasy 14 to death, I think FF16 is the most excited I’ve been for a new Final Fantasy in a really, really long time. The soundtrack, the setting, the combat (Dragon’s Dogma combat guy is making the combat), the summon battles, oh my god this is going to be so damn good. Big graphical upgrade over the original trailer too. I’m so hyped man
Why does it look good? Cause it actually looks like a True FF game, no excessive Technology and modernization or Realistic bs. 13,15 and 7 Remake have made the fans craving for the franchise go back to what it's known for.
@@SyLuX636 I mean from like ff6 onwards they've had technology to some degree. 6 had mechs, 7 was... 7, 8 was filled with robots and even had gunblades, 9 had airships cloning facilities and global terraforming basically, 10 was only not extremely tech advanced because of sin but even then it was pretty damn advanced. And so on and so forth.
Now this is the real DMC x Final Fantasy game. Let’s hope that Clive will be an interesting protagonist cause if we can only play as him then he must carry the freaking story through out the whole game.
If there isn’t a party you can expect there to be a cast who make up a large part of the story. Playability outside of Clive, probably not. But each summon has a human counterpart, and so it’s clear they’ll be engrained in the narrative heavily. Akin to ff14, one main character with several “party” members who assist the story.
So here's my *slim* evidence that the game may have a party system There'd be no reason to label your health bar as "Clive" other than for consistency with the summons unless you needed to know who you were controlling. But that could be a placeholder so idk
@@RPGManoWar that’s a good observation. I really hope so. I don’t like the idea of a game without the party aspect either, but it’s never really been done in ff before. So maybe it’ll work, I just hate to have this massive open world with no party to enjoy it in
When we were told Yoshida didn't want players to have to wait too long to play the game after the next trailer, I didn't know that an entire year was "not too long"... Feels like forever! I'd have rather waited for this trailer to drop during christmas...
@@Estxoxo "basic". No, not really. I want the core of what makes a final fantasy game. 7 Remake had it. This won't. It's not just combat, it's lack of a party, it's the theming. Maybe YOU will "move on", but the series won't be what the fans fell in love with anymore if it just becomes another 1 character action game,. Also, if you think FF games are at all "basic" you haven't played very many.
This might be like some Fal'Cie/L'Cie shit where Clive has been blessed with the power of the Eikons or something and he is able to channel their powers through him like some grand summoner type.
I still suspect they’re may be a party and either they want to wait to show that in a later stage of the marketing build up or they might even want to keep it as a Spoiler to only be revealed in the game - the later option suggests to me that other party members only come at a later stage of the game and story. I hope so, as that could be a really cool surprise.
There wasn't any info on party members so far, but who knows... They still have to show us something in upcoming trailers during the year-long wait, right? I mean, they probably wouldn't have much left to keep our interest if they had clarified whether there are party members and whether it's an open world in this very trailer. Instead imagine the impact of party members being confirmed at some later date? Also Yoshi-P said they will be doing interviews from now on, can't wait for him to be asked that question
This really seems to be taking alot of influence from Attack on Titan, all these kingdoms and their champions who are vessels for the Eikons which is a colossal transformation which has catastrophic destructive power. I'm assuming Clive has the ability to steal the powers of Eikons from the hosts because you see him with many different summon powers and I'm assuming like DMC once he defeats the several dominants he gains their abilities.
This game is ff9 + ff tactics + ff14 + dragons dogma + asuras wrath+ dmc and plus god of war cinematic This is incredible can you imagine what final fantasy can be under this new direction it’s almost like the fans are becoming in charge
I'm thinking we will see a type of Final Fantasy XV system where you control the main character and your party acts in tandem. I haven't played Strangers of Paradise, but it might be the same sort of system where you control one player with party members not being directly controlled.
I feel like even without other playable characters this game will find plenty of ways to build relationships between its cast. FF14 is an mmo but you do spend a huge amount of its story solo and they made it work there. It's just a matter of adapting to the combat style. I'm really curious how those Summon battles are going to work. Hopefully not just a QTE fest but I'm not sure how else it might play.
Could you IMAGINE if we could control them LIKE actual characters when you summon then, having each summon doing sickass moves, building up meter against a timer before finally filling it up and using their ultimate Ballin' spell!?
As far as 16 being a single player character action game, I wonder if that's where the 9 remake that's supposedly coming out comes into play? Like they specifically picked the game that was marked as "a return to the classic style" back in the day to be a modern return to the classic style so the old school JRPG players don't feel left out.
I can't wait for this story since the same person who did Shadowbringer and Endwalker's story will be writing the story. I'm also hyped for the music has Solken is working on it and his music is top tier.
Final Fantasy without a party? would be disappointing IF I'd actually liked a party of characters in a Final Fantasy. A good party hasn't been since like.... 9 imo?
Looks like the whole "we've been bound by the legacy of the crystals for long enough" was a call to leave your expectations at the door, in regards to more things than just the story, since this looks to be a character action style game.

It really was the best 'state of play,' EVER
Absolutely.
Max must be very proud! Proud to the MAX!
yeah especially the action dating game
I was watching wondering how Max would react to thos state of play
Max's face on the thumbnail is me every time combat was shown. The character action game influence is so obvious, from the attack design and flow all the way to the game seemingly grading your actions in real time with the star system. I mean heck, the dude basically uses Lunar Phase at around a minute thirteen into the trailer lol! I am so freaking hyped for this game, like my god.
some could say.. this final fantasy is getting CHRAZY
Because it has the person who made the Dragons Dogma combat system so of course it is going to be bat shit insane
Well, in X they are even more important than in IX. The final boss is a summon.
Isnt meteor in ff7 is summoning materia too ??
In x summons (aeons) are basically the most essential thing in the plot
Summons are an integral part of multiple systems in FF8

The game looks insane already and still has about 12 months of development?
Goddamn they care about it being perfect.
That's yoshi p for you
Yoshi P is just that meticulous in his development process
Leave it to Yoshi-P for wanting to give us gamers a very incredible product. Matter of fact, the man had to apologize for delaying EW again because he knew his team wasn't able to put the finishing touches in time and didn't want to anger the XIV community for giving them a half assed release of EW.

It looks like the character is switching between summons power similar to DMC5 switching between stances. Each summon power will probably have different attacks and elemental properties. And the 3 bars are most likely ATB bars like in FF7R.

@@vivalaglavii6736 I dunno maybe XVI-2?
I think it's just the first one whose marketing has been focused strongly on the summons from the get-go. They've been central to the plots and worlds of several games before this one - X, XV, and most relevant, XIV spring to mind, though there are plenty of other examples. I recommend all of them.
Max: “When’s it coming out?! Do we have to wait for another year?”
Yoshi P: “Ok.”
Max: “No-wait-“
It’s something about final fantasy music that just hits different. Gotta love it ❤️
The "and that's a wrap" came in at the perfect time
For anyone worried about Clive being the only party member, just remember FF7: Crisis Core did it too and everybody loved that game.

People are like "no way this was coming in 2022", but if you listened to previous FF16 news, not only did they say the game was complete not so long ago, but at some point before that Yoshida had said that the game development was almost complete and that the game was coming "sooner than you'd expect", so yeah...

Also it shouldnt be disheartening if it ends up being mote developed, combat wise than the ones that have parties

There's also 13, 12 Zodiac age and World of Final Fantasy
12 and its summons were fun using. Only down side is that none of them were the iconic summons. None the less it's a good time though!

looking at the HUD looks like you get skills from the other Eikons! intersting if you take their powers or shared to you as the Eikon of Fire!
Going from having a party like the older games to strictly JUST one character and no party members is a bit of a weird change but I'm very curious to know how they'll execute the idea.

So here's my *slim* evidence that the game may have a party system
There'd be no reason to label your health bar as "Clive" other than for consistency with the summons unless you needed to know who you were controlling. But that could be a placeholder so idk
@@RPGManoWar that’s a good observation. I really hope so. I don’t like the idea of a game without the party aspect either, but it’s never really been done in ff before. So maybe it’ll work, I just hate to have this massive open world with no party to enjoy it in

Exactly, I agree. Even if we aren't getting playable party members, I feel we will have a cast and they'll be a huge part of the story.
