      @edwong3 I'm not really interested in the lunar cycles or day and night in a watch, I was referring exclusively to the tourbillon.
      But it is true what you say, because having fewer complications the caliber can be smaller and therefore also the watch itself.

      How would people feel paying for a $40,000 A. Lange & Sohne made with a 10xx grade carbon steel movement instead of German silver?
      Remember the outrage when Cartier tried getting away with using plastic retainer rings? The introduction of plastic suddenly made the watches a lot less luxurious in people's eyes.

    I absolutely adore watches like these and I’ve always wanted one of my own. Skeleton watches just fascinate me with their movement. Unfortunately, as I am a lady I’ve feared that a watch like that would be too...gaudy? I don’t want it to seem like I’m trying to show off. I’m 5’1” and not going to grow any further, and as such my wrists are rather small. As much as I prefer the look of men’s watches, especially skeleton watches like that, I don’t think I could wear one on my wrist without it looking a bit obnoxious. The watch itself is lovely nevertheless.

      Wear that watch, girl! Do you! If they think you're showing off, tell them "damn right, I'm fabulous!"
      It feels good to look good, and your style is decided by you and you alone. Also, they do make smaller skeleton watches, though it tends to be a smaller selection and potentially more expensive on average just because the construction of a smaller mechanical watch is more difficult than that or a larger one.

    Visually, I love tourbillons & skeleton watches for the flashy display of engineering, but don't see myself wearing one personally as I typically wear tool watches. Maybe a more reserved tourbillon for a dress watch, but I barely wear an open heart watch I have.
    Oh, and I too was obsessed over a moonphase, but put it off due to the reasoning above. I've learned of an affordable moonphase chronograph, however, so that's the direction I'm going now. Also, while easily accomplished by checking the internet, a moonphase isn't completely useless and could be beneficial to anyone living or working around large bodies of water to track the tides & whatnot. Plus, while likely coincidences, I have also noticed customers are a bit more loony on shifts that align with full moons, lol

Others I have seen just haven't been been entertaining, to being downright boring or others are very high end and even come off as being "snobbish" from some level of this I do not, nor have have any want to be a part of... great revue. My favorites are open heart watches that are in the five and six hundred dollar range, and can be somewhat skeletonized but not the extreme that this one is... I also have been looking at them a long time and have not bought one yet but am really at the point to do so, and one I really like is the Waldhoff Paragon Damascus Royal Blue. great revue and personality, too. 😃👍

This is a big step for our era, right now you can find icons are changing. I love swiss watches but I applaud on the achievement of chinese horology ans engineering. They really can do anything.

    They should make a totally clean version with just the tourbillon as a complication. (Vacheron Constantin Patrimony) style. I think it would be much more successful.

    Can we talk about skeletonized watches for a second?
    The main reason one would want one is to admire the inner workings of the movement. Generally, this means there's something special about the movement, or it's embellished in some way.
    A skeletonized watch with, say, a basic Seagull movement or a Miyota makes no sense, which is the crux of the argument for many who dislike skeletonization. This, however, has a tourbillon, which is fantastic to view and so it makes sense in this application.
    Whether or not you like this piece aesthetically comes down to personal preference, but I don't think this falls into the "try to make it look cool and end up making it gaudy" category.

    For me the prime reason for a watch is "TO TELL THE TIME!" Any watch that has so much clutter on the dial that you cannot easily see the hands and the numerals / hour indicators is failing this function. Yes this watch is a nice piece of watchmaking BUT hopeless at being an instrument to tell the time.

    Hey I just wanted to thank you I just got into watches and you really helped me out a lot! I got the Seiko SNK805 to see how I like it and I fell in love with automatics!!! I now have the SNZG15JC and the ion monster, I really like the monster I couldn't find the Dracula model or the original black dial so I got the ion but I was lucky enough to have found the SRP307 so I now have the watch that got me into wanting watches!!! I'm thinking baby tuna next or the SUP880! But thanks for the great videos keep up the great work!

    Luxury is a combination of three things. Without all three, it's not luxury.
    1) expensive- "affordable luxury" doesn't exist. Part of luxury is the unattainability to the average person. Which leads us to...
    2) exclusivity- not everyone should be able to attain the product regardless of whether they have the money to afford it. Having something others cannot attain is part of luxury otherwise it's just average.
    3) quality- the product or service should be of a higher quality. Things like hand finishing over machine finishing or elevating the average to an art is what most people miss.
    If any one if these is missing then is not luxury, unless you're using the most basic of commodity definitions. In which case even the cheapest pos watch would qualify.

    • @elzafir
      @elzafir 5 лет назад +1

      "Luxury" is an artificial social construct, which the economists call "conspicuous consumption". There's no denying the $6,500 IWC Portuguese Chrono is a "luxury" watch. But it houses a commonplace (albeit modified) ETA Valjoux 7750 movement, which can be found in a $500 Bulova Accutron Gemini or Hamilton Khaki Chrono. That one example of the IWC watch defeats both your "exclusivity" (plus you can get the Portuguese Chrono anywhere) and "quality" argument, leaving only the "expensive" in the IWC defense. A watch brand can artificially increase their watch prices and availability, just like what Rolex, Omega and Daniel Wellington (to an extent) do.
      My point is, your three points are incomplete. The most important point you didn't include is "brand perception", which is a very subjective matter. Without brand perception, a watch can have all three points you mentioned, but still nobody will THINK it's luxury.

    The first video I watched that gives good description to ERA..... nice video. Only Federico thinks its a a very bad watch. I think he is totally wrong. I think there's not so many brands outside that would give you that much for 3 digits watch. ERA did it so well with its complications and high luxury finish.

Pretentious and entitled commenters make me laugh too so it was an added bonus. If you want a fun watch that’s a conversation piece and don’t wanna spend your kid’s college savings, sure it is worth it. It’s ok if 1% of watch collectors are butt hurt over it. They don’t represent the industry as a whole.

    The best thing about this watch is it says "hey, ya know all those Swiss watch makers charging $50,000 for their movement?...yeah, they shouldn't cost that much...the Chinese can do it for pennies on the dollar". More Chinese movements need to flood the market so Swiss will maybe stop artificially inflating their prices.

    Seriously though, I have no problem with Chinese watches. I'd even think buying a Chinese tourbillon is a great way to experience them without over spending. However, I really don't like how they campaigned against the luxury watch industry. They attribute the hefty prices to merely price inflation and exclusivity, disregarding the craftsmanship of the watch makers, and they never mentioned that their movement is sourced from China in their initial campaign, but alluding to the possibility that these movements are done by the same watch makers as the Swiss industry. Not saying that this is not a good bargain or a good product, but...

    • @j.s.3414

    • @u9520107
      @u9520107 5 лет назад +1

      @@j.s.3414 I did not say that the prices of Swiss watches or even German watches aren't inflated. And certainly there are companies with shady operations or even downright rebranding Chinese movements as Swiss made. But that doesn't justify this company from misleading prospective buyers. How many of those initial backers of the campaign know that you can find watches with almost identical movement and design for even cheaper in China?

      The Seagull tourbillon exhibit finer finissage than the jaeger lecoultre tourbillon. I have owned both and the black polish on the Seagull is actually better executed

    • @u9520107
      @u9520107 5 лет назад +1

      @@zackpointer5091 But Seagull did not try to allude themselves to be Swiss Made. They are quite proud in putting the China Made on the dials. I have not read much about how Seagull markets its tourbillons, but I don't think they place their marketing theme on down playing the Swiss industry.
      I've actually been contemplating on getting a Seagull tourbillon lately as well. I think they are priced reasonably well.

    Pretty cool to get a tourbillon at this price, and I'm generally in favour of the baroque look with all that engraving and stuff, but this watch commits a cardinal sin: the HANDS ARE TOO SHORT! I mean there's that nice railroad minute track going around the outside, and yet the minute hand is nowhere near it! The 5-minute markers are also a problem since they'd ordinarily double as hour markers, but in this case they're too similar to the 1-minute markers.
    Also, I winced every time you said "tourbill**on**" with so much emphasis on the "on".

    What about your review? Is it working? Is it accurate? Is it sapphire glass front and back? How is the polishing work? What are the materials used? What is your feedback on legibility? And the bracelet, what’s the mechanism, the leather quality?
