As a retired teacher, I just want to commend you on the videos in your collection. I am beginning mixed media again for the enjoyment of art. You answered all of the important questions that I would ask if I was in a workshop in person. I have just found your channel and am watching beginning techniques for mixed media. I did it years ago in art classes in college but not recently. I'm very, very pleased with how you give instructions and exceptional advice. I will be moving through many of your videos. Thank you SO much!!
I find things at antique stores. It’s a lot of fun. Sometimes once I get the items home, I can’t tear them up. Like some love letters a husband and wife wrote back during the war in the early 50’s. She was in Texas, and he was stationed in New York. They were so sweet. I live in Texas and wonder about their lives. Love your videos.
Watching your videos has really gotten me back with my mixed media art and drawing! When I was younger, I really loved drawing and took every art class I could up to my senior year in high school. In my senior year, I took advanced art and kept all my drawings in a port folio. I wanted to take art in collage but was told I would go no where with it. It was only a hobby. I decided to become a pre-school teacher instead because I could do all the things I love to do with the kids. Over the years, I stopped doing art but in the last year I gotten back into it! It feels like I came back to my first love! Thank you so much! I realize now there is so much to learn and your videos have been such an inspiration to me!!! Also, I enjoy the process of collage. I apply your hamburger system and it is really, really helpful! Again, thank you!
Aww, I'm sorry you were discouraged from pursuing it, but am so happy to hear that you have brought art back into your life! Thanks so much for your kind comment!
I have a Rosie, too. Was just about to give up on finding a cat when I walked into the SPCA and she hollered at me from a cage, in a room off to the side. How can you resist a cat who talks to you. And since my godchild's name is Rosie, I figured it was meant to be. BUT. We were returning to see about another cat name BoBo, who captured our attention when he stood up and up and up and was the tallest cat I'd ever seen. Then BoBo bit me when we went to pet him. So now Rosie has our heart and home, and she loves to sit on the drafting table, sniffing ephemera and drinking paint water. And oh yeah - LOVE your videos. I sent my sister, who is looking for something simple to start crafting, a starter collage kit I put together and a link to your videos.
Thank you so much Karen, I really really enjoyed watching you taking USA.l through the collage techniques. Found this very very interesting and useful too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
I think I started watching your channel when you were doing these cereal box for a journal, that started to get me hooked and then it was the faces and I am way behind on those but have them all saved and maybe next spring I will be ready to join the classes that are closed for now. I love your style of teaching and your enthusiasm. Love that you share your talent with so many. Thanks so much Big Hugs and Smiles
Thanks so so much Lori, so sweet of you to stop by and chime in!! There's SO MUCH on RUclips (especially the #100funfabface challenge prompt videos) that should hold you till then!!
You are an amazing teacher! I have been following and buying your books for well over a year. Have learned so much. Thank you for being so generous with sharing your knowledge.
Your art amazes me and I want to learn this! You make it so fun and exciting! Thank you! That girl with the butterfly on her nose!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness Karen! Thanks for ALL YOU TEACH ME!
Hi Karen! I am by no means an artist, but after doing cards and coloring stamped and digital images with markers and my first attempt at watercolor...I have been burned out. I have been watching mixed media, gel printing, junk and art journal videos. I need something to work 😩. I have been depressed, grieving the loss of my mother and health. Your special personality and love of what you do and teach is calling me! I want to thank you for sharing your talents! I would love a copy of any cheat sheets you may have (forgetfulness is my new found talent 🤔) Thanks, Debbie
Hi Debbie, I am so very sorry for your loss. Art is incredibly therapeutic, please don't let it frustrate you. I hope this is helpful to get you started: create.awesomeartschool.com/mm-hamburger-yta/
Hi Karen! I’m a super novice to mixed media, but it’s so intriguing! So, I want to get started! Glad I found you right off. Can’t wait to dig into more of your videos! Yay! I would love a copy of your Hamburger cheat sheet!
Hi Judy! Thanks for watching and you are in the absolute best place to get started with mixed media! Hope this is helpful: awesomeartschool.lpages.co/mm-hamburger/
Hi Karen, I just found you totally by accident. Just looking through RUclips using my new computer I just got. I have no clue how I ended up right on your page. First you have so much energy, exciting energy. You could catch anyone's attention. Love it, you certainly make someone want to craft, even if they didn't before watching your video. Your video was awesome, your a great teacher. And an ABSOLUTE INCREDIBLE ARTIST. THE BOOK YOU SHOWED US BLEW MY MIND!!! Incredible. I only wish I could do half as good as you. Right now I'm kind of starting out. Just put a Craft Room together, came out good. Oh boy, have I been shopping for just about everything I think I may need. Still have more I want to buy, and as I get going things will become more specific for me/. I love mixed media, junk journals (but they have really been beaten down...) it's like that is all everyone can do. I want to learn learn learn!!!!!! Not sure where to go, where to begin. I will definitely watch more of your videos, I am intrigued. Also they are contagious. Again you are an AMAZING artist. Do you ever sell any of your work? So glad I ran into you. I have angels in heaven. I hold them responsible for trying to keep me happy. Nice to meet you.
Yes, I'd like a cheat sheet! SO enjoyed this video, Karen. I've been collaging for a long time, yet still learned some new stuff from you! Thank you! I'm new to this channel and subscribing!
Ditto to Errin Witherspoon's comment. I have watched and studied mixed media art for 3 years, and I still wasn't clear on so many thing. Then I watched your video. What an amazingly simple system you have. I thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and time with us. Not to mention how dang funny you are. HAVING FUN, NOW!!! I would love the PDF of you hamburger....
Hi Karen: you are an absolute joy to watch. Thank you for your inspiration! I would love to have your hamburger system pdf. I look forward to your videos. Your amazing!
What a great idea! Sewing pattern paper! :) Old books are good too. the only old book I could never use would be an old bible. Have a collection of them - priceless. Maybe pictures from old children's books might be fun to try.
So glad I found you, I am just starting into mixed media journaling and had no idea what to use. Best videos around, for newbies with no idea what to do! Absolutely fantastic! Can’t wait to dive into more of your teaching! If you have a suggestion for me let me know. This is my first video!
Welcome! I have so so many videos on different things, so just browse through my channel and you should find the series, like this one is mixed media and they are numbered. Good luck!
Fabulous video! I remember all too vividly last summer (2018) when watching Mixed Media videos feeling all the feelings you talk about here, from tearing up old and or damaged books to what was the point of all this collaging when it was going to be hidden by paint etc. I have come a long way since then! You articulated the process wonderfully well. It is all true folks! Those big bottles of matte medium and ginormous Mod Podge has me sighing. They are not sold here in Cyprus and of course are prohibitively expensive to ship. I think that's why I am so mean in using it sparingly on the few projects I have done to date! One of my favourite papers is saving the medicine/medical information from pill packets. In fact I save all sorts of papers from day to day life as I am a keen recycler of anything I can make use of. I am in the process of making eco-bricks as well which has been an amazing experience this summer as I can hardly believe how much I have reduced in the recycling bin bags to be collected!
That sounds AWESOME Kim!!! Yes, there is so much to be done (creatively) with our trash!! No need to buy anything of the collage sort, if you don't want to!! Saves a bunch of money too!
Omg,, I’m super busy , getting rdy for holiday,, but I just had to stop and watch this video,, you keep me so inspired,, thxs so much,,, oh super excellent video
Karen, I love your videos. I purchased your hamburger system book and How to Draw Fun Fab Faces on Amazon. I have your other books on my list to buy. I want to join your classes but this virus situation has put everything on hold. Thank you for sharing your videos with us. I'm sure they are helping many people with stress and anxiety. Art has a way of doing that!! I pray you and your family are safe and healthy. 😊❤
Hi Linda!!! I appreciate all of your support and am so happy that you are a part of the wonderful art community on my channel!!! I know that this virus has put such a strain on people, and I want you know that I will always continue to post my free lessons on Friday, that will never change. I know that happier times are ahead of us all, and I hope you stay healthy!!!
I also just found you. I really appreciate the amazing amount of instruction you provide in a clear and detailed manner. I was excited to follow your video on drawing a face and I was quite pleased with the result. Thanks so much for your generosity in sharing your talent! 😍
I received an e-mail from you last week and it has been the focus of my art since then. I have had so many questions and you have answered them all! That is amazing!! My art may take a totally new direction. I am a watercolor fanatic but have always wanted to do a journal but never knew how to start. You are an amazing teacher and I want to know it all. Please send me your cheat sheets so I can begin. I sincerely appreciate you!
Thanks so much for taking the time to drop such a sweet note, I really appreciate that!! So glad you're finding the series so helpful! Happy arting to you! Do you need a copy of the Hamburger pdf? If you do, just give a hollar!
Patterns - wow. That’s a great idea! Do a collage for us! No, no, no - not piano music. I play the piano. Just could never do a sheet of music. Now, tissue paper with music notes - YES. Love them! And gift wrap - just thinking yesterday how to get rid of a bunch I have in a box - Thanks great lesson! I worked myself silly yesterday doing Christmas cards - so I’m going to see what I can do today to start the collage and do something FUN for myself.
You are funny!♡ I'm also a mixed media artist. Subscribed. Cuz I just like you and I isolate in my studio and have no friends. You look like a being i want for a friend...I can't paint and meditate and do yoga ALL the time laughing. So ill break and watch you for new inspiration. Namaste'
Yay! I am so stoked to have found you! Your channel is a gold mine of ideas and materials and techniques! 😍 I struggle with adding magazine pictures to my paintings without them wrinkling! Ugh. So thank you!! Bless you!💗
thank you for sharing all this wonderful info this is a great series and has answered many of my questions that i’ve had for a ling time can you explain more on the GEl medium versus matte medium please i would love one of your hamburger pdf and what a great idea i never can remember the sequence of the layers
Hi Carolyn!! Here is the PDF! I thought between the gel medium and matte medium demos I covered it all, what questions did I leave unanswered that I can address for you? I'm happy to help! Oh! almost forgot the pdf: awesomeartschool.lpages.co/mm-hamburger/
Wow! So glad your video popped up on my feed! By far the most informative mixed media tutorial I’ve seen. Can’t wait to devour the whole series! *I would love the Hamburger Cheet Sheet please. Thank you so much for making sense out of all the mixed media chaos. 💗
Karen still watching you and just got the part about your preference to matte medium for first contact to the board. Makes sense. Mod dodge is slick. Would not have thought of that, until is was too late. thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm just getting in to mixed media. I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing, but I like it. Right now, I'm using tea bags, old linen fabric, and my sewing machine. I do not know a thing about collage, especially what materials to use. So this was very helpful. I'll check out your other videos as well. BTW you are soooo talented!!
Hello. I loved your video. Learned a lot. Look forward to your next one and also going back to some older videos. Haven’t tried anything like this yet. Really into fluid art. Hopefully I can mix the two. Maybe?!
Thanks Karen. As always informative and fun. Hey, love that page you flipped by so fast that was black with the birds on the wire. (maybe a bonus for your Mixed Media students some day?)
Would love a hamburger cheat sheet. Have book, but would like to laminate individual pages for use in art studio. Love your videos. You make everything so clear. Helps me choose my media rather than buying lots of products that do not result in what I prefer. 👍😊
A: Rumpy!🤣B: You are wonderful!! I'm not even a mixed media girl but I came across this video and LOVE your energy!! Thank you so much for all the great info and even more for the grrrreat energy!! 💓
I would love the Hamburger pdf. I just ordered one of your books from Amazon. Thanks so much for all the info in your videos. I can't stop watching them!!
Thanks for your free You Tube videos. It's great for those of us thinking of doing something new that is out of our comfort zone. I would love to get the PDF for your hamburger method! Thanks.
You're welcome!! I'm sending you a link to the big supplies packet (it's a 9 page pdf that goes over all mixed media supplies and how they react!) that you'll need for when you watch last week's episode #5 too, here's the link to watch that one! ruclips.net/video/W0GrrR905VA/видео.html Okay, and here's the link to all the supplies info packet I was just mentioning and the Hamburger Cheat Sheet is on page 2 of that! awesomeartschool.lpages.co/mm-supplies/ Let me know if you have any further questions! HAVE FUN!
I really cannot wait to get all of your books. I'm hoping next week!! But in the meantime, your hamburger cheat sheet would be awesome!! (I also have my girlfriends out looking for some second-hand books for me!! I'm just so happy that I found your channel!! Thank you Karen!!
Yay, I hope that you absolutely love them, and thank you for supporting my books! Hope you enjoy this and glad to have you here! awesomeartschool.lpages.co/mm-hamburger/
How beautiful are you..... In a Michelle Pfeiffer's little sister sort of way. Your enthusiasm for art is uplifting and contagious. Your work is vibrant and exciting. I only found you a couple days ago. I've been missing out!!! Thanks for what you do.
I'd be interested in any of your all of your basic to advanced cheat sheets that you have available pertaining to mixed media techniques, painting, drawing. Any pdfs, hyperlinks, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thank you... I recently found your videos and have subscribed. You're very talented!
Hi there!! Here's the link to the Hamburger Cheatsheet (since you're on this series) create.awesomeartschool.com/mm-hamburger-yta/ As far as the other ones go, unfortunately I have over 30 cheatsheets (over 200 pages of them total!) so it's not possible to link them all here. You can, however, grab them all (both drawing and mixed media) at this classroom if that's helpful! awesomeartschool.com/p/youtubelibrary

Aw, couldn't agree more!! You definitely deserve that Liz!!
I like to use old beat up books that mean something to me in one way or another. Makes the art extra special!
I love that!!!
Namaste'

Karen still watching you and just got the part about your preference to matte medium for first contact to the board.
Makes sense. Mod dodge is slick. Would not have thought of that, until is was too late. thanks again!
You're welcome!
I'm so happy to help!!! ENJOY!
Hello. I loved your video. Learned a lot. Look forward to your next one and also going back to some older videos. Haven’t tried anything like this yet. Really into fluid art. Hopefully I can mix the two. Maybe?!
Hi Debbie, thanks so much for watching! I have a ton of videos on here, so have so much fun digging around and finding my different series.

Thanks Karen. As always informative and fun. Hey, love that page you flipped by so fast that was black with the birds on the wire. (maybe a bonus for your Mixed Media students some day?)
Did you think I didn't have a video on that?! ruclips.net/video/X8JpUSZeUpc/видео.html
Would love a hamburger cheat sheet. Have book, but would like to laminate individual pages for use in art studio. Love your videos. You make everything so clear. Helps me choose my media rather than buying lots of products that do not result in what I prefer. 👍😊
Thanks so much, Corrie!!! Here is the supplies guide, which has the hamburger cheat sheet on page 2. Enjoy!
