Hi Mark, I've noticed for the last couple videos the frame rate has been quite choppy and it gets hard to view at time. Any reason for this? I just assume its technical issues.
Hello Mark it’s Vince from Fort Garry. Thx for the shoutout !! This was an awesome episode, seeing you install the comet hub I sold you, talking your way through it . What a wicked learning and teaching episode. I’ve saved it for myself…. Thx again Mark , well done !
Hey Mark, when removing axles from the hub, hit the centre of the axle, this will shock the cone washers loose, then just use a screwdriver in the split on the cone and twist them off. If you hit the back side of the axle flange you can just wedge the cone tighter into the taper of the axle.
I was thinking the same, Ive only done it a few times. one quick smack with the sledge on the center of the axle and it pops right out.....whether that is right or wrong is beyond me lol
You are a great person in many ways. Thanks for the information on all of your topics and most of all, Thank you for bringing back the real truck love and putting them back on the road. I also have a small tip when working on a beautiful clean shop floor is lay down a sheet of cardboard and it catches a bunch of oil and makes cleaning up the shop super quick. Thank you for doing what you do. Keep up the good and clean work.
As a fellow mechanical engineer (30 years experience in heavy equipment), I absolutely love seeing new, innovative, well thought out products like this hub assembly come to market. Good on ya, Con Met 👍
@@Hard_Right not trying to be critical. Just a fact of youtube life that once companies start offering stuff, channels inevitably change. Selfishly, I want the channel to remain the same feel as it is but obviously its better for Mark and he can progress faster

Hats off to Con Met. Having done my fair share of seals over the years, I can see the time saved during installation. Great video very informative. Scotch Brite is also your friend for cleaning seals surfaces. Thanks for sharing.
Hey bro listen I'm from SweetHome Alabama and stuck up here West of the WindyCty"Chicago for my 34hr.restart and watched Smokey and the Bandit last night and brought back memories of seeing it as a teen
As a mechanical engineering student the design of that hub is amazing. You also do a great job explaining how the part works. Happy to see the progress!

Just 1 quick tip for caging your brakes. I have an air line fitting in my truck's primary air tank. Charge the air system on the truck with a compressor, release the brakes and put in all the caging bolts at the same time. I learned this trick from the volunteer fire department in Bowden AB years ago. They kept the air system on their trucks charged all the time so they could fire up and go.
I’ve seen the fire department have the truck on air and power too. The power can run a battery tender and possibly also have a block heater so the engine gets up to operating temperature faster. I work for a trucking company and we have enough indoor space to keep the tractors. We charge the trucks so the shop doesn’t smoke out the mechanics every time a truck is fired up to go out.
My nephews are truckers in California and I will show them this video. I only wish I had known this years ago when I was driving. Oh well never too late! Great info and keep them coming!!
Hi Mark i love your attention to details not many people would worry about trying to find the exact correct size wheel but honestly it makes a difference. One thing that stands out for me especially with this filming angle is that the battery box covers on the original didn't have a second step notched into it. It's essentially a smooth step i have been building a 1:25 scale snowmans rig i could only dream of building the real thing i love your channel and this build is my favourite thing to watch on RUclips it takes me back to when i was a kid. Love your work mate
Just as many RUclips videos have helped me repair the various car issues I have had, I am sure this video is going to help an awful lot of Owner/Operator truckers. Nice video. Really well done
Hi I've just recently found your channel on RUclips and I'm enjoying it a lot I love smoking the Bandit movie and it's awesome you're doing a tribute truck and trailer I'm looking for your earlier shows cuz I started watching the show when you started sanding on the truck I'd like to see what it looked like before you started all the work thank you and have a good day I enjoy your RUclips show Paul
Its been 40 years since I tackled changing semi tires, reverse threads, repairing flats and working with split rings. I personally never worked with split rim, but one of my Dad did. Believe it or not, we did not have a tire cage at the time, so we used the leg of a car lift set down on top of the wheel. This one time the rim did not seal during inflation and boom that car lift leg was blown off and the rim hit the top of the ceiling! God was with everyone around that day ! My dad fabricated and constructed a tire cage that day which everyone was appreciative for -- ps never told my mom 🙂
this hubs are a great invention ! i see them the first time (i learn mechanik on Mercedes Benz Trucks 1985 - 1989, still in the Trucking business) Well done !!!
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 your eye for detail is amazing. The technology going into the pre set hubs these days is amazing back when I was doing them there was none of this. This process is so much better and seems quicker. And yes those collets can fly off and do damage if your not careful. Brings back memories watching you working away on the Snowman. This truck is looking great 👍 .
Awesome. I usually bang the axle flange in the middle of the outside and it pops all the cones together. If I have a plug in the hub I empty it through the plug, less messy. Those hubs are slicker than snot. Wish I knew before I just spent $800 for new drums for my motorhome.
Great job changing it too make it correct too the movie.I Just saw the Smokey and the Bandit movie yesterday at the Galaxy Theater in CA. .Their limited showing it across the U.S. right now.,LOL.I Never get tired of that movie.🤠👍Have a great day.

Great job Mark I'm learning more and more every time I watch your videos. Been a fan for a while ever since you did little by little keep up the great work my friend.
I was thinking that Mark could have caged them all at once if instead of putting the air to the can, he could have a fitting on the main reservoir and aired up the whole truck at once. This is good for the future too. This way he can pre fill the truck so it doesn’t have to idle in the shop to build air. That way the building doesn’t fill up with smoke.
Awesome as always. Try smacking the end of the axle studs with a large brass drift and hammer. It normally will pop the cones loose. Keeps you from mashing up the axles.
Nice educational video again mark. There’s two types of men in this world. Men that can. Men that can’t. Your definitely a man that’s puts he’s neck on the block and has a go at everything and in my opinion you do a bleeding good job. The paint on the Kenny looks lovely. Nice work brother. Stay safe regards from south London England 🏴
love the fact you use proper torque technique ... I worked Jet Engines for close to 20 yrs and it would drive me up the walls seeing people click click click click the torque wrench
It is the details that will make Snowman's rig live again! I SURE HOPE they are doing this wheel correction to the original Movin' On 1974 VIT, I can't find any updates on that resto. Last I saw, they were to swap out the Pete air suspension, take it back to Torsion.
I think it tells a lot about you by taking the time to change all of that just to be original. And like you said, nothing goes to waste. You can use it on another project. Great job man.
20 years ago I worked for Iveco Ford Truck in the UK. We had a Euro Star with a leaking hub seal. It was a one piece bearing and seal the unit cost £600.00 each. The torque setting for that was 1200Nm we ended up using a torque converter and a 2foot torque wrench set to 200Nm. As for the half shafts. We used to have recovery drivers pull the wrong side out. So the diff lock would drop and we would have to engage it then put a broom handle in the axle to lift the ring up. Then we could put the half shaft in. With the lock ring. We had a mechanic and his appearance do a job on a small 7.5ton truck. A day later it came back with binding brakes. The mechanic I was working with was given the job. When we stripped the end of the the axle we found out that the lock ring wasn't seated properly. So it hadn't locked, if it hadn't been for the fact the truck had disc brakes the whole hub would have come off. Also for the sake of your back, when you use a torque wrench work with gravity 😁 Loving the progress Mark greetings now from NZ
You can put wire between the cap studs or some bar or tool in the axle to catch the bearing so it wont fall to the ground and put shop air directly to tanks and you can cage all the brakes at the same time. Dont go cheap on the hub seals you should replace them when you put the hubs to duke they can be damaged and start to leak. I have had a few cases where i've just put new hub seals and taken the hub off and put back and few days later they have started to leak.
Like another guy mentioned below, I use a hydraulic floor jack with wheels to slide the hub or hub+drum combo in and out. Shim with a 2x4 as needed to keep it standing up. It's a pain, but saves your back. Good work!! I have even used plywood underneath when working in the dirt so the floor jack will roll easier.
Hi Mark, just a thought.. when removing the hub... stick a floor broom handel with the broom head still attached up inside the axel tube, save dropping the outer bearing when removing the hub .. I beleive that you can also get Cone removing pliers ( James Pretty was using a set to remove the cones on his trucks... N Lastly if you have a 24mm deep socket on the impact range, thats the same size as a 15/16 imperial socket :) :) Keep up the good work .. Nice to see the trucks moving forwards .. Andy UK ..

little piece of advice twin sticks next time make sure to pack the inner and outer bearings with grease that way they don't burn up
@@JasonVoorhees997 they sit in an oil bath so as long as you fill the hub before you drive it 👍
