On this episode I continue with the ongoing restoration of this 1979 Kenworth W900A truck to turn it into a tribute movie truck and trailer to the one used in the 1977 classic movie Smokey and the Bandit with Burt Reynolds, Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason. If you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for??? “Just wanted to tell you, your fellow CB’rs are mighty proud of you out there?”
So awhile back I sent my movie correct PACE CB 145 to B&C radios in West Virginia to get refurbished. Now that it’s back and better than new, I gave my friend Blake (Fly,Weld,Fabricate on RUclips) the CB and PACE 10-4U police scanner and asked him to build a movie correct mount that won’t bounce around like Sally’s knockers when I’m driving down the road. He did an amazing job and once installed it was solid as a rock.

You don't have to drill holes for the CB cables Mark they are already there. The rubber grommets above the doors are for the cable. Just run the cable up the inside of the pillars and behind the headliner, you can feed the cable out the holes to the antennas. The grommet is split to make the task easier.

I just wanna say thank you for all the awesome videos! I have a 1980 359 Peterbilt that I ran over the road but unfortunately I recently got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. I'm 37 years old and hopefully I can start restoring it before putting it back on the road. You are a huge inspiration to me!!!!!

Seeing progress on this truck always makes me smile. I actually put a CB in my Trans Am when I participated in a convoy. That made a whole new experience.

You should put some type of rubber, plastic or similar between the radio, and bracket. Also using a plug to wire that radio in as opposed to hard wiring would be a better option if you ever need to remove the radio to repair it or service things in the dash. JMO

Be careful keying up inside a garage, you can damage the finals in the radio. Awesome build. Congrats on closing in on the finished product!

Mark, the screws you put in going down on the cb mount are intended to apply pressure to the tabs welded directly above the cb. as you tighten them they will apply pressure to the top of the radio and hold in in place. the rivets on the bottom are not a good idea. thay may make contact with the electronics inside. A thin sheet of rubber under the radio would help keep it from moving around

Snowman ops I mean Mark having a little. Movie magic installing the CB and Scanner at 22:00 the dash pad is flopped over to the side and at 22:05 it’s not. That said I think you could park a truck on that CB bracket/mount that Fly, Weld, Fabricate fabricobbled up for you

Mark, make sure to have your SWR checked on your CB radio. To much transmitting with bad SWR "can" damage the radio. Plus, if your SWR is calibrated properly your radio will work much better.

Those antenna connectors come apart . You only have to drill a hole the size of the wire.

Marc, on you're new wire strippers, there is a little wheel in the centre that adjusts the tension for different guages of wire. Great bit of kit. So when is the Trans Am coming??

Something occured to me while watching this week. I'm sure the guys at B&C or someone in the comments mentioned that you should get a SWR meter and check your readings. In a perfect world, which this is not, it would be 1:1 on channels 1-20-40, those three channels will tell you everything you need to know. Realistically anything under 1:1.5 will give you the best signal. I've been told that a SWR reading over 2.5 can/will damage the radio, depending on how high the ratio is. This damage only happens when you are transmitting. You've got that nice custom rig, I'm sure you'll want to play with it (especially when Skip rolls around), so I wouldn't wait on making sure it's squared away.

Mornin Mark Really like the install it looks great, I watched the build on Blake's channel so it nice to see it fit so nice in the snowman. I used to have an original manual for installing CB radio's that gave lots of good tips for hiding the wiring, I will keep my eye's open for it and if I can find it I will ship it off to you, no promises but I will try. Truck is looking awesome. Cant wait until its finished. Too bad you are north of me. We have a big truck show that happens annually in macungie, pa. Would love to see it in person one day. Watching this gets me fired up to get into fixing up my mack b61. Im going to try the same thing and get it up on RUclips here. Not many people put trucks of that vintage up on here.

Hey there Mark ! I love all your Trucks and Watch your Show every week . I see something on the Kenworth that needs a real quick fix .
On the sides of the hood where you have the Kenworth name badges, or name plates , what ever they are referred to as .
I see the 3 screws just under the name Kenworth .
I think if you would just use a small brush or I guess you could even spray from a can . Please paint those screws black so they blend in much better . Personally I just think the screws are distracting . Looks weird .
Black be much better . Give it some thought . Stand back and see what you think would look the best .

Great video as always.. but you should really find a CB Guy who can check your SWR.. it's a simple meter that makes sure your antennas are matched to keep from burning out the finals in the radio and helps it reach out better.

Hey Mark;you should think about going to MATS next year;and take either Little By Little,or the Iron Duke to the show.Jade Trucking out of Ontario Canada;had a stretched 1973 Peterbilt 352 Pacemaker COE with a tag/pusher axle for hauling heavy,wide & oversized loads,in this year's show in Louisville,Kentucky.
I agree with you need to go to the Mats show with those trucks I’m almost starting to think you need to leave LBL unpainted that white hood is almost becoming trademark

When I watch the movie last you really can't see the mount that holds the CB radio in.
I honestly thought the CB radio was actually just mounted directly to the dash but it wasn't it was mounted to a mount that stuck out a little bit as you pointed out in a movie clip.
I did not know that was a calculator on the trucks dash in the movie, I always thought it was a phone because they were in the correct year to have phones.
At least I think they were in the correct year I could be wrong.
Keep up the good work can't wait to see it finished and I think I'm going to have to try to find myself a pair of those wire strippers because they look like they work great.
