Correct gain staging minimizes clipping. Many people prefer boosts anywhere from 3K to 9K depending on the mic because it shapes the harmonics, adds fullness, openness, etc.
I just want to say that I have never seen such a clean channel, with so much video/content quality. The playlists that are on this channel make and sense, answer so much questions and save a lot of investigation time. I hope that you read this message and get a boost of making even more videos. A good test regarding off axis rejection is actually using it out in the wild. The Rode NTG4 is unusable for recording natural soundscapes such as e.g. birds at a pond, while the similarly sounding Rode M5 performs excellently upon off axis. I suspect this mic will perform better than Rode NTG4 with off axis, as it barely seems to color off axis at all. But it is hard to test indoor, the NTG4’s terrible off axis isn’t that obvious to me when testing my own voice. Also your content is *very* much appreciated and I hope you can find a good balance where it isn’t stressing you out too much. Cheers dude!
This a relief. I'm a film student specializing in audio, which means ill need my own kit. the industry standard is the Sennheiser 416, but two would set you back over $2,000, so its good to see Deity is a worthwhile option for us industry new guys.

Oooh, I just realized that you forgot to mention how it is also biased against RF interference, which keeps those pesky cell phone and power strip electromagnetic waves at bay. One of many reasons that make this a wonderful podcast, VO, and on-location mic!
Agreed with SoundSpeed, and the interference tube creates most of the issue with tight rooms with perpendicular walls. Go check out the Oktava Mk-012 with different capsules attached. The cardiod and super-cardioid from pencil condensers are super useful indoors.
@@insanejughead At a computer the MK-012 will pick up too much off the rear if sitting at a computer. I used the MK-012 for the first 2 years of my career as a full time boom op and know it's limitations.

@@insanejughead Both lobar and supercardioid patterns have rear lobes that will pick up reflections off the monitor. Even a cardioid will pick up too much off a table unless cued hard off the table.
I saw a video from Parker Walbeck comparing the S-Mic 2 to other Shotgun Microphones a few days ago an in this comparison it turned out that is in fact not that great of a microphone. Therefore, I was even more surprised that you reviewed it so positively.
Just watched it. There are a few things. 1st, I do point out that I’m not an expert on shotgun microphones. I don’t boom stuff frequently like it sounds like he does. 2nd, I’m not surprised that microphones that are nearly 2x, 3x, or 6x more expensive out performed it. As far as the vmp+, I have used it and do not like the larger presence boost on that thing.
The Deity was modeled to be in between the NTG3 (durability) and MKH 416 (audio quality). I'd say they hit the mark. Go see what Curtis Judd has to say about both the first Deity, as well as the S-Mic 2.
I had a friend that used this very mic for his Shotgun Wedding. However, when he plugged it in it blew up thereby ruining the entire ceremony! LOL............Nice review................ :)
I do think it's worth the money. If you like the flatter sound, and are looking for a mic that won't be affected by humidity, and can handle a beating, I think you'd be happy with the purchase.

I bought a zing you bm-800 mic, an amazon basics 8ft xlr cable, & a behringer U-phoria umc22 audio interface. I downloaded the audio driver for the audio interface. I have to tap the mic, or yell for it to pick me up at all, & constant feedback buzz coming through. I’ve tried everything I can think of but I’m 100% new to audio equipment. I dont know how is figure out if I got a faulty mic or audio interface seeing as I have no other mic, & no other interface.

Question: I've bought two of these recently and have a Focusrite 4PRE-USB interface. However, when recording with both of these mics, using the phantom power of course, I have to crank the 4PRE gain up to 8-9 and boost the audio in post by 5 to hear anything. What am I doing wrong?
by "recording with both" I mean both mics act the same: not recording with them simultaneously. FYI: I'm on a MacBook Pro, Catalina, and using Final Cut Pro.
That doesn’t sound right at all. Does the red pre have any kind of pad options on it? If not I’m not sure what would cause such a huge delta in performance. I guess I should ask how far away from the mic you are?

hi! to podcastage and any mic experts out there, i’ve been none stop for weeks searching for a new microphone and i just cant seem to find a right fit for me. for starters i do film in a loud environment, when i record i can fix it in post but mic tends to have static noise, i sometimes stream aswell so. i’m looking for a good microphone that doesn’t really pick up that much background noise, below $30 if possible, if i need to get an interface thats fine ( pls suggest aswell ), i dont mind xlr or usb, just worried about the usb cause im windows 10 and people say it tends to make noises. please help me out, the mic i use now is literally my ps3 camera haha. ( but i use it on a computer )

@@shivanshtiwari0078 My recommendation is to give a solid look at the Samson Meteor. With some patience, you can find one cheaper than list price online.
If you have a cap of 40 dollars AND you want a condenser mic good enough for recording, then you need a reality check. I would suggest at that price range to stay with dynamic mics. Cheap condenser mics are not usually that good. However, you may be able to find something used on Guitar Center's website that is close to that price.

I was thinking about the distance and I tested it about 3-4 feet away when it was next to the camera.

If you have a cap of 40 dollars AND you want a condenser mic good enough for recording, then you need a reality check. I would suggest at that price range to stay with dynamic mics. Cheap condenser mics are not usually that good. However, you may be able to find something used on Guitar Center's website that is close to that price.
