@strainreign against the White Sox, coincidentally.😅 At least that's who finally caught him. Who knows how long he'd been doing it before he got caught.
@@zakkeil3954 no, the dolans are one of the richest owners in baseball. They’re just cheap and play the market well to maximize their own profits while not giving a damn about fans or success in the league
It wasn't thr money. It was the opt outs. Albert had yearly opt outs, so he could be one of the three highest paid players. Albert opted out and signed with Baltimore.
It had better be all about the money. Those teams aren’t loyal to any player. So why are players expected to be loyal to the teams. Get the money when and where you can because as soon as the players bodies start slipping so does a team’s loyalty.
This was back when fans were often angry at the salaries...of the players. There was not alot of reporting on how much the owners were actually getting.
Scariest dude in the league but one helluva player. Never forget him destroying Fernando Vina on the basepaths or refusing to take first base after being hit by a pitch.
I enjoyed Belle immensely on the field and he is still one of my favorite Indian players, but the whole story includes the fact that the clubhouse did not like him. Everyone kept a distance from him because he was so down right mean. But I wish he had stayed in Cleveland as well, along with other greats that could have retired there and were traded.
I was a Big Red Machine fan as a kid....went to alot of Indians games with my buddies back in the 1990's & early 2000's.....Those Indians teams were comparable to the Cincinnati back in the day....never got over the hump. But for starting 8? about as good as it gets
He AVERAGED 38 Homeruns and 120 RBI with a .295 batting average for 8 YEARS. A bad hip forced him to retire at 34. Or he would have hit 500 plus Homeruns and batted almost .300. There’s a crazy stat he accomplished I can’t remember exactly but it was something along those lines of most seasons in a row of 30 plus Homeruns and 100 plus RBI it was Albert, Jimmy foxx , Babe Ruth, and Lou Gehrig.
That all may be, but he should’ve stayed. His career went nowhere after Cleveland, although he did have great personal numbers. Kyrie Irving’s career is headed that way too.
I really don’t blame Belle for taking the offer with Chi-Town. At least, not now. He got a better offer after he played for Cleveland. Sure, he could be problematic, but he was a hell of a hitter!
I always find it hilarious when players get vilified for signing for more money as if the people throwing the muck wouldn’t do the same thing if an employer offered them double what they’re currently making.
These teams are all about the money when it comes to asking players to take team friendly contracts or trading players away, but the moment a player decides to go where they can make more money or pursue a better situation they’re immediately called greedy and selfish. It’s a ridiculous double standard in sports
He was a bad ass!! Hit 50 bombs, layed out Fernando Viña, without retaliation and once got pegged by a pitcher and refused to go to first base because he wanted to hit! As a former ball player and someone who loves baseball, I can appreciate that.
F’em…. They mess up and then talk ish on the player
Ridiculous
It was the time period. It was for the way he looked. It’s very easy to see that.

John hart couldn't look bad..
That squad had a Prime Albert Belle plus young Jim Thome and young Manny Ramirez.
And then he came back to Cleveland and the fans embarrassed him tremendously.
To this day, still my favorite player of all time
I remember this. He simply went to the highest bidder. He could have stayed in Cleveland if he really wanted to and been very wealthy.
They essentially replaced his bat with Matt Williams.
His Unicom season of 50/50 was ridiculous. Still the only player ever with 50 home runs 50 doubles. Guy had 9-10 all star years. He was scary good
Corked his shiz

Team when they lose their player: "He's greedy"
Team when they cut their player:
"It's a business"
This dude was the angriest, most badass player, along with Randy Johnson, of his era.
He was a middle linebacker playing baseball.
TUH!
20 mil/2year contract had Cleveland thinking bluff?
Damn Cleveland really is either cheap or broke.
I’ll give u a hint, it’s the first option.
Can't it be both?

Both sadly. Our owners have always been cheap and never want to spend money and give the fans what they want
Albert is a hall of famer
Lol 🎉

He chose the money, plain and simple. Why even pretend otherwise???

AB was a beast. He was a masher and a great hitter

As a kid growing up in the late 80s and 90s Albert Belle scared the shit outta me. I was a Detroit fan, glad he’s doing ok.
Cleveland still loves you Albert! They should've matched, you were a monster!!

I heard this man was a gentle giant in the locker room
Lol- smashing the thermostat to keep the locker room ice cold.
Who is this talking? I know damn well this ain’t Albert!!!!!

AB was my fav and I think smartest hitter of all time.
He should have taken the money and should never feel bad about it.
I agree. That I don’t blame him for now. There was a time in my life which I did, but certainly not anymore.

The best way to describe Albert Belle is to compare him to Ving Rhames.
Ownership will always lie, deceive and desecrate a players name. Have the gall to talk about “loyalty”. Fans stand right behind owners blindly.

that's albert belle? he seems so sweet. you sure it isn't an actor?
What did he think of Baltimore?
Don’t ever give the owners a discount
YOU ARE LOVED IN CLEVELAND ALBERT
john Hart is a tool
HOFer!!!!
Joey Belle was A Bad Man 💪🏾
Hmmm
Does Albert Belle the wise still whoop ass at his old age
Jo-ey.... Jo-ey....
Man, Albert is looking like a high school janitor now. Sad because he use to be a beast.
Sadly that is the last time reinsdorf paid a player top dollar money. Then he immediately let Albert go to Baltimore because he is a cheap sob.
Albert opted out. He had opt outs in his deal. He wasn't released.
Whats higher, batting avg in your last season or your A1C?
This guy was a dirty ass player
how so
Obviously you haven’t seen his highlights of taking out players. Go ahead and look them up
He was the man though!
