Spending time in the woods with my dad, working and playing, make up some of my most cherished childhood memories. He is 90 this year, and is already planning his deer hunt for November. Phin will remember this forever.
I wish my dad would have been there for my brother and I like you are for your sons. It is because of Men like you that I have hope for our future generations. God bless you and your family and Merry Christmas! (I just got to watch this video today, 12/25/22.) ⛄ PS.. that chimney building technique is awesome! Thanks for sharing that, I haven't seen Alone season 9 yet.. 👍🤠👍
Hey Clay, i just finished your book. It was excellent and I'm not necessarily interested in reading. To anyone who hasn't read it, buy it! You won't be disappointed. I felt like i was right there with you, and with 2 kids of my own, i felt everything deeply. I can only imagine Christmas and the toy planes. You're a great Dad who not only dedicates time to his crafts but on improving himself as a father and husband as well. Much respect my friend. Take care. - Beau
From a very young age I grew up learning survival and wilderness skills. Truly some of my best memories. Thanks for sharing, it’s so nice to see other parents doing the same with their children.
Heartwarming. Brought back memories of Dad in the '50's, our Scoutmaster and his wonderful fieldcraft as a professional forester and combat experience in the South Pacific as a Marine LT. Passed along to our sons and now seeing it happen with our grandsons and granddaughters. Heart.warming.
My daddy taught me everything I know about the woods. At my age 50 he was 90, we had a talk. It was a scolding from him because I was planning to attempt to hike the entire Appalachian Trail for the first time. He said, "Go then girl but I want you to be smart not stubborn. Come home when you've had enough". What I woulda given to have him out there with me. SMH
Fen is really becoming skilled! Making memories. Pit Viper relocation was a great bonus. Lol I started your book yesterday and was impressed immediately. I am a fly fisherman. Much respect to someone who has a living legend write the forward of his book. That was really cool
Great shelter, I love that the cob fireplace turned out so well. The best knowledge explained in this video was the ending were Fen learned the ONLY way to correctly roast a marshmallow!
Ill do this with my family when my daughter gets little older. Shes a tomboy. Ill take the wife and put her to work as well. Thanks for sharing these survival videos. You'll save lots of lives. Peace be with you and I watched you on that survival show you kicked ass
Congrats on the cover of Three Rivers 2022 Fall catalog! Keep up the good you bring to family an Traditional Archery Rivers Keep up the good you bring .
Great video. I was LMAO when Fen threw that rock and grunted n flexed 🤣. He’s going to be an amazing survivalist and hunter. Props to you and Liz for being amazing parents 👊.
Your family is even more lovely than I imagined them to be while watching Alone. So happy you won. I wanted it to be you or Biko from the very beginning. I love that you guys were the last two standing. Thanks for all the amazing vids and for sharing your life. I learned how to make a fire in the woods a while back with just what was available (no lighter) and felt like a rockstar. Watching you do all this is so incredible! Beyond incredible. Well done, you.
Awesome video! Might have to try making something like this myself. So cool to see you teaching your kids all this stuff and seeing them grow over the years, they will remember these memories fondly when they are older for sure. It would be so cool 15-20 years from now to see one of your kids crushing it on Alone haha! Also really enjoying seeing the little shout outs and how you are still learning new little skills and adaptations from the friends you have made through the Alone experience. Your content is incredibly inspiring Clay, thanks!
It's life at its best, keep up the great work your mind is in a awesome spot and for your youth and others makes others think about how life should still be:) love the videos
Just watched ALONE as soon as I figured out that was you -I was pulling for ya .....I am like that is the guy who harvested Osage Orange for bow making years ago !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You did Awesome Clay way to Score a big one for the HUNTERS !!!
I can hardly wait to be back in lodge pole country. Everything here in the midwest is crooked as a dog's hind leg. Can't build anything decent. Awesome shelter fellas. I liked Fens little Hulk moment gathering rocks 😂
Great video as always! Thanks for relocating the snake. Not many people would. The snakes are much better than tick borne illness...speaking from experience.
Great to see Fen helping at every stage of your shelter build! When I saw your cob around the bundle of staves I knew you gleaned that from Kari Lee - props to you for crediting her - that worked very well.
Hey Clay, There is so much about this video that is really good. The snake handling was next level. 👌 Your acknowledgement of Karie Lee was cool. She needed a helper like you had to mix up her cob! The tree bark was very very nice! If only bark like that was always available. The fireplace and chimney were extremely finely crafted. There were several subtle touches that increased it's functionality. All in all, a great video! Cheers from Alaska
Great video. When I first heard the snake rattle, I thought I was hearing a cicada bug. With my bad ears I don't always hear tones correctly. Very few rattlers in my area. Several things I enjoy about your videos. Taking time to point out the trail plant in this video and other small woodsmanship things in your other videos are always enjoyable. And Fen's He-man poise gave me a chuckle.😁. Humor is nice.
I think this should be a class taught in high school I'm sure people would learn to appreciate our modern conveinses more, thanks for the informative vid Boss
Smart people carry a box of matches &/or a lighter. Dummies carry a fire stick/ flint, an axe, a huge tarpaulin, 15 yards of twine plus a couple of pots & pans...
Cool hut and especially the fireplace; nicely done! I wish RUclips had "smell-o-vision", I bet that red cedar bark smells amazing. Pretty cool the way you relocated the rattler, too; I hope you checked the area for a nest. Great video!
Western Red Ceder smells amazing. Brother Has some in Basement for work stuff drying out for a few years, pices with minimal bark and some with no bark.
I loved this video. I might not be able to do what you do as we don't have the option to go in the wood and do it but, I leard new things for example, how to make a shelter and fire place using these resources. Awsome job guys.
This follows the simple 8020 rule that’s always been. 80% of the people are taken care of by the 20% no matter what industry. Your son is definitely growing up to be the 20%. 80% of young men his age barely know which side of the saw blade to use to cut through that piece of wood he so easily did. Great job dad
another awesome video, just when I thought about building your shelter from Alone here you go with another one haha.. still trying to get my rabbit snares properly setup using some tips from you! keep up the great work and same as everyone else your boy gave me a laugh with his flex.
Glad to see you relocating the rattlesnake. I'm not sure the location you are filming from, but that looks to be a northern pacific rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus). You are likely well out of the range of western diamondbacks (Crotalus atrox).
Greetings from Cameron. The area where you live is known locally for having plenty of rattlesnakes. I was wondering if you would encounter one or more as I watched the video. Glad it ended well.
The two things I admire are: 1 - the knowledge you have of survival and self sufficiency.
2 - sharing this with your son and spending time with him.
Thank ya, we have fun
I'd like to add a 3rd: Being humble. Humbe enough to give credit to Karie Lee Knoke. Hat's off to you sir. - Nova Scotia
I would like to ask what tune I should learn here? ruclips.net/video/MJPqReK2rbc/видео.html
Gift??? What gift ?
Don't forget cedar 😂😂😂😂 but yeah your right
Fen is quite the woodsman! That boy has some serious skills. Looks like his parents have done a fine job raising him & his brother! Love that hatchet.
The wealth of knowledge and experience Fin has, and continues to gain, having a dad like you. Much respect Clay.
Fen's friends must believe him to have the neatest parents and coolest backyard. 😉

Nice shelter build! Glad the hatchet worked well for you.
Fine work. Maybe it’ll send some traffic your way.

This is the kind of video I get downright giddy about. I love everything about it, especially the dialogue between you and Fen as you teach him.
Solid and well done...a shelter that could last several seasons and I love that you are teaching the next generation so well...
Thank you kindly!
I loved watching you on Alone!
I'm so glad!

Great video. I especially appreciate you showing how a true outdoorsman treats snakes.
Awesome project. I grew up on a farm in Kansas and split a few hundred cords but I never knew that angle trick. Thanks

Coolest dad in the world.
I’m with Fen on how to properly roast a marshmallow, you gotta burn it!
Noooo!😆

In pathfinders as a kid...learned many Knott's but sadly forgot them all.

I've had this same "how to roast marshmallows properly" talk with my son. He still burns them on purpose. I blame his mother, she does the same thing.
She’s corrupted him😆
Point of fact: you wait until the center of the marshmallow is melted AND THEN you burn it.
I’d really love it if you would make a self short bow
not gonna lie, that kid would last longer than me in the woods
