Pie Jesu Domine,
Dona eis requiem.
Pie Jesu Domine,
Dona eis requiem sempiternam.
TRANSLATION
Pious Lord Jesus,
Give them rest.
Loving Lord Jesus,
Give them everlasting rest.
Her voice is as pure as water from a mountain.
Perfect description. ❤
Wow, Miss. Your analogy is itself as beautiful as must be your precious heart to have come up with those words.

truer words were never spoken....
Andrea's voice is at its best here, so pure and expressive, but let's not forget the others, the harmony is incredible, and how about those low basso lines? So resonant and warm. A lovely rich base for Andrea's voice to take off from and sour to the heavens.
Having sung the low bass line in performance numerous times, I heartily agree with this comment
It did not sour to the heavens, but it did soar.
She has the voice of an angel!
*soar
In 1916, to his former student, Camille Saint-Saëns wrote to Gabriel "Your Pie Jesu is the ONLY Pie Jesu, as Mozart's Ave Verum is the ONLY Ave Verum". How proud he must have been and happy for him.
How about Faure’s Canticle de Jean Racine at age 19?
@@karinberryman2009 Un chef-d'oeuvre également ! ruclips.net/video/ITjvsz0DtP8/видео.html
@@karinberryman2009 Was he really? Wow.
@@karinberryman2009 It's the only Cantique de Jean Racine!
totally agree re Pie Jesu. However there are other settings of "Ave Verum Corpus" that I like way more. I'll show myself out 🤣
I am 85yrs old, and I really find myself absolutely loving ❤ the truly beautiful female voice. ❤Mike
Andrea Haines’ voice conveys a pure quality that touches my core as, from reading other comments, it does for many listeners. Her singing embraces both sincerity and simplicity. Thank you.
Voces 8 has a gorgeous collective tone, wonderful breath control, phrasing and dynamics. I love this group for their purity of sound, and Andrea Haines' voice is uniquely stunning and ethereal. I usually find that sopranos that sing without vibrato, in trying to sound like a boy treble, sound pinched, and lose the warmth, expressiveness and roundness of the tone. But not Andrea. Her voice in Voces 8 is one I return to time and time again for its captivating beauty, easy gentleness, and thrilling heavenly overtones. Just wonderful!
OMG until hearing this, I’d never in 40 years found a version with soprano which I liked, always too much vibrato, not a pure enough tone...only boy trebles worked for me. Until now! This is unbelievably sublime!! Thank you so so much.
There is one other that I know of along with this wonderful woman. Check out Voctave. You won't be disappointed.
I have the same problem! The following is my favorite performance of the Fauré Requiem, with a soprano with every so slightly more vibrato, but pure, young, feminine, and with more of a sense of reverence and longing. It is the second version of the Requiem, the best version in my opinion, with chamber orchestra and choir:

Yes. It always bugs me a little when i hear sacred music sung like an opera diva. You might enjoy the Andrew Lloyd Webber Pie Jesu by Sissel, 2002 Oslo. (search YT "Sissel Kyrkjebø - Pie Jesu")
I agree, her tone is pure heaven!
It can only be done to perfection by a "renaissance" soprano sans vibrato. imho Voces8 did very well.
I’ve never heard anything as beautiful as this! Chills down the spine.
This is beyond beautiful - the words to describe this have not been invented
Effortless singing! Pure and angelic voices! Thank God for your gift.
Pure music. Up til now I could only dream of this Pie Jesu.
So ethereal. Absolutely divine!❤️🙏
Sie singen wie Engel. Wunderschön!
77 persons dislike this video... Definitely, some humans are difficult to understand. This interpretation is spot on : pitch, dynamics, style... everything is spot on! Fauré's music is so pure. How can someone not appreciate it?
@Jean-François Robitaille, maybe because Gabriel Fauré was too much catholic or fasciste? I don't know, it's only an assumption.
I just love you all! And Andrea, you are my favorite soprano in the whole world. I aspire to have a tone as pure as yours. ❤️🎶
What a gorgeous performance.
Pur bonheur !
One of my favorite pieces.
Lovely! One has to truly appreciate the straight tone vs vibrato.
So right and children Love it song straight
I wish I could convince my choir director of that. Vibrato has its place, especially when you want a warm sound, but he eschews straight tone in many works that really NEED straight tone, like Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna and many Whitacre pieces.
Straight treble singing, like early opera. Exquisite.
Zachary Lavender It takes such breath control. Using vibrato after trying straight tone feels almost like cheating.
I truly prefer this and I sing like this - flat tone and pure. Works well with others like-minded. Comes from Anglican Choir/Royal School of Church Music days in college.
A masterpiece of perfection absolutely amazing to have such a divine gift When I say my daily offices as a priest I will use this as background to my prayers the living God bless you all and thank you for sharing such soul-touching divine singing
Magnifique ✨
This is so incredibly beautiful and emotionally moving voces8 are so incredibly amazing and Andrea has such a beautiful and gorgeous voice
This was the first choral piece that made me cry ... the soprano soloist in our HS choir had the voice of an angel (JM in '70.)
absolutely beautiful voices from heaven 🙏✝️
Perfectly exquisite! I never tire of this. The artistry is impeccable.
Thank you for minimizing the vibrato and letting the beauty of the voice sound! What a beautiful arrangement!
Perfectly sung by all. So very beautiful.
Absolument magnifique! Quelle limpidité! Bravo et MERCI!
Perfection does exist on earth after all! Both the music and this amazing choir.
Merveilleuse Andrea Haines. Voix sublime.
Simple breathtaking! There are no words.....
The soprano sounds like an angel!
tears in my eyes... thanks 🙏 y'all
Peace ✌️
The background was simply amazing. The vocalist 🥺 an 👼 Jesus Jesus my my my my
I am absolutely transfixed by this singing each & every time I listen. How wonderful to make such splendid, sacred sounds.
Faure's requiem mass is one of the most pleasurable pieces to PERFORM/LISTEN to ever written. Full orchestra, full choir and a few exquisite solos. Pie Jesu being one.
Comment faites vous pour nous toucher autant ? ! !
Barnaby Smith, you're amazing!
Andrea, your voice. I can't even 😭😭
I like your name.
@@1Immortalmortal Hahaha. Thanks!
Together and with others we pray for every propagation of Christian songs and psalms and canticles and music in Jesus'Name Jesus 'Name
Wonderfully talented group. Love the harmony. And that clear soprano voice. Thank you to all of you.
Voces 8 never disappoints. Their ensemble singing is flawless. Their control is total, yet unstrained. Everything flows to perfection. This is unquestionably the best version with a soprano rather than a treble singing the solo. She has an amazingly beautiful voice that brings an ethereal quality missing when the piece is sung with vibrato.
What A Beautiful Gift
Of Music 💜
Great to hear a soprano not killing a pure note with the wrecking ball that is vibrato. Only a treble or a soprano that can control their voice in this way works. Beautiful
Just because there aren't many views of this, doesn't mean it is not fabulous.
Beauty in Fauré takes the form of a spacious harmonic depth, always dry, composed, without any frills.
Stunning choral arrangement of this beloved Faure Aria.
Such a fabulous arrangement, sung with gorgeous musical purity. Thank you Voces 8 for reminding us how classical vocal music CAN be beautiful, relevant and fresh.
Andrea's voice, may be the voice of an angel😪😇regards from Cracow
Wow!!!! Love this group so much. Goose bumps, and happy ears
There are superb choirs & smaller vocal ensembles all over
the world but, for my money, the Brits have the greatest
vocal tradition anywhere: this ensemble, the King's Singers,
Polyphony, Tenebrae---the list goes on and on. For precision,
intonation, blend, diction, buzz---the Brits have nailed it!
Magnifico
This contemporary arrangement still has a 'Faure' flavor about it. It's brilliant, especially because it is performed by VOCES8. Sing this at my funeral, please!
Now VOCES8 knows what an old school, retired, Anglican, US, Navy and Marine Corps Chaplain listens to all day while reading classical theology. Now, if the public pulpits--at the Cathedrals too--would work as hard in Biblical exegesis, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, systematic theology and church history as VOCES8 musical scholars do at their musical craft. You folks are benchmarks of high-end quality. We need theologians in the pulpit with musicians like this for our anthems and more. Superb work and regards from eastern North Carolina (named Carolina after those misfits of King Charles 1 and II, but I digress). All day long, VOCES8 is played here. If a millionaire, would send you some money, but am quietly retired. Conserve and preserve the classics. The theological Vandals and Visigoths are at the gates. Regards.
Song of Paradise, many thanks from Cracow🤩😇
God bless you, thank you very much 👍👍💓💓
Wow, just beautiful.
They’ve done a superb job of integrating their voices with the room!!❤
Uma maravilha. ❤
I’m so relaxed listening to this I think it’s time for a nap.
Beautifully executed and I'm glad I heard voce8 version because there is always something about them.
AMazing Song!!! well done by all!
If I could like this twice, I would. It brings me so much peace. Thank you all for sharing your beautiful talent!
Très beau choeur. Quelles voix !
Don't understand a word but feel every meaning of it! Lady in center is Angelic!!!
This is truly beautiful. My other favourite version is The Cambridge Singers, with Caroline Ashton singing soprano. She also has a pure, boy treble-like quality to her voice. However, that version is with The London Sinfonia, and these outstanding vocalists are singing the orchestration- just completely outstanding- thank you all! Q💖🎶💖
C'est magnifiquement interprété. J'en ai des frissons...
Never going to hear this one sung any better...perfecto. Angelic resonance. My brain drinks it in like a horse that has been across the desert and has found water in the well.
BEAUTIFUL
Beautiful x
Such beautiful music, rendered to perfection.
Just beautiful,
Thank you ❤️❤️
Easily one of the most angelically beautiful things y'all have ever done. Love, love, love.
Gracias KC
estoy de acuerdo !
La primera vez q la cante no pare d llorar
I can only imagine this performance would wildly exceed Monsieur Faure's expectations of an a capella version...bless you, Voces 8, once again.
Beautifull
You are perfection personified. I wish someone like you would sing my pieces.
Totally as close to perfect as human beings can get.
Exquisite
Wow......Andrea`s voice is so pure... just like a treble... a very unusual quality in a soprano.... if I hadn´t known otherwise I would think this was a boy chorister....
Wow! That pure soprano voice, and no vibrato ❤️❤️❤️❤️
All their voices are so pure and without vibrato!!!!! Thank you thank you!!!!! First time to hear this group
Joshua you might like a group called Libera a boys choir they have some clean sounds while not acapella they are pleasant
Just what I posted, Joshua! How refreshing to hear clean and pristine without showy vibrato, indeed.
It's pure transparency, a specific style. So stunning.
They sing in the tradition of the English choir where the females are to sound like boys. This style is contrasted to the Italian and continental European style which utilizes vibrato.
Splendid.
The perfect performers- being a channel through which the music speaks. No ego just utter dedication and professionalism.
So you take us into a mystic realm. It becomes a numinous experience.
Food for the soul and joy for the heart. A hundred thousand thanks🙏
Amazing and perfect soprano voice!
This is beautiful. I’m so thankful for all who created and shared this. ✨
Very nice arrangement! Of course, amazing singing!!👋👋👋
Outstanding. Clear, clean and pristine vocals without showy vibrato. What an inspiration to this soprano! #sopranogoals
Excellent! What a beautifull Sopran. A Masterpiece this Song.
Absolutely brilliant! An outstanding performance. The crystalline clarity of the lead voice resembles that of a boy soprano, added the perfection and subtle expressive nuances of a mature and skilled artist.
I also want to give honour to the choral performance - and to the arrangement. Now, rewriting the original organ comp into an a choral piece isn't a very hard exercise. Indeed, looking at the score one may easily think that Faure might have written this for choir originally, and then changed his mind. But there are some very clever details in this arrangement - probably written with this eminent ensemble in mind. Careful balancing of individual voices gives a harmonic sound picture that could never have been produced from an organ.
I totally agree with your comment.
I have performed Faures Requiem as part of a choir on 2 occasions. This is my favorite piece in the choral works. What is key with the soprano lead in this piece is that it must be a pure, soft voice with no vibratory to match the smooth nature of the music itself. Any vibrato immediately separates the voice from the surrounding tones ,overpowering the softness of the piece. Zero vibrato let's the emotion and tone of the soprano voice work in harmony with the surrounding music as one voice in totality.
I think I like the voices as background more than the organ or other accompaniments. This is one of the most beautiful renditions of Faurè's Pie Jesu I've ever heard. Ethereal and pure. Just amazing.
I love this type of Soprano, without vibrato, than with vibrato.
It sounds clear, focus and calming.
