Hello. I just read Winter Solstice in January and loved it so much! It was definitely a five star read for me. I loved every minute of it. But I am older, so that may make a difference. I wanted to Read Rosamunde Pilcher’s other books then, and reread a few of her smaller ones that I enjoyed but definitely not as good as her longer (or later) books. I also got Flowers in the Snow and other stories. These were her short stories that were in magazines, and I’ve really loved those too. Kind of like a break sometimes in reading. 😊
I would recommend September and The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher; read them so many years ago - I think I could re-read now! I remember liking these 2 better than Winter Solstice. Another oldie but goodie - Evergreen by Belva Plain. Loved your wrap up of the June Farrow book! 🤣 I have a hard time with fantasy/magical realism too - so enjoyed your comments. ( haven't read it ) I am so with you about popular books - and I almost get defensive when asked about a popular book - "Hey, have you read Lessons in Chemistry yet?" - I'm like "NO - and I don't WANT TO??!!" I'm not going to read something because EVERYONE is talking about it - ( ie: Fourth Wing )... try finding something to read that isn't picked by someone else!! ( is what I WANT to say 🙃 ) felt good getting that out! LOL have a good week! Jacqueline
Haha, love that! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am really gonna try not to read the super popular ones because more often than not I am disappointed by them! And thanks for the Pilcher recommendations as well. I’ll keep my eye out for those.
Gloria, I always love your videos and your reviews! I appreciate how you are not swayed by popular opinion, but give your honest reviews. I am a historical fiction fan as well and really enjoy your thoughts and opinions. I recently read Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon and gave it 5 stars. I also love children’s books and have read hundreds to my grandchildren from the time they were born. It’s always a treasure hunt at the library when looking for books. We love discovering books you don’t always hear about! I would recommend you check out books by Emma Dodd (i think there are 5). ❤ Many blessings to you and your family.
Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful words, I so appreciate it 💕 I'm glad to hear you loved Frozen River! And thanks for the recommendation for Emma Dodd, I will certainly pick some of those up at the library for Finn.
Hi Gloria! You and I have very different tastes in books. I tend to pick-up books that you see as lukewarm. 😂 you are the first reviewer to give any sort of a story line for the June Farrow book. Thank you for that. It isn’t even close to what I’d imagined it to be. I love that you are reading books to the baby! Take care.
Even if we aren’t similar in our book tastes, I love reading your thoughts with the books in the comments. Thank you for consistently sharing (even if it takes me ages to reply) 💕
I reaf Winter Solstice in early December last year and it was the comfort read I needed. The first Pilcher book I read was The Shell Seekers, which was well worth the length!
Hi 👋 Gloria! Loved hearing what you are reading! I was a bit meh about Winter Solstice, too, but the writing style was cozy! I’ve only also read Coming Home and I think that was a little stronger story, but it had a couple things I didn’t love either?! 🤷🏻♀️
I did a review of counting the cost om my channel. I was also a huge 19 kids and counting fan! Jill’s book was more of a tell all but I still think she has a lot of work to do. I mean she has zero issue with the buddy system!
I’m actually very interested in June farrow! I love time travel! But I put it on hold at the library instead of buying it just in case it sucks. But it sounds great!
❤📚❤️ My January reads were okay reads, but my first book of February was amazing! A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. It wasn't what I expected, better. There were friendships, found family... it was a slower read for me, but only because I wanted to savor every word.
I also read "Spells for Forgetting" by Adrienne Young. It was definitely the empty calories I needed at the time, but probably not worth recommending unless your brain really needs a break from thinking, lol.
It seems like we’ve got pretty similar taste. I read and loved The Snow Child, but have tried To the Bright Edge of the World twice now and can’t get into it. I feel like maybe the author is trying to feature Native myth as magical realism but that’s just a guess and there’s no author’s note. I also felt essentially nothing for Nimona, I didn’t find it funny or particularly moving.
You do not suck at talking about books! 😂 You’re doing great! You always keep me interested. 😊
You are sweet, thank you! 💕
I do love Rosamunde Pilcher. Coming Home and The Shell Seekers are my favorites. :)
Thanks for the recommendations!

Glad you read it and enjoyed it as well! It was such a cozy read.
If you like historical fiction/time travel check out What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon! ❤
Amy Harmon is my favorite author! I've read that one and loved it.

Can’t wait to pick up Unsinkable! I love a good maritime story & it sounds good!
It will totally be up your alley then!
I had the same thought about June Farrow just adapting to the 50s. It would be jarring to go from 2023 to 1950 to say the least.
Glad I’m not the only one who felt that way!

Thanks for saying hi, Amy! Hope you are doing well 💕
Always like to listen to you. You have great explanations of the books.
That's so kind, thank you! I don't always feel that way.

You'll probably love it, I'm in the minority with not loving it.

I have the unpopular opinion of not loving that book, but I see the appeal. It was just announced that a movie of it is coming out!
@@GloriaZThompson WOW, thank you for letting me know! 🤗

I've been drawn to Fable by her because of the cover, but after reading this one -- I'm not sure I want to go back to her writing.
I really need to read winter solstice!
Save it for next December!
Hey mama🙋♀️🐝
I also read Are You There God, for the buzzword.
I found that there weren’t too many options. But I’m glad I picked up that classic. What did you think of it?
Have you read Russka by Edward Rutherford?
I have not, but after looking it up, I am now intrigued. I'll keep an eye out for it at bookstores.
How many stars was counting the cost the duggar book?🧐
I gave it 3.5 stars. Good and interesting, but nothing profound or amazingly written.

Totally agree with you! Glad to have found someone else with same reading tastes. Thanks for commenting! 💕
