not to discredit the achievement, but these days that's not really abnormal, we had a robotics club in elementary school where we designed and programmed robots to complete defined challenges using mindstorm back in the late 90s, an era where most people didn't have any computers whatsoever
this isn't too different and the facial recognition wasn't programmed by the kid, so all he coded like is "move this motor if this, move that motor if that"
the stuff some kids do in scratch is much more complicated, if you don't know what scratch is, it's a programming language for kids that's been introduced in some elementary schools, we have kids coding fully functioning games at like the age of 8

If you're making a homemade sentry turret, you might as well just go all the way and buy the materials to make it near instant tracking and firing. Might I suggest coding a thermal signature detection as well... pricy but will add a HUGE advantage towards tracking potential threats.

@@usern4metak3ns I believe Australia has some of the tightest gun laws in the world. Airsoft guns are banned, and anything that can fire a projectile at a certain speed (think faster than a nerf gun but considerably slower than a bullet) needs to be registered and used at an appropriate facility.
My guess off of this information is that NSW police were looking for an excuse to lift him because of his money laundering video. They saw the tampon gun, and tried to get him for creating an unregistered “firearm” that he used in his own home.

Yk I was working to build an object detection airsoft tank.. I think I might use a paintball gun now. Seems more fun, just would have to make the tank either taller or longer to accommodate the CO2 canister.. my code though is pretty solid for the actual object detection, i rarely having a false positive. It detect overall people, not face.. though I could adapt it to detect a face (:
I actually did plan on using a similar method as the kid (before I ever seen any video on it), which is have a crosshair in the center of the screen and wait until the center of the bounding box equals the center of the screen… and move servo’s for X and Y until it does so… cause I’m bad at math LOL

This is 1000% something you should refine with Michael Reeves to make it faster but also able to identify human shapes in addition to faces and once it has identified an object as human it switches to just motion tracking so it can continue firing even if you turn your back to run away.
Michael would make it taze people let's be honest. Would make finding them easier since they wouldn't move until the battery ran out.
