Here's a neat history fact involving shooting people: During a speech, a man attempted to assassinate President Theodore Roosevelt by shooting him in the heart. Roosevelt, being a skilled hunter, knew the bullet didn't hit anything vital, since he wasn't coughing up blood. This was because of the steel glasses case in his breastpocket, as well as the script for his speech he folded in half, taking most of the damage. With the bullet still in his chest, he gave the rest of his speech before seeking medical attention. People began to joke about how he only survived because of his habit of long winded speeches, making the script a hundred pages thick when folded.

Small remark about what you said at about 5 minutes in: Kevlar is resistant to bullet impacts, but very much not to cutting/stabbing. There's different materials for that.
If you’re wondering how a simple nail or scissor blade can penetrate through the Kevlar, it is because Kevlar is designed to stop bullets (or at least slow down its velocity) by acting as a super stretchy net that catches and decelerates the bullet like a soccer ball flying into the goal net. Running any piercing weapon like a spear will easily penetrate the Kevlar, since it can pass through the microscopic gaps between the Kevlar fibres.
@@boredchild6631 Kevlar vests are at most stab-resistant if there are trauma plates or polyethylene sheet "fish plating" to deflect the stabs, at the cost of more weight and less flexibility
Judging by what Alex has done in the past I was starting to doubt that he wouldn't shoot himself. Oh and the bacterial zoo of kitty litter may be a lot more dangerous than you think
"If it didn't go through the back shirt, then we just need like, double this many shirts!" Is some of the most bullet proof logic I've ever heard in my life.
The Kevlar was easy to cut because it isn’t meant to stop blades or other weapons that have low kinetic energy it’s only meant to hold up against fast moving projectiles
No, and yes. It’s a fabric, a textile, which means it is vulnerable to shear, which is exactly what a sharp knife foes. However, it is extremely strong in tension, which is gonna be the resultant stress of a blunt bullet. In the same vein, it would also protect you against a pick strike which would pierce plate armor, since the tip won’t be small enough/sharp enough to pierce between the fabric’s fibers or cut them. But you are ultimately wrong because an ESAPI ballistic vest is meant to stop rifle round, not low kinetic energy impact, but it’s still a centimeter thick hard ceramic plate, so good luck piercing it with anything else than a rifle round.
Well the solution is to get all the kids wearing level 3/4 body armour as a school uniform for all schools in America. That way, the police can slack off(cover in fear) even more outside, while there is an active shooter in a school (uvalde incident)
The reason the 22 were going through more layers is because each time you puncture one, it loses a lot of it's ability to catch another one, something about the tension in the fabric being released or something. Not entirely sure though, but I'm sure someone below will correct me
What people don't normally think of when it comes to bullet proof materials, is the freaking punch you will still get and you can still be seriously bruised
Really neat video. Curiously, your initial reaction and concern about the material not being Kevlar due to being able to cut it is an actual issue. Kevlar is a remarkable material but due to the nature of how it's woven, is vulnerable to pointed object capable of going through the material and damaging individual fibers rather than the collective strength of the fabric. Non-Newtonian, shear-thickening fluids (same concept as oobleck) are used to withstand these, as they 'thicken' proportionally to the shear force applied. As such, if someone attacks with a knife or scissors, the fluid will thicken in response. You could still get around it by slowly stabbing, reducing shear stress, but if by then the person will have time to react and move away form the blade
Just a tip if you ever do this again you should layer the Kevlar with another material, I've seen something as fancy as carbon fiber to something as simple as old potato bags. Basically you want to strengthen the Kevlar by turning it into a composit. as well as you should have sown all the edges of the Kevlar and the apron together.
@@somefish9147 The point I was making is that after one or two hits - it's supposed to be replaced as it is no longer rated to be able to stop what it was intended to stop - it is SIGNIFICANTLY weaker, as the strength comes from the tightness of the threads; the impacts stretches them.
I love that it's just become an unspoken law: whenever foreign RUclipsrs come to America, they MUST do a video with guns Edit: I am sorry to everyone with eyeballs for starting this thread. I did not have the foresight to see what it would become.

Layering fiberglass cloth held together with epoxy resin can make some surprisingly effective body armor. In the video I watched, it was able to take multiple hits from every handgun they fired at it. It was just as effective as any armor you can buy. Wasn't much bulkier or heavier either. Rifle rounds ripped through it like paper, but it was still pretty impressive.
For those wondering why he was able to easily cut kevlar but it can stop bullets, kevlar is designed and woven in a way that is meant to stop sudden fast moving objects. It sucks against anything that cuts or applies constant piercing pressure because cutting destroys the weaves and constant pressure will find it's way through the gaps in the weave.
You can make body armor with epoxy, sheet metal, and marine fiberglass sheets. I'd suggest layering until you have a plate that's about 1.5-2 inches thick. That should stop most conventional handgun calibers (9mm, .45ACP, .38 Special, .22LR, etc)
If you are wondering why the Kevlar didn't work for the other guns. You essentially made light body armour. For a heavier armour, a steel plate goes in front of the Kevlar.
I feel really awesome for him that he had such a good time in America. I have been watching the safety third podcasts and it's cool watching everyone slowly roll out videos related to stuff that was mentioned I love the energy behind all of it

I thought they had no use, and that my closet full of Books of Mormon was useless after I left the church. But lo and behold, all I need is a roll of duct tape and I’ll be safe everyday at school.
4:58 Lol, as someone who worked in a factory/warehouse facility that made bulletproof vests, helmets, batons and shit like that in florida, that yellow material that looks like a towel is exactly what kevlar looks like, and yes, you do need multiple layers of it, but the construction of the fabric gives it a little 'give' or elasticity so that it may stop or 'catch' the bullet like it did towards the end of the video. Shit, that brought back some memories, lmao. Great job! You're on the right track!
He was horrified at how easy it was to puncture the kevlar, but kevlar isn't actually difficult to stab through. It'll stop bullets no problem, but not knives.
With kevlar, once it’s been shot the integrity of the layer goes down. hence why it seemed to get stronger from the hollow point to the normal 22 rounds

Yeah its such insance fabric
But what if you combine Kevlar with a layer of stab-proof fabric? 🤔

Also - kevlar gets weaker as it takes impacts. The more you shoot it, the less effective it is.
I don't think he actually wants the kevlar on the apron after this video.
@@seekerhunts no way bro.thanks a lot because I thought that shooting it makes it stronger!!
@@somefish9147 The point I was making is that after one or two hits - it's supposed to be replaced as it is no longer rated to be able to stop what it was intended to stop - it is SIGNIFICANTLY weaker, as the strength comes from the tightness of the threads; the impacts stretches them.

Ceramic will be much lighter for an apron.

Lol, as someone who worked in a factory/warehouse facility that made bulletproof vests, helmets, batons and shit like that in florida, that yellow material that looks like a towel is exactly what kevlar looks like, and yes, you do need multiple layers of it, but the construction of the fabric gives it a little 'give' or elasticity so that it may stop or 'catch' the bullet like it did towards the end of the video. Shit, that brought back some memories, lmao. Great job! You're on the right track!
He was horrified at how easy it was to puncture the kevlar, but kevlar isn't actually difficult to stab through. It'll stop bullets no problem, but not knives.
oobleck, the fabric
adding onto what you said: its because knives will just push the fabric apart; whereas bullets sort of 'ram' directly into the layers
Useless in England
