I was really feeling this scene but when it showed Kevin sleeping I lost it. One moment i’m feeling sympathetic for Frank and the next i’m laughing my ass off. I love this show
This show is so good at the emotional and comedic punches, like BoJack Horseman, but F is for Family is excellent with the sincerity in the characters. This show took a bit longer to grow on me, but I've found it easy to watch it over and over, still able to laugh just as hard as the first time I watched the first season.

It is a harsh circle. If Frank's dad was like that, it explains Frank's agression and it shows with his two sons, (Kevin and Bill) Especially Bill. How he acts towards Phillip in some episodes is a reflection of his dad while Kevin on the other hand is the eldest child that feels left out because hes always in the bad light. You could study these characters for psychology if you want to with all this depth they give them.

Frank is blustery and somewhat frustrated for sure. His bark is worse than his bite. He is good (not perfect) father. He does care about his children he is just not all warm and fuzzy- I get Frank, I like him.

Frank obviously had a tragic past, which caused him to have PTSD, along with the Korean War and all Kevin shows is a disrespectful attitude towards him by being rude or ignoring him, regardless of Frank trying to make him turn his life around. My guess is that he’s gonna be a high school drop out and will never go to college. Or, he could go through character development, like he did in the first season by concentrating on his school work to get to where he wants to.
What's great about this scene is the fact that the 'guy falls asleep while the other explains something for a long time' gag is so played out across all mediums of entertainment but somehow F is for Family managed to make it organic and surprising. I laughed so hard
The heartfelt speech is written so well and goes on for long enough that it seems seriously legit *tear*. Most shows wouldn't take it that far..... only to have it hilariously thrown right back in his face.
"It's hard to be around you sometime" that really get me. it hard for me to be around my family who always yelling at you for no reason and you didn't do anything wrong but it does happen to most people.
This was really the only time where Frank's anger towards Kevin was just. Kevin snoozing away while Frank was trying to open up to him about his own father? That was just disrespectful!
I accidentally saw the season finale first before this episode so I figured at the end it was Sue's father who was coming to stay with the Murphy's. After seeing this later, you can imagine that being able to read that letter and call him "Francine" at the end, makes the reveal at the end of the season all the more horrible.
I hate this scene because it could have been a building moment for the show and with kevin but he had to fall asleep might as well shuv his head through a freacking wall. But over all great show
I think if I would be a dad, I would be just as crazy as Frank. but I also think that if I had a father like Frank, I would be tougher and less of a passivist.

Like there are moments where i wanna root for the kid to finally grow up, but then there are moments where i just wanna slap the shit outta him. This is one of those episodes where it started out as the former but quickly became the latter.
Me too. Kevin is way too self-absorbed (I know he is a teenager) he just wants to do what he wants to do. He is cruel to Bill and basically pays no mind to Maureen, he plays on the mom's synmpathy and of course disrespectful to Frank and at every turn try to usurp his authority as a parent. Sometimes, I can see under all the rebelliousness he is a good kid, though.

the fact that bill burr himself wrote this episode makes me wanna believe that he and his dad had a conversation similar to this when burr was in a similar situation to kevin, and i honestly think that’s what makes this episode so special in my book.

Bill at one point talked about his parents and he joked about how his parents argued, he mentioned how his mom was"always quiet" i imagine this speech is made from somewhere inside and thats how he performs so well in this scene
There's an episode of Bob, The Devil, and God where at the end, God says the following to Bob: "Picture this long line of fathers and sons stretching from Adam all the way down to Andy, and they're all passing on this punch, from one generation to another, father to son, and the trick is to pass on a softer punch. Your father passed on a softer punch." I think Frank is passing on a softer punch, compared to his father at least.

He actually cares about his kids and wants them to be successful, and thinks that being extremely harsh and intimidating is the way to do it. Well-meaning, but very unhealthy. Frank's dad.... the guy sounds like a monster. It takes a special kind of sadist to go out of your way to hurt your own child like that.
