Sad but heartwarming fact: Natasha Richardson's son mentioned once he watches this movie whenever he misses her, because it's the film where the character she plays is the most true to how she was in real life.
I lost my mom in an accident around the same age he was when his mother died. She was very much the same way. Wish I had any one of the hundreds of home movies she took when we were kids but my father lost them all.
Watching this back it reminds me of the scene from The Favourite where Olivia Colman’s characters tells the boy to look at her then scolds him for looking at her.
agree he was a fun character and was such a nice person I really liked when she said he was more like a butler more like a brother and as a friend he was really nice about it
His relationship with his employers, though, makes me uncomfortable, and the same goes for that other woman. Professional and private lives should remain separate.
The funny thing is that they are out there. But if you look at the teen movies they are ALWAYS overlooked in favour of the worthless hunk. I just don't understand this.
We lost a lot more than we knew when Natasha Richardson died. I'd never seen the remake of "Parent Trap" and she really is funny. How I'd love to have seen her do "Private Lives."
While I like Natasha Richardson, Maureen O’ Hara was definitely great too. And while I like Dennis Quaid Brian Keith was better as the dad. And I always liked Lohan too but Hayley Mills will always be the girls.
WishfulThinkingArt It was not, actually! :) They kept it in because she was "really into the moment of the scene" (the director's words) so they just went along with it. It's nice to see imperfections sometimes. I think it was cute!

I remember the Brady Bunch where Alice was a housekeeper, a friend, and a member of the family. She went everywhere they went and did everything they did.
My favorite Martin moment was at the beginning when he takes Annie to Camp Walden. At first he comes across like a stereotypical stiff butler. But once Annie thanks him for taking her to camp, he breaks down and hugs her. Right then you knew that they had a great relationship. The fact that her mother and grandfather trusted Martin to take Annie to camp speaks for itself too.
I loved this movie and I love Natasha Richardson in it!! She was absolutely the most perfect choice!! She was one of my favorite actresses and I miss seeing her in the movies and shows on TV!! ❤️🙏 To her family, they must miss her terribly!!
I LOVED her in this movie! God only knows how many times I showed pictures of her to my hairdresser because I wanted that hairstyle and color! Her passing hit me like a ton of bricks. Especially because she was just 1 year younger than me. 😢
bracita15 I did the same thing! I took my DVD of this movie to my hair stylist and asked her to watch it so that we could discuss Natasha Richardson's style at my next appointment. When that time came, my stylist said, "Honey, that is some high maintenance." So we talked about it, and she was worried that the texture of my hair would not work with that style (thick hair, but it's very fine). Plus the color would have involved a multi-step process, and lots of upkeep. So I let it go.
@@vivianpowell1732 I hear ya. I had it done once or twice but it was exactly what your hairdresser said. It was high maintenance. Most of the time I couldn’t keep it up due to poor health - both mine and my bank account. 😆
Martin/actor.....the character and power Martin The Butler portrayed is what we all want in a Butler and more. In my heart and mind he is up there with Alfred and Carson.
Went to a tennis camp with her in the early 1980s in Florida. I remember she was in the dorm next to mine. She was tall, pale with short dark hair. Very soft spoken.
My fave movie of all time. I remember being 14 when she died and it was one of the first (if not the actual first) celebrity deaths that actually made me feel sad. I still get sad about it sometimes when I re-watch the movie.
First time I saw this, I fell in love with Natasha, instantly. Half way through, my wife then tells me that she died from a skiing accident. I was devastated ...
I have a theory that Elizabeth is sisters with Anita Dearly from 101 Dalmatians (partly because, in the live action movie, the role was played by Nathasha's real life sister Joely Richardson), but also because the two characters are oddly similar in personality, and they both work in designing, including work for their respective "Cruella DeVille's". But does the actresses' sisterhood extend to their characters?
Also, the two movies came out two years apart. 101 Dalmatians came out in 1996 and Parent Trip came out in 1998. This theory could be very plausible. I like it.
Actually Elizabeth is the boss of her fashion design company. If you were alluding to the request from her office to come in for a short time, I don't see it as a Cruella DeVil moment. Her staff needed some advice regarding the photo shoot of one of her wedding gowns. It's a fair request since everyone wants the photos to look good, and they weren't asking her to come in for the whole day.
“Grandma-father” 😹😹 sis was going through it. I know it wasn’t on purpose that she said that. But it made sense that they kept it in sorta. She’s frazzled as hell, smoking in the house, sunglasses on inside, possibly had a day drink too. 😭 But I’m glad they kept that in. Finding these mistakes now is more-so funny than it is critical. Hits different watching it as an adult too, than as a kid. Sooo many things are clicking when you innerstand how things are as you grow older.
I like how Martin is less soft to Hallie once he learns she's not Annie. He's not unkind to her at all, just a little more blunt. It kind of shows how close he and Annie were, and how just because Hallie looks like her doesn't mean she has the same kind of friendship.
@@LisaKoffler seeing as how Liz was smoking a cigarette on her way to work after her daughter came home from camp proves she never fully kicked the habit!
