"I can fix it." Sam was so smooth, he exudes charisma. I've always loved Dule Hill, and it broke my heart when Sam and Mary Lou were lynched. They'd likely never depict such a mature topic in a modern Disney kids' film.

A common criticism of the movie is that Stanley was overweight in the book and lost the weight by the end of the story. Shia LaBeouf wanted to put on the extra weight, but Louis Sachar (the author of Holes) and the director told LaBeouf to focus on Stanley's personality instead of his appearance.
It's nice to know that at least a few people were looking out for child actors back then 😊

There's actually only one significant difference between the book and movie:
In the book, Stanley was overweight, and being sent to the camp made him lose all of it to where he was super skinny.
They chose not to do this because forcing Shia LaBeouf to lose all that weight on the quick schedule they were on would've caused significant damage to his adolescent body.

You know I think the luckiest thing was having Hector and Stanley meet even though how they met was awful.
Their bond helped break the curse and now they can be brothers and a family. And it weren’t for stanley’s social worker, Hector wouldn’t have gotten out of the camp. And this helped save everyone too once she discovered every adult’s illegal activities there.
Not only that, if hector and stanley weren’t there, they wouldn’t find the treasure and Stanley carrying Hector up the mountain provided the good luck to find the treasure which allowed Hector to hire investigators to find his mom.
None of this would have happened if the events didn’t occur.

The lizards that portray the Yellow Spotted Lizard in the movie were actually Bearded Dragons which are non-venomous and all of these lizards wore a non-toxic yellow paint on their backs to give the appearance of these venomous lizards from the book.
Although the Yellow Spotted lizards are fictional, their are some venomous lizards living today, but the only venomous lizards consist of the Monitor and Komodo Dragons and especially the Beaded Lizards which live in the southwestern United States and Mexico, those species consist of the well-known Gila Monster and the Mexican Bearded Lizard.🦎🦎

The curse on Stanley’s family broke. I interpreted the rain finally coming to camp to mean Sam’s spirit was finally at rest because there was finally comeuppance for the Walker family.
I think one could argue Lou Walker is actually sympathetic. She was forced to dig by her grandfather, as a child, even on Christmas, and she clearly didn’t care enough about the treasure to want to keep going. I bet she kept up the effort after Trout died just so her childhood wasn’t crappy with no payoff, figuratively and literally.
•But then she utilized child labor herself! For a while! With poor conditions, while hoarding better ones for herself. And she quite likely contemplated child murder. And she may have inherited some Walker racism, with saying Stanley couldn’t teach Hector to read anymore. Who knows what other sketchy stuff was going on? So she can rot in jail 😂

      2. Kate's treasure and the Walker family, cursed to dig for a hundred years and never find it. Broken when the treasure is found in a way that the Walker family can't touch it.
      3. Green Lake and surroundings, cursed by the murder of Sam, broken when the Walker family finally loses control of the land. As soon as the man says the camp will be taken away, it starts to rain.

i think the reason it was always the same group of boys is because, like an actual camp, they were split up into different groups: "mom" was their leader, with the group having stanley, zero, armpit, etc. the other boys sleep in the same "tent" they are just in different sections, with their leaders not getting much if any screen time
if i remember correctly they touch more on that properly in the book than they do the movie.

It’s so surreal this was literally a Disney movie cause when I saw the commercials and the advertisements for this movie 21 years ago they didn’t include nor mention it was from Disney. Of course the trailer/promo VO guy has done a lot of trailer narrations for Disney in the early-mid 2000’s so that was a clear takeaway.
Anyways it’s interesting that it’s been 20 years since the movie came out and it’s easily not only the most underrated Disney film but also one of the best book film adaptations during the 2000’s and love the incredible cast consisting of Shia LaBeouf, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Henry Winkler, Eartha Kitt and Patricia Arquette.
However one thing that kind of bothers me especially from reading the book and watching is why does the Warden including her father and/or grandfather want the treasure thinking it’s "Their Treasure" when literally the chest and treasure belong to Stanley Yelnats IV along with several other people Kissin Kate Barlow stole?!?

I also recently rewatched Anaconda! 😂 first saw this movie in Junior High English class, we also had to read the book (which I didn't do lol). This movie truly was always on on the Disney channel lol and I get the crush thing, I also had a crush on him when I was younger when I used to watch Evens Stevens. Him and Derek from Life With Derek, omg. Now I think about them and I'm like, "ew what was wrong with me?" 🤣 My type is not even close to the same.

      MOTOCROSSED YES OMG
okay so like motocrossed is one of my favorite movies ever
the main character has my first AND middle names, and uses the same nickname i use, and cuts her hair and dresses up as her brother
as an afab nonbinary person this movie was my mulan (for a lot of trans men, mulan does something - for me it was motocrossed)

    • @SkwithOv
      @SkwithOv Месяц назад +1

pretty much nobody i talk to has ever heard of motocrossed and it's sad
i think she's the man overshadows it because they're both based on 12th night and that one is more applicable to a lot of girls (yeah they're both sports, and girls can and are interested in any and all sports, but soccer is much more popular than motocross AND it has the fun girl drama that motocrossed doesn't really have much of) and has more famous people in it :/
i love she's the man too though, but it doesn't quite have the same connection as the character having the same name as me lol

if i remember right, each group of boys (who slept in the same tent or whatever) were the ones digging holes together
    spread out
the adults went from one group to another to distribute food and water and watch them
that's why they got so much work done after they found the lipstick case and they were digging in the same place - all of the groups of boys were in the same place working rather than spread out
having them all together could be dangerous because they could be more likely to fight or try to hurt the adults, and it's harder to coordinate large efforts when split into small groups that are the same every day
yeah they could coordinate within the group, but the rest of the boys would have no clue what's going on
and because the adults are going between groups, it's less likely any will be unobserved - if there's 100 boys together, it's easy to lose track of a couple because there's still 98 boys there
if there's 10 boys, always the same boys in each group, it's easier to keep track and notice when someone's missing - if there's 10 boys, and 2 are gone, then 8 is much more noticable than 98
plus if they're always going around, they could pop up randomly and catch you, where if they're just standing watching over 100 boys, they might not be likely to notice one of them "slacking" or doing something he shouldn't be because there's so many to watch
i feel like there could have been other adults that we didn't see, the bus driver we saw, but were there any adults in the cafeteria? mom was in charge of the one tent but were their others for the other groups? i don't remember 😅 it's been a couple years
and that's just my understanding anyway, but i could be wrong
