I totally agree! Platonic love is so underrated- I never understand when people turn a platonic relationship romantic in fanfics or ‘headcanons’ (because they feel the need to project their own identity onto them for some reason?) when friendship is so much purer and usually, for most people, truer and more enduring. This movie fueled my love of mermaids, even more than The Little Mermaid did. I REALLY love the trio of Sara Paxton, Emma Roberts and Joanna "JoJo" Levesque, and the tails Sara wore are GORGEOUS
THIS was made for the Disney ass kid that I am. Lowkey it's another modern adaptation of The Little Mermaid, but more emphasis on the friendship, which I'm so for it. Side note; sad thing about JoJo is that her label fucked her over and basically derailed her music career. She could've been a famous actress tho but I don't think that where her passion truly lies. At least, we got this gem.
aquamarine will always be THAT girl. it definitely stood the test of time edit: no because i also rewatched it recently and was GAGGED that they were 13 because my whole life i thought there were like 16-17
"Can you make boobs come out of hiding?" On the scene selected commentary track by the three lead actors Sara Paxton said "It's okay Emma's grown since then!" I laughed so hard I hurt my throat!🤣
"She's like trying to flirt with them!" Reminds me of Trin Lovell's video on this where in this scene she said "Why was she so flirty? She was so flirty, fun, and fit! (chuckled)"
I rewatch this movie every year like clockwork!! It truly is amazing and I’m so happy I got to see it as a kid. It fostered my love for the ocean, mermaids, and just being a girl. Something I really comment this movie for is Raymond. He could have been this really douchey guy or super vapid but he’s really just kind. He understands Claire and Haley like him and doesn’t crush their crush or play into it. He’s respectful. And it’s so nice to see when I was young and now!! my best friend and i LOVE this movie. We used to watch it so often and would even pretend to be her when we played mermaids. We also tried (and epically failed) to recreate her shirt dress creations. One of our iconic sleepover movies along with the Lizzie McGuire movie and LOL. And we loved Sara Paxton and Jojo! I was so happy to see Jojo make her comeback a few years ago.
I absolutely LOVED this movie!! The fact that it was more of a girls girl movie than a romance movie… ugh. My favorite!! Fueled my obsession with mermaids
If you didn't know, Jojo got caught up in a decade long legal battle with her label. But she's been making music again for years and she is absolutely still killing the game. You have to listen to Good to Know and Try Not to Think About It
