- In this video I discuss two ways I recently broke my Toyota Tacoma OEM Tonneau Cover. Save yourself the disappointment and/or expense and don't do what I did! In the video I fix one of the issues.

You're lucky you just cracked it. I loaded my son's mountain bike on the bed and just flipped the last panel over. It flipped shut while I was on the freeway. The end of the handlebar went right through. There's a good sized hole on the panel. I tried patching it with a piece of black plastic and one of those supposedly super high strength glues but it came off after a few days. I'm going to try it again with a better glue unless I can figure out a better fix.
If you decide to get a new cover I highly recommend the Diamondback SE. It will give you a little more room when closed and is much more secure when locked.
Agreed, but it's pretty dear at over $2000 in Canada.
Man thanks for the heads up..sorry for the dilemmas..man sounds like a few bad luck streaks haha
My Tonneau cover has a different problem I’m trying to fix (broken latch) but I also have to carefully position my road bike to close the cover, now I know what to look out for thanks! (Also made the mistake - once - of driving on the highway with the cover partially open! )
So it was possible to have a bike mounted on a fork mount with the tonneau cover closed? How does your setup look if you don’t mind answering.
Very durable but you have to be delicate with it? I have been looking for one for my 2017 short bed Tacoma, I don't think they are worth the money.
Dam that sucks. I did almost the same thing slamming it down. Seal it with an epoxy like JB weld clear weld. Seal open Crack then place weights around the Crack to hold it down while it dries. That should keep moisture out. Worked for me!
For the life of me, why does toyota use carbon steel bolts to supports the bed to the chasis instead of an inexpensive 304 stainless steel material? I have had my tacoma since 2005, and I would like to replace them, any suggestions?
Thanks for sharing, Amigo.
Nice bike!
Urathane to fill the crack and glue it back down to the crossmember. Or Marine Goop from home depot.
Totally unrelated to this video, but I'm curious why you aren't on your brother James's videos. I apologize if my question is inappropriate. I have an older brother, but we don't hang out much. Curious what your relationship is like with James. He could really help you with exposure indirectly just by you being in his videos occasionally. You see this happen with the people in Daily Driven Exotics channel.
Flex seal might work!
I did the exact same mistake. I'm trying to figure out if I can buy a new piece in the back. Do you have any suggestions?
I had to jump up on my oem cover the other day, it was pouring rain and the awesome 3red brake light up top was leaking crazy amounts of water into the cabin, so I had to climb up and duct tape all around the light to stop the leak temporarily. I dont think I damaged the cover, it's still working
I don’t know if u fix it or not but there’s a recall on that
Toyota fix mine for free
@@israelperez5509 Back then Toyota said it was TSB, and not a recall so they wouldn't do it for free. Luckily the dealership I bought the truck had a 60 or 90 day free fix of any issues. I just hope nothing else was damaged by the water coming in, but so far so good.
Might be able to fix that with some ramen noodles.
Are you siblings with Stradman?
Nice TRD Off Road Mike, I’m getting this same tonneau cover on my 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro and I’m curious as to how water tight it is?
Mine has been completely water tight but I've got a friend with one as well and he said water gets in on occasion. Sorry, not that helpful...
I've got one that my '20 came with. It's VERY water resistant, but I've noticed that if I go to the car wash, a little bit will get in. Not too bad though. Definitely not water tight like the cab but definitely helps!
I would buy it if you decide to sell it.
I just did the same thing with a bike yesterday under the same circumstances. Only difference was that it was a mountain bike and it went clear through the cover. I also didn't realize how flimsy it was. I ordered a new panel for $260.
Sorry to hear that!
I just broke my rear panel with a bike. Wonder you order the "rear" panel ? Is there any installment kit, bolt come along or you reused the old kit?
Where did you get the panel from ?
Where did you get a new panel from
@@ssboxer456 Toyota dealer
Maybe you can order just the OEM panel from Toyota since it has the Tacoma lettering.
Sandlapper it’s nearly impossible to order accessories for these trucks through Toyota, unless you got it stock the probably can’t get it yet. That’s what my dealership says
Same one i have but my goodness these covers are so very heavy..they weigh bout 80lbs i also have the oem rubber bed mat thats another 30lbs 110lbs so it definetly has a bearing on gas milage.
Old Timer bummer man, I got the roll up and absolutely love it, light weight too! I’m currently getting up 20.5 MPG in my 2008 TRD off-road and 19MPG on the low end when I drive heavy.
Old Timer what taco you got? How’s the mileage,?
@@redpilledpatriot8484 I got the 2017 trd offroad 4x2 sb 3.5 six cylinder, I talked to service dept today he said you can lose little bit but like he said without the cover to I would have wind going into the bed that would also cause getting little less milage & power makes sense..
Another issue I been researching is the ticking & clanking sounds in the engine but many people from 2016 on up 2018 have same issue so not too worried right now being I got great warranty on the truck, I maybe selling this trk less than a year get the 4x4 offroad model.
@@redpilledpatriot8484 , good deal you got..I may just leave my cover off put it on when I really need to use it, like I say I maybe trading my truck in less than a year really thinking abour the 4x4 trd offroad the thing I am trying to find out is if the 2018 & 2019 models if the entire safety sensor can be shut off? I dont like the idea that if someone in front slows down then it would slow down the tacoma dont like any vehicle in front of me controllng my vehicle.
Old Timer yeah, you could always drive with the tailgate down :P I still recommend a roll up personally. The new gen 3 is an awesome truck and I’ve heard if you take it easy on the gas pedal people have claimed to get 25 MPG highway which isn’t bad at all, it should definitely do a little better than 2nd gen mpg but I got my 2008 Trd offf road last year with only 73.000 miles on it, super clean, good frame for $15.000.00 , I was very happy with that deal :)
Hello Mike i got Tacoma 2020 and the last part (the one on top of the gate) have to much free play how can i adjust tht?? Thank you.
Hmm thats odd. My best recommendation would be to remove the whole cover and reinstall it to see if its crooked. There may be something defective if that doesn't help. I've never had any similar issue.
yes
I punched a hole on mine, if anyone know where I can get the same panel he damage let me know I'm so mad 😡
Seems like most of your problems are with the bike in the back. Probably should just use the bike rack.
Should have a 3 years warranty
I think since its due to my own neglect it wouldn't be covered under warranty
Your very First mistake was, getting a Toyota ! Nissan is the way to go !
I have a feeling there will be a few others watching this video that may have a difference of opinion :-)
Nissan? What a joke! … kidding. They are both great trucks… in the long run if you want best resale value Toyota will win.
