Give your Tacoma’s bed the best all-weather protection with the BAK Industries BAKFlip MX4 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover. This all-aluminum tonneau cover is engineered to keep your bed and all its contents protected against rain, snow, and dirt, all while maintaining easy-to-use characteristics. This tonneau cover is also designed to be inaccessible without unlocking the tailgate, simplifying its security. Lastly, this cover seats flush to your bed rails providing your bed with a sleek, low-profile look.
The BAK Industries BAKFlip MX4 Tonneau Cover is a tri-fold, three panel style tonneau cover. This design enables you partially or completely open the tonneau to access the truck bed. When opened, this tonneau utilizes two methods to secure the cover, namely an integrated buckle-lock system, and two prop rods.
The BAK Industries BAKFlip MX4 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover is crafted from aircraft-grade aluminum. Its tonneau panels feature outer aluminum sheets and an inner core made from premium EPS foam. This results in a tonneau cover that’s capable of supporting 400 pounds, while remaining easy to open and close. Lastly, this tonneau is finished in a UV-resistant matte-black powder coat for a bold look and added durability.
The BAK Industries BAKFlip MX4 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover comes with all the necessary hardware for a hassle-free installation. Installation is largely a one-man job that can be completed in about an hour, and less if you have a helping hand. Please note that minor drilling may be needed to provide the included drain hose with an exit point.
The BAK Industries BAKFlip MX4 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover is backed by a 3-year limited warranty covering manufacturing and material defects. Please visit the manufacturer’s website for more details. terrain.jp/2z5...

The whole reason I watched this was to watch the complete drain hose install
Great install video!! I just put my Bakflip MX4 on my 2021 Tacoma TRD. The instructions that come in the box are horrible and misleading. The instructions on their website are a lot better but this video is by far the best.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching, Darrell! We appreciate it! -Zach
Your bakflip is a 100% waterproof
Excellent explanation. So much better than reading the instructions!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching! -Zach
This was a great instruction video. I just put mine on today and your video was perfect. Took about 35 min in my driveway. Good stuff.
Thanks for this video. Used it in place of the instructions that come with the cover. Made life a lot easier
We're happy it helped out! Thanks for watching! -Zach
Hell yeah bro this video just helped me feel confident about putting this bed cover on my 22 Tacoma TRD 4x4 6 speed manual. I bought it off of OfferUp at 8:30 p.m. on the other side of town drove home had it installed by 11:00 p.m.
Woooo! Glad we could help!!
Did you use the same bracket clamps that he did? I cannot find those clamps (brackets
A BIG THANKS, I ordered the same thing from Real Truck, shipment was great and timely, BUT, they included the WRONG instructions and a lady on the phone was absolutely NO help. Thanks again, great video
No problem 👍 Thanks for watching!!
Thank you I just finished installing mine and I used this video!
Thanks for watching! -Zach
Just breezes through the back bed rail removal and reinstall. You owe me 15 mins of life
Thank You! Most helpful and never had to reference the instructions. Looks great!
Thanks for watching, Randi! We appreciate it! -Zach
Plan to use this video to install mine today.
Hope it helped! Thanks for watching! -Zach
100% waterproof
It looks like it will let in water from the rear where the door is... why didn't they make it a little longer???
Whatever you do, *BE CAREFUL* if you drill through the bottom of your bed for the drainage!! I nicked my fuel intake filler neck and leaked gas all over the place next time I went to fill up 😞. Luckily it only set me back $600 but could've resulted in safety issues. I feel pretty dumb/lucky in hindsight, but please exercise caution if you try to DIY. FWIW the dealership admitted this happens to them on a regular basis when they install tonneau covers; nice knowing it's not just me.
Damn bro that freaking sucks!
I live in Phoenix not too worried about water more worried about tweakers 😂
So what keeps water from leaking in with the giant gaps that were cut out of the plastic moulding covering the top of each side of the bed where the "mounting posts" are? Trying to install this for a neighbor on a 2016 that has/had the factory tonneau cover and there no chance of a water tight seal. :(
Wondering the same!
Dumb question unrelated to the cover…what is that blue called? Tryin to match hues of blue for some custom decals…Heritage Blue, and Voodoo blue and whatever that blue is…Blue Crush Metallic? Toyota has a bunch of blues 🫠
What’s the hole drill size for the drain tube? Should be mentioned.
YES!!! WE WANT TO KNOW!!!
Thanks for the informative vid. I have 2017 Tacoma short bed and this looks like what I need for my truck.
Thanks for watching, Rob! We appreciate it! -Zach
Great video and very helpful . I'm installing mine on a 2022 Tacoma Sport this weekend . Thx
Thanks for watching! -Zach
If you have a cargo devider it becomes useless because rail us on bottom
How do I get the clamps that you are using?
8:03
They can't see what you have in the bed? Im happy with my tyger tonneau tri fold cover for $180. Kick rocks with that price!
Great advice
Thanks for watching! -Zach
Thank you for the help! Love the videos!(:
Thanks for watching, Zach! We appreciate it! -Zach
What's to stop someone from sticking a flat bar in there and using that convenient strap to unlock the cover?
I noticed that on all these covers, you don't need a bar... just a coat hanger. The stock Toyota one has a handle for unlocking, but lacks security on the front bolt.
This video will save you frustration, heartache and time. Throw away the printed installation instructions, they are worthless. You will have your cover installed in well under an hour. Have fun!
Thanks for watching and the kind words! -Zach
How did you drill your drain holes in the truck bed?
Why the original bed rails cannot be installed on the angle brackets with longer bolts?.
If Bak Industries had a twist knob on their MX4 cover, I would have bought one... I'm not a fan of plastic rivets either with glued on bars, but really like the design of the MX4... I decided to go with the Extang Xceed instead because of the twist knob that helps with deterring theft.
The Xceed is good, but the vinyl wouldn't hold up for me in the AZ sun.
I also like the button for security, does the Extang relocate the stock rails?
@@ronmurphy4234 No, my stock tie down rails are not messed with at all as the Extang cover is secured by the top of the bed with clamps that come with the cover. Not only that, Extang Exceed uses a turn knob for the very first panel in the rear, so theft is much harder. All the rest of the panels are pull cords, but the very last panel where the tailgate is uses a turn knob. I've never had any problems with the construction at all to date and no leaks, but I did use silicone on the front bulkhead to reduce any possible leakage.
Is repair for Bak bed top adhesive possible ?
Does anybody know where I can buy or order the metal clamps being installed at 7:22? I've looked up metal clamps for BAK mx4 and i haven't seen anything similar to that. I bought it used and its missing those clamps to keep my tacoma rails. Asking for HELP!!!
Did you find those clamps? I have been looking myself
They changed the design of the MX4 for 2019 and now it covers the rail system instead of moving it down.
You just made my day. I bought one a few weeks ago but haven't installed it yet.
I've heard alot of negative reviews about the cover is it really worth the 1 grand
Does this mean you can't use the rail system anymore?
@@JV-zc4kh So...not sure where Martin got his info but at least for the Tacoma version of this you still have to move the rails and they are fully functional. Source: bought one in November and ive spent a few hours with customer support complaining about false information.
@@yezkaholic I like mine though i got it on sale for $700. The sides of it that the latching mechanism attaches to are quite flimsy so I can't just drop it closed like they do in most videos. I have to drop and then push which i guess isn't a big deal. If i could do it over I would probably go a different route just because you have to move the rails which makes it almost impossible to find a bed rack that is compatible.
With the relocation of the factory rails will the factory cargo divider still work with the lowered rails?
Any tips to get more waterproof? Mine leaks and i get water in the truck bed... i mean, is not tons of water but say is parked or in motion while raining, i would get about 10% water leaked and not safe to leave stuff in the truck bed that needs to be dry because it will get wet if directly touching the truckbed. Any tips to avoid that?
@giibo1287 yes, return it. A lot of negative reviews on the whole bakflip line
Will this tonneau cover work with the body armor 4x4 overland bed rack?
Does this work for a 2022 TRD Off-road?
New to truck ownership. Loving my TRD Sport. To install the BakFlip MX4 do I HAVE to remove the bed rails first?
@Wild Warg Thanks for the reply…I eventually figured it out and have had it on for about 2 years now. It’s the best.
This fit the 2020 trd off road 5ft bed?
Yes, I have one on my 2020 TRD Pro and it’s great.
Thanks alot ! Video was great and it helped!
Thanks for watching, Marko! We appreciate it! -Zach
Just got mine in the mail, i didn't see an install of the bulkhead seal on here. Was that an accidental omission or just leaving it out of your installs?
In the brief scenes when he his up by the bulkhead, I don't see it on there, just the stock bulkhead with the side seals. I think they didn't. Did you ever find out?? Bout to install mine
Mine didn’t come with those little square things that go at the end of the square bar. Is it suppose to help moisture seal. If so what are they called so I can order them.

if you need tonneau cover pls contact us if you have a brand!
Anyone having issues with it so far ?
So I've gotta ask, if this hard cover is in the range of $1000+ why not look at a Diamondback Plate cover instead?
Diamondback definitely worth it if you have the money even the SE is still $1600 i just ordered a mx4 but down the road going to get the diamondback hd
No full bed access without taking the diamondback completely off. Dealbreaker for me.
@@redshift2026 Yeah that's fair. Its about a 15 minute process to take my SE off and 25 to put it on. I store all kinds of stuff in it that I'd never store under another cover though.
How much it’s cost?
$$1050
i want bed cover for tacoma 2019 5 foot bed without taking my rails out that comes with it any ?
It just relocates the rails. Watch the video...
@@flounder totally agreed , I just got this cover too.
@@flounder They changed the design of the MX4 for 2019 and now it covers the rail system instead of moving it down.
Martin Steiger so it covers it so you cannot use it? I’m confused a lot of drilling I’d rather not do to my brand new 20 taco.
@@pagodad2036 get a bed mat and route the drain tubes underneath the mat.
good luck with water leaks
The buckle is made of cheap plastic that breaks off easily. not worth the money paid.
These covers will last two years. The deck material is OSB (or similar) with aluminum sheet bonded to each side. The hardware for the latches is RIVETED to the deck material. Eventually, water finds it's way into the deck panels. Then they get very heavy and the latch bars start falling off. So, that's what? $600 per year? Good luck!
That’s a stupid comment. My friend has one for more than four years and it’s nothing at all as you said. ✊🏻
Okay, it comes with a 5-year warranty. So if it falls apart after 2, I'll have a new one, won't I?... Genious!
@@carlosmoreno7732 Yea, my neighbor has had his almost 4-years and it looks and works like new...
I’ve had mine for 10 years
My god whatever you do stay away from this brand for a Tacoma...that square seal on the ends of the front rail might as well be a screen door...it does not work. I understand these are not submarines but the leaks can be measured by gallons per minute. VERY unhappy with my Bakflip and ABSOLUTELY FORGET THE POOR EXCUSE BAKFLIP HAS FOR CUSTOMER NON-SERVICE. At best I now have a trunk...installed twice by recommended installers linked to their website...HORRIBLE!!!
Max I was thinking I’ll stick with the trusted access soft roll up tonneau but I’m finding it may require modifications as well. Have a brand new taco and want to get something but every single fricken tonneau has a negative somewhere.
Not to mention almost 1k for a cover that will leak some is ridiculous!!!
